Read the letter below carefully and answer the questions that follow.
Dear Arif,
Thank you for writing such an interesting letter. I enjoyed reading it. You
can describe people so well! I have a big family too. I have two brothers and
three sisters. I am not the youngest. I have two younger sisters and one
younger brother. My older brother is nineteen years old.
My grandfather owns four old shophouses along Tuah Street. My
three uncles live in the other houses. My grandfathers are living with my
parents. My uncles want to move to a condominium but my grandfather says,
No! My grandchildren should live here so that they can grow up together.
My mother and aunts agree with him.
In fact, all my cousins are always together through thick and thin.
We study and play together. We are in the same school but in different
classes.
Well, that is enough for today. My cousins have just come over. They
want to play computer games with me. So, bye until the next letter.
With best wishes,
Chong Min

This is only the second week of the year and we are already very busy
in school.
Schools always have many activities during the first term. For the next
three months, we will have training for inter-house games. Next month,
my school is holding a walkathon.
We have the cross-country race towards the end of March. Thats good. I
need more time for training so that I will have the stamina to run eight
kilometres.
We will have a concert to entertain the teachers. Its the same every year.
Thats more interesting. We have to be in our classes even on Teachers
Day. Our headmistress does not allow us to miss any lesson.
We have to study every morning from Monday to Friday, too. The concert
is held from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm.
Well, the bus is stopping at your school gate. You have to get off now. Be
good and study hard.
You too! Well, goodbye. See you next Monday.
Have a nice weekend.

Rawang Hit by Flash Floods
Rawang, Tues. Many areas in Rawang and Kuala Kubu Baru were flooded
after ten hours of heavy rain yesterday. The water level rose at 9.00 am. In most
areas in the town, the water level was three metres high. Traffic came to a
standstill.
Motorists heading towards Rawang were caught in a four-hour traffic
jam. All train services were cancelled. Passengers had to continue their journey
by bus using the North-South Highway.
Ten houses were washed away by the flood. Many young men braved the
rain and fast-rising water to rescue old folks, women and children in their
villages. Mr Wong, 35, one of the rescuers said, We had to act fast because the
rescue teams could not get to our village in time.
Pupils in several schools were trapped in their classrooms. They were
rescued by the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department. The Assistant Director of
the department said, We also used seven boats to evacuate 800 people.
Fourteen families were given temporary shelter at the Rawang Town Hall.

Many people visit Melaka to see the old buildings there. The most famous
building is called A Famosa. The Portuguese built it in 1511. Another old building
is called the Stadhuys. It was built by the Dutch in 1650. It is a big building with
many rooms and halls, stairs and corridors.
Places of worship are also interesting places to visit. A very old mosque is the
Kampung Kling Mosque. It looks beautiful with its three-tiered roof. The Cheng
Hoon Teng Temple, built in 1646, is the oldest Chinese temple in Malaysia. There are
beautiful carvings inside the temple.
The Saint Paul Church is situated on top of a hill. Only its stone walls and
floor can be seen today. Another interesting church is the Saint Xaviers Church, built
in 1849. It has two towers by the side of the entrance.
There are also many different types of traditional Malay buildings in Malacca.
Most of these are wooden buildings. The roofs are made of attap. The rooms are cool
and airy because of the numerous windows.

Dear Uncle John
How are you? Are you surprised to receive a letter from me? Well, I need your help
to do something important.
About forty scouts in my school, including me, are planning to camp in
Taman Negara for five days. We have to buy these camping equipment:
1. Tents The tents should be made of nylon and they should be light.
Each tent has to be big enough for four scouts.
2. Haversacks We need haversacks with many pockets and
compartments.
Dad says that the ones in the shops here are not of good quality. They will
damage easily. Could you please find out the prices of these equipments from
several shops in Kuala Lumpur? We do not have a large budget so we have to buy
the cheapest we can get. We also need boots, torchlights and compasses. We can
buy these in Bentong.
Hope you can give me the information soon. I am very excited about the trip.
Love from everyone at home. Bye.
