B.N. Calara Elementary School Math and Makabayan Camp


February 8-9, 2013
I. Rationale
Pupils from indigent families contribute to a significant percentage in the Philippine
population. Because of being indigent, the quality of education and health of the children
are not the same as to those who are in the middle class. Since most of these kids enter
school at a late age because of financial inadequacy, they lag behind academics: they
are in a grade level which is lower than what should be given their current age.
Undernourishment is another factor that stands in the way of their studies.

II. Goals
This camp aims to equip the students of B.N. Calara Elementary School about:
The Philippines: History, Geography and Arts
Basic Mathematics
The Fundamentals of the Computer
How to work in a team and as a team
Moral Recovery
III. Activity Design
A. The four running threads of the training program are:
Teamwork
Presence of Mind
Doing what is right
Having fun!
B. The camp has three themes, namely:

Kababayan, Maki-alam!: A Filipino citizen must be equipped with enough


knowledge in the Philippine history, geography and arts.

Mata at isipan, ating buksan: Having a strong presence of mind and the
urge to do what is right are major factors for a camp to be effective for an
individual. Those factors are going to be covered by this theme.

Magsama-sama at Magtulungan: Focuses on knowing oneself and others


capabilities, thus further understanding the value of teamwork and how
effectively it can be done.
