Overview
New Utilities
The new PDF2PS 2.0 utility enables you to convert PDF files (including
PDF files with embedded CID fonts) to PostScript 3 files that can be RIPed
correctly in PS/M. The most significant feature of PSF2PS 2.0 is the correct
handling of PDF 1.4 files, including files with transparencies (PDF
Transparency Flattener to PS3 file).
PDF2PS 2.0 and the PDF2PS version 2.0 Application Note are available on
the Creo PS/ 7.1 CR-ROM in the Creo Utilities folder.
Configuration Requirements
General
best performance
Note: iMac and Cube, which do not contain PCI card expansion slots
required for either the VLSI or the TSP card, do not support Expose.
MB recommended)
For CopyDot files, the CT Quality option, and the new Bicubic Smooth
Scale option, it is recommended that you use at least 110 MB in the
PPCRipE application. The Macintosh should have a minimum of
256 MB memory.
Specific files may need a further increase of RAM in PPCRipE. If a
CopyDot file fails during RIP, you need to increase the virtual memory
of the Macintosh in the Control Panel -> Memory and then allocate
more RAM to the PPCRipE application (see Memory Allocation on
page 50).
After you complete the memory allocation process, restart the
computer and perform RIP again.
The HASP4 USB software access key supplied with PressTouch 1.1.3
and PressTouch 1.2 can be used for PS/M 7.1 FAF. PS/M 7.1 supports
the previous software access key as well.
Note: It is recommend to use only compressed TIFF bitmaps (such as LZW and
G4), and not to use decompressed TIFF bitmaps.
LZW compression is recommended for good Expose performance.

New Features
New Features
PDF2Go
PDF2Go converts post-RIP files to PDF. The generated PDF files are 100%
rasterized, whereas the raster data is encapsulated in PDF objects.
Converting a multi-page Job generates a multi-page PDF file.
Note: PDF2Go requires a RIP software access key and password.
Lossless output to any output device: The file follows the entire PS/M
process (RIPing, trapping, and so on) until ready for output. However,
instead of being output locally, the file is compressed according to the
specific requirements of the output device and a PDF file is created
from the raster file.
insert annotations, and send the compressed file to the client, who can
then review the file on-screen and print it to any local printer (blackand-white or color). On-screen, the LW is displayed in 100% lossless
quality, while the quality of the printer output is as high as that
supported by the printer.
First-Time Access
PS/M 7.1 includes a free fully-operational PDF2Go demo version that is
valid for 35 days. The first time you access PDF2Go, you are prompted to
indicate whether you are working with a demo version or a licensed
version.
To access PDF2Go for the first time:
1.
In the Select window, click the Output tab. The Output dialog box
appears.

2.
3.
After you select Demo version, click OK. The following message
appears.
2.
Note: A message in this dialog box informs you that this is a demo version that
expires in XX days.
10
3.
After 35 days, your free demo expires and the following message appears.
Every time you access PDF2Go, the system verifies the existence of the
password and the RIP software access key for PDF2Go.
If the password is missing, a Please enter password message appears.
Type your password and click OK.
If the software access key is missing, the following message appears.
Cannot find the software access key. Please check the
connection. Make sure that the software access key is connected and
click OK.
New Features

PDF2Go Parameters
PDF2Go features sets of predefined settings (ScreenOptimized,
PrintOptimized and PressOptimized, in the Job Options box) and also
allows you to set your own custom settings via the PDF2Go General,
Compression, Advanced, and Security tabs.
You can apply various parameters, according to the required destination or
purpose of the output PDF. For example, a low-resolution PDF file is
sufficient for remote content proofing, while high-resolution output is
required for color proofing.
To access PDF2Go parameters:
1.
In the Select window, click the Output tab. The Output dialog box
appears.
12
2.
Select the PDF2Go box and click Set. The PDF2Go window appears.
Predefined Settings
Note: All predefined settings generate PDF files that are compatible with
Acrobat 4.x (PDF 1.3).
This option is recommended for files that are displayed on the Internet
or an intranet, or distributed through an e-mail system for on-screen
viewing.

The General tab enables you to specify file and destination settings,
including Acrobat compatibility levels.
Compatibility
For details on the differences between Acrobat 3.0 and Acrobat 4.x, see the
Adobe Acrobat documentation.
New Features
17
Encoding
PDF files are portable across diverse hardware and operating systems. To
generate binary or ASCII-encoded data, select one of the following:
since it creates a smaller file. This option is useful if you intend to use
FTP to transfer the file, to avoid conversion of line feeds to carriage
returns or vice versa. This is the default option.
ASCII: Creates the PDF file in ASCII text format. This option is useful if
you intend to open the file in a text editor (to view or edit) or if you
intend to send it across networks or mail gateways that do not support
binary files.
Generate Thumbnails
This option creates a thumbnail preview for each page in the PDF file.
Note: The Generate Thumbnails option is cleared by default.
In the PDF File Name box, you specify an output name for the PDF file that
you are creating. (You can use up to 26 characters for the name.)
Note: If you do not type a PDF File Name, the output PDF file receives the name
of the item processed (without its original extension). PS/M automatically adds
the .pdf extension to the file name.
The PDF File Path line shows the path to where the PDF is created. If the
path is too long, you can see only part of the path. To see the full path, hold
the pointer over the box until the full path appears in a popup box.
18
Note: To change the path, from the SetUp menu, select PDF2Go Output
Folder. As with all other Output folders, when this option is selected, a PDF2Go
browser dialog box appears and you select the required Output folder.
Compression Tab
PDF2Go creates 100% raster-based PDF files that are predictable and
portable, despite their data-heavy nature. The Compression tab enables
you to compress LW and CT layers independently, using industry standard
lossy and lossless compression algorithms.

New Features
27
PDF2Go files are editable using the powerful PDF-editing tools of external
applications, such as Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Photoshop.
Note: It is recommend to use Acrobat 4.x or higher, since it supports PDF 1.3
(PostScript 3).
Important: Since the generated PDF files are created from rasterized jobs,
some editing functions normally available to native PDFs are not available (such
as live text editing).
Editing LW Elements
You can modify the color of line-art and text object elements using Adobe
Acrobat 4.x with various plug-in tools (such as Enfocus PitStop 4.x). You
can also add new line-art objects and text to the LW layer.
Note: Enfocus PitStop also allows advanced editing of pre-RIP PDF documents
(such as PDFs not generated by PDF2Go). This includes creating and editing
line-art (paths, anchor points, direction points, colors) and raster-object
manipulation (rotation, scaling, moving, shearing, masking, layering and more).
Editing CT Elements
Since the CT image is not banded, you can use Photoshop (which opens
from within Acrobat) to edit the whole image and not just one strip at a
time.
Preview
PDF2Go uses Acrobat Overprint to represent the transparencies between
the CT and LW layers. Since Acrobat 4.x does not show Overprint
correctly, the output PDF2Go files are not displayed correctly in Acrobat
4.x. However, the files are displayed correctly in Acrobat 5.x.
To display the files properly, in Acrobat 5.x, from the View menu,
select Overprint Preview.

Custom CRDs
PS/M 7.1 enables you to use user-defined CRDs.
Note: This option is recommended for users with a strong background in color
management.
In order to use a custom CRD, the CRD must exist in the PS/M application
folder under Components -> CustomCRD. In addition, the custom CRD
must have a specific structure.
To give a custom CRD the required specific structure:
1.
To format the required CRD, open it in an editor and check for the
following:
a.
b.
In the Preferences window, click the RIP tab. The Rip dialog box

Combine (resolution)
PS/M 7.1 supports a resolution of 1 to 36 dpm.
Dolev 4press V2
This version supports Expose on Dolev 4press V2.
Note: The device appears as 4press V in the dialog box.
Deletion Policy
In previous PS/M versions, you could automatically delete job files
following the RIP and Expose operations. PS/M 7.1 enables you to delete
job files following the Copy operation as well. This means that if you copy
a RIPed job to another location, the original job is deleted and only the
copy of the job is saved.
To define the deletion policy:
1.
From the Setup menu, select Preferences. The Preferences dialog box
appears.
2.
On the General tab, select Delete output file after sending to delete
the jobs after RIP and Expose operations and after a successful Copy
operation.
48
If Disable Kanji CID is selected, you can use OCF fonts only.
If Disable Kanji CID is cleared, you can use either CID or OCF fonts.
For more information about PDF2PS, refer to the PDF2PS Application Note
available in the Creo Utilities folder of the Creo PS/M 7.1 CD-ROM.
Before installing CID fonts, in the Choose Font Folder dialog box,
select Kanji and click Remove.
Move the OCF fonts to another location, install CID fonts, and return
the OCF fonts.

Memory Allocation
Japanese files usually contain many pictures. Therefore, they are usually
large, so you must allocate more memory to PPCRipE and PPCCTResolve in
the Components folder.
The recommended memory allocation is 100-150 MB for PPCRipE and
PPCCTResolve.

Known Bugs
General
1-bit TIFF files originating from Founder that have a generic icon on
the Macintosh cause PS/M to crash during Preview.
CT Quality fails with files that contain more than 22 spot colors.
RIP
When a file is printed via Helios 2.5, Server, Synapse Spot Color XT
(formerly QuarkXPress SpotXT) is ignored.
Expose
Step-and-repeat with a positive gap value, using the Once option for
labels, exposes as Per Copy.
When changes are made to spot colors, the Blue Line dialog box does
not update correctly.
Changing the Minimum Film Feed in the Punch window has no effect
on the film.

Limitations
Naming Conventions
A PDF file with a spot color(s) RIPed via a Hot Folder with the All To
Spot option selected, does not RIP correctly. It RIPs all colors to
process colors (All To Process).
Pre-separated PDF files that include spot colors do not RIP correctly.
The spot color separations do not get the correct color equivalence.
RIP
Workaround: RIP a PDF file with Spot CT by exporting the PDF file
back to PostScript using Acrobat, or use PDF2PS (supplied in the
Creo PS/M 7.1 CD-ROM).
Limitations
59
In QuarkXPress version 4.1, the Omit TIFF & EPS option does not work
with Synapse Print XT (formerly APR Print XT).
DCS2 with spots cannot be RIPed using All to Process. The CT is blank
after RIP.
PS/M does not show the high-resolution images of a DCS2 file in the
PostScript Info dialog box.
60
PS/M does not look further than five hierarchical folders for Hires files.
A Pre-separated PostScript file with EPS JPEG comes out with black
only.
Vector EPS from Illustrator fails if Omit TIFF & EPS is used with
QuarkXPress.
If the high-resolution file is a TIFF file, the clipping path is taken from
its low-resolution file.
The Force Gray option in the Select window does not work properly
during the APR workflow. If this option is applied to a job whose
defined processing parameters include High Resolution Picture
Replacement (Creo APR workflow), only the Black Separation data of
the high-resolution image is processed during RIP.
The All To Process mode does not work properly with files that contain
Duotone mode CTs. The CMYK equivalence values are not identical to
the original file colors.
When an EPS with clipping path is placed over a Duotone CT, RIPed
pre-separated and then Merged and exposed with the Blueline option,
the clipped EPS disappears.
RIP the cropped PDF file in PS/M, ensuring that the SetPage box in
the RIP Preferences dialog box is cleared.
Limitations
61
If a Duotone image has a spot color defined before Black, RIP swaps
the separations when using the Low Resolution workflow.
When merging a pre-separated job with the Delete Input Job option
selected, any other operation that requires the input job (such as
InkPRO or FAF) will not work in the same flow.
FAF on spot text over a black background creates a choke trap instead
of a spread trap.
PS/M is not fully compatible with the Fogra control strip. Some
patterning appears on the strip after RIP.
Output
In the InkPRO application, the highest resolution setting (1440 dpi) of
Output for Improof, is not fully supported.

Passwort.
macOd====c=~W
Benutzt Industrie-Standard-Komprimierungs-Technologien,
insbesondere verlustreiche und verlustfreie Algorithmen. Verschiedene
Kompromierungs-Algorithmen fr die LW- und CT-Schichten sind
erlaubt, die es ermglichen, die PDF-Dateikompromierung
entsprechend der beabsichtigten Anwendung anzupassen.
Entspricht dem Standard PDF/X-1:1999 zu PDF fr DruckvorstufenAnwendungen. ICC-Profil-Kennzeichnung ist fr dieses Format
mglich und stellt damit Farbkonsistenz bei verschiedenen
Plattformen, Gerten und ICC-kompatiblen Anwendungen sicher.
macOd=====^~=W
Lokale oder entfernte Kommunikation zwischen DruckvorstufenExperten: Die PDF-Datei kann zu einer niedrigaufgelsten Datei
komprimiert werden, was Bildschirm-Ansicht zum Proofen und
schnellere, leistungsfhigere Kommunikation ermglicht.
