Initiatives at USAID is a 90-minute course highlighting strategies and ideas for managing

successful advocacy campaigns. Access this full course for free from anywhere with an
internet connection and anytime no matter your time zone.
Launch Course
Course Summary:
Advocacy is the action or process by a person or group to support a particular cause or
policy. Many capacity building programs seek to develop the advocacy knowledge, skills
and experience of individuals and emerging groups. But how do we know that the
capacity building support is empowering the group to push forward their cause? We can
measure what they learned, but how do we know they actually are putting into practice
their new skills?
In this self-paced course, we present tools, resources, and lessons learned on strategies for
improving advocacy skills in your organization, as well as a tool for measuring advocacy
capacity within an organization.
This training, funded by USAIDs Bureau of Policy Planning and Learning (PPL), and
created by TechChange in collaboration with the Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) in
Lebanon, is part of a larger effort to encourage USAID and implementing partners,
specifically project managers, implementers local organizations, and academic
institutions, to think strategically about advocacy and civic activism programming and
share best practices to improve collective activism efforts around the world.

Course Description:
This course is designed to prompt an exploration of common behaviours and attitudes
towards gender differences. It will present facts and figures about the situation of women
and men in our society today and references from key documents that highlight policies
formulated to address gender concerns. Recent events have shown that if governments
are serious about achieving the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, it is essential
that gender be taken into account for all the goals. Gender equality in the MDGs touches
almost exclusively on the area of education, and research does show the importance of
equality in this area, but this is not sufficient. This e-learning course will empower the
participants with tools and sector-specific guidelines for gender mainstreaming in their
various institutions and development planning. It will further improve the abilities of
participants to reduce gender inequalities in their various homes, organisation and
communities.

The course also features a number of exercises and reflective activities designed to
explore basic gender concepts and enhance gender analysis skills, which can be applied
in the formulation of policies, the design of programmes, and the exercise of evaluation.
Benefits:
The overall purpose of the training programme is to enhance the gender-responsive
planning of key institutions and the management skills of their employees, so that they
can more effectively play their part in implementing gender-sensitive development
policies as well as mainstreaming gender in order to achieve the Millennium
Development Goals, MDGs.

Introduction to security sector reform

Training
from UN Institute for Training and Research
Registration deadline: 19 Dec 2014 Training date: 03 Feb 2014 to 19 Dec 2014

0 0 googleplus0 0 reddit0 0

Security sector reform (SSR) is a nationally-owned process aimed at ensuring that

security and justice providers are accountable to the state and its people; deliver effective,
efficient and affordable security and justice services that meet the peoples needs; operate
within a framework of good governance, rule of law, and respect for human rights; and
are legitimate. SSR addresses a number of problems such as the ineffective provision of

security and justice services; the inability of security and justice institutions to deliver
their services equally in response to the needs of all groups of society; the lack or absence
of independent and well-functioning accountability and oversight mechanisms.
The goal of the course is to offer an overview of the concept of SSR, highlight the key
SSR actors and their roles and outline the implementation of SSR programmes.
