“This is NABO’s year of Transformation”
The Board of Directors of the National Association of Barbados Organizations
(NABO) met in Melbourne, Florida for their Annual Board of Directors’ Meeting and
the 2010 election of the Executive Board. The nominees who were elected are as
follows:
Janice Bispham - Chairperson
Sheena Aimey-Petrolito - Vice Chair
Marcia Smith - Secretary
John Ellis - Treasurer
Julia Hollingsworth-Brown - Public Relations Officer
Earl Ashby - Immediate Past Chairman
Erskine Jones - Regional Director - North
Anthia Benn-Buncome - Regional Director - South
Janice Greenidge - Regional Director – West
The meeting was refreshing and informative. The goal for NABO stands the same;
that is to be a strong umbrella group for the Barbadian people or any neighboring
country that needs N.A.B.O.’S support. At the meeting, the Diplomatic Corps
discussed the earthquake in Haiti and the plans to develop an avenue to manage
funds donated to help Haiti in its time of need.
NABO’s newly, elected Executive has a motto, “This is the year for transformation.”
Meaning that the NABO will move forward in unity, and cooperation, with the Board
of Directors and the Executive members collectively charting the course of the
organization. The goals for NABO are set high and will continue to rise higher as the
months roll by. The Executive Members know that the course will not be easy, but
they will work relentlessly, to keep the name and credibility of NABO strong and
transparent.
The newly elected, Executive Board or as we are calling ourselves “Team
Transformation,” would like to thank all of the individuals who continue to support
NABO. We also appreciate the advice from the members of the Diplomatic Corps,
Consul General Colin Mayers, Minister Consul David Bubulia and Deputy Consul
General Philip St. Hill, their suggestions were well accepted by the Board of
Directors.
As NABO transforms, we will continue to bring you the conferences that the
members have stated they still want to have every Summer. The first NABO
Summer Conference, of this new decade, will be in Philadelphia from July 2 – 5,
2010. The 2010 Summer Conference will include a variety of workshops and
educational ventures, dealing with managing non-profits and financial management.
In conclusion, NABO’s first, female chairperson, Ms. Janice Bispham, wrote: “I am
humbled by my election to the position of Chairperson of N.A.B.O. This is not taken
lightly, because I am fully aware of the responsibility of steering this ship, as dictated
by the Constitution & By-laws. I assure you, that your input is needed, as we all
must take responsibility for our collective decisions.

All members of the Board of Directors will be expected to be active participants,

because it takes a full crew to take the ship to sea and bring it home safely. As I
stated at the Board Meeting this past weekend, our President Barack Obama called
for change, but if you change something, it can revert to its original state. I am
calling for a transformation; because once something is transformed it cannot return
to its original form. Together and with positive and productive thinking, we can
transform this organization that hopefully all of us believe in.”

The Board of Directors will continue to uphold this organization and has vowed to
work harder to realize the dreams of the founders, to higher levels, then they
imagined. Building a foundation so strong that it will withstand any challenges it may
face; propelling NABO to a brighter and meaningful future.
