INT. BOOK BUILDING

Blackness. We start to hear one person panting and mumbling
for help. Sudden cut to a suited mans face dominating the
screen, covered in BLOOD and fear. This is clearly through
someones POV. The suited man is clearly FBI, wearing the
black leather piece with gold badge.
FBI AGENT
You gotta help me please!
POV
Just sit tight, youre gonna be
alright.
The persons whos POV we are following has black-green
fingerless gloves: a BLACK M1911 handgun in one hand, the
other is dragging the FBI agent to the side.
POV
Youre gonna be alright, man. Keep
the pressure going.
They shake hands tightly. POVs hand has a cross tattooed
below the thumb-knuckle.
FBI AGENT
Its too late. Stop - him - NOW.
The FBI AGENT passes out. The POV steps back, we turn and
run down the hallway. As we turn the corner, an armed gunman
with a gas mask with a silenced weapon jumps out. POV swipes
the arm out the way, gives a punch to the gut, kicks the
gunman back against the wall.
GUNMAN
NO! DONT POV fires a round into one of the eyeholes of the gasmask.
Blood spatters the screen and POVs hands. The body slides
down from the wall.
EXT. FRENCH BAR - JUNE 28, 1964, 2:32 AM
-"Sad Hours" by Little Walters ROGER, a bearded man sits at a bar staring down at his
drink. He used to be in peak physical shape, but a few years
of booze and cigars have taken its toll on his body. He has
a stern face. He looks at his glass with vacant expression,
with a hint of anger and sadness. The bar is nearly empty;
only a few old men and chatting teenagers remain in the bar.

The BARTENDER walks over to ROGER. Clearly this isnt his

first time serving this man, nor his last.
BARTENDER
Si vous avez besoin dune chambre
du lit, je peux telephoner
LAuberge de Bruges. Cest moins de
cinque kilometres dici.
ROGER
No.
The BARTENDER shakes his head and continues to dry glasses.
BARTENDER
Ca va.
ROGER continues to twist his glass and stare at his drink.
He has a cross tattoo under his thumb-knuckle.
ALICE in a black professional attire walks in to the bar.
She sits down next to ROGER.
ALICE
What is it you are drinking?
ROGER pauses. He looks to the BARTENDER.
ROGER
What is this again, Phillipe?
BARTENDER
Cest "Old Crow". Vous avez
demande un ordination special
depuis un mois pour ca.
ROGER
Old Crow is a bourbon I used to
drink stateside.
ALICE
In France there are plenty of good
drinks, no?
ROGER
To be quite frank, your drinks are
too sweet. Cheap midwestern bourbon
- well, thats a work of art.
ALICE nods and ponders at ROGER.

ALICE
You are American, no?
ROGER
(takes another sip)
Howd you know.
ALICE
I am so sorry to hear about your
President Kennedy.

ROGER puts down his glass.

ALICE
You are Master Sargeant MacAvoy,
correct?
ROGER doesnt look at her.
ROGER
"Was," I guess. (takes another sip
of his drink)
ALICE
You can guess who I am?
ROGER finishes his drink.
ALICE
Do you know why I am here?
ROGER puts down the glass. He gestures to the BARTENDER.
ROGER
Lets close with a Long Island,
Phillipe. Extra tea.
ALICE
Do you know who I work for?
ROGER
Well, youre not GIGN. So my guess
is youre French or British
Intelligence.
ALICE
Correct. But thank you for calling
me GIGN. I take that as a
compliment.
ROGER
If you were GIGN Id already be in
cuffs. Or dead, special forces tend
to be that way.

ALICE
I think we both know the current
state of things.
ROGER
Well if youre here on orders from
French Intelligence, then the CIA
cant be far behind.
ALICE
I give it 6 hours before the
Americans arrive in Paris. Another
2 hours to arrive here with a
battalion of troops.
The BARTENDER gives ROGER his LONG ISLAND.
ROGER
And you want to take me in and sell
me back to the Americans.
ALICE
I want to know why the Americans
think youre so important. And
seeing that I have several hours to
interrogate you before they arrive,
I would like to ask you a few
questions.
ROGER
Its been two hundred and nineteen
days. If they found me fifty years
from now theyd be just as
persistent.
ALICE pauses.
ALICE
Are you a traitor, Sgt. McAvoy?
ROGER
If I was wrong, would that make me
a liar?
ALICE
Im not sure what youre talking
about.
ROGER
I mean I was there. I tried to stop
it.

ALICE
Its not your fault?
ROGER
I tried to stop it. God --(chokes
up)-- I would have never thought
what the big picture was. I knew
it, I just didnt see it.
ALICE
You sound like youre saying youre
being framed.
ROGER
Framed? Its my fault. I couldnt
stop it, but I should have.
ALICE
You left an FBI agent dead at the
scene.
ROGER
He was shot by someone else.
Ballistics would prove it. The FBI,
the CIA, - they dont care - they
just want to hold up a picture of
the man responsible. They want the
glory. The glory that every
newspaper in the world will have my
face on it in twelve hours. Me in
cuffs, the CIA right behind me.
ALICE
And the true criminal will walk
away freely, no?

ROGER takes large sip of his drink. He looks sincerely at

ALICE.
ROGER
The true criminal? The real
criminal is Dunn, the CIA - the
whole lot of those evil bastards.
ALICE
Why do you say they are evil?
ROGER
Dunn wants the CIA to be the
keystone of the United States. The
operations hes planned. He wants
the US to control the whole world,
without having to make headlines.

ALICE
How?
ROGER
Secrecy. The CIA crafts lies like
your countrymen craft wine.
Secrets, that if revealed -- I mean
big-time game-breakers. And these
are things that have - and will
happen.
BARTENDER
The only thing that WILL happen,
sir, is you are going to have a
very bad day if you do not pay your
tab.
ROGER drops a few notes to BARTENDER.
ALICE
And Dunn wants these because you
could destroy the CIA with these?
ROGER gets closer to ALICE
ROGER
I have a dossier in my hotel room.
Nuclear meltdowns, brainwashing,
chemical warfare - assassinations.
Im guessing thats why youre
here.
ALICE
Well, it would explain the US
excitement to send an entire army
to apprehend you tomorrow morning.
ROGER takes one last sip of his drink. He looks to ALICE.
ROGER
Do you really think I killed
Kennedy?
ALICE
I dont know.
ROGER
Because everything you know everything - is a lie.
