SCENE 1- EXTR. FOREST, 1973, NIGHT

After TITLES, C.U. Of the ‘SLAUGHTER’ SIGNPOST. FOREST NOISES can be

heard all around the sign.

Now, voices can be heard OFF SCREEN.

Camera PANS away from sign to reveal a WOODED PATH. Upon which a GROUP
OF RAUCOUS TEENAGERS are climbing up. These kids are all in there
HIKING GEAR. BOOTS, Woolly HATS, CRAMPONS, ETC. They are having the
time of there life! Laughing, shouting, drinking.

After a couple of minutes, they come across a DANGER-DO NOT ENTER sign.
The leader of the group: DONNIE, laughs, and walks straight past.
JACKIE; quiet but bright, calls back:

JACKIE

Hey, it says danger. Are you sure its a good idea to go in there?

DONNIE

Eh? (Notices sign) Oh, come on, that signpost is from the old
military base.

JANIE

Military base? What military base?

DONNIE

What? Didn’t I tell you that there was an old Military base up here?

JACKIE

This is the first I’ve heard of it.

JANIE

Yeah, Donnie. Come on, tell us.

DONNIE

Not much to say, really.

JACKIE

Yes there is! First of all, why would anyone build a military base in
Slaughter woods? Its hardly a strategic strong point.

DONNIE

Alright, fine. It was for experimenting.

JANIE

Experimenting? Experimenting what? Guns?

DONNIE

Nononono, something much worse.

JANIE

Like what.

DONNIE

(Cannot think how to describe it) Have you ever heard the legend of
Slaughter?

JANIE

No, why?

DONNIE

Well....

As he starts to explain, BOBBIE cuts in mid scentence.

BOBBIE

Wow! Look at that tree.

All turn to look at him, Donnie exasperated.

DONNIE

Shut up, Bobbie. (Looks around) We’d better not hang around here all
night, c’mon.

The group walk away.

Suddenly, the CAMERA shifts to MONSTERS P.O.V sitting in a tree,

watching the group up the track. Starts to follow them.

CUT BACK to group. Just talking.

So, where are we camping?

DONNIE

Theres a great place on top of the hill, come on.

CUT TO:
 3.

SCENE 2- EXT HILLTOP- SEVERAL HOURS LATER.

THE GROUP have made camp on top of the hill. BOBBIE now telling a ghost
story.

BOBBIE

.... And then, at the stroke of midnight, they found his body. He had
been stabbed by a pitchfork, and had a giant cross carved into his
chest...

DONNIE

Oh, please.

BOBBIE

(A bit hurt) Well, I’d like to see you do better.

DONNIE

(Seizing the chance) Ok, fine. I’ll tell you the legend of Slaughter.

JANIE

Yeah Donnie, lets hear this famous legend.

DONNIE

Right, fifty years ago, that down there was a bustling village. A
really big market held every Saturday, made about 220 quid a week...

JANIE

Look, I thought you were telling a ghost story; not giving a local
history lecture.

DONNIE

Yeah, I was just getting to it. So, it was this big, bustling, village.
Which was really growing fast. However; it wasn’t called ‘Slaughter!’
It was called ‘Sutton Woo’. Sutton Woo was growing bigger, and bigger,
until, suddenly, one day, everyone in the village vanished.

What do you mean ‘vanished’

DONNIE

Gone, nowhere to be seen! A women, Mary Grape, came down to visit her
cousins, and could find no-one! Later, she described the town as a
complete ghost town! It was as if everyone had just gone to the pub or
something! Except for the blood stains all over the streets. Or the
massive slashes in the doors and walls. Enough to show that something
terrible had happened here. However, the moment that she started
yaking, the military sent out a massive press statement, saying that
everyone had been taken for decontamination, or something.

After a big leakage at the base. But then, none came back! Course, the
military came up with all sorts of excuses. Deportation, or something.
But no-one believed them. Everyone knows something terrible happened.
They just don’t know what. Hence the new name: ‘Slaughter!’

JACKIE

(Unbelieving.) Oh, give over. Like that ever happened. How could a
whole village disappear?

DONNIE

Exactly! No-one knows!The only thing that gives any evidence whatsoever
is a carving found on a wall down in the village made at about the same
time. It says: ‘don't go into the woods.’

JACKIE

Meaning?

DONNIE

Yup, ‘Slaughter Woods.’

The others a bit freaked out.

DONNIE

Pretty freaky, huh?

JANIE

Tech, yeah, I’m glad you told us after we walked up into the woods, not
before.

DONNIE

Hah, yeah.

JANIE

But, how could anyone want to live in a village where something that
terrible happened?

DONNIE

Well, its not real, is it? Course its not. The “Slaughter” is just a
story for kids innit. You know, don’t go into the woods, or the
monsters will get you. Believe me, nothing is going to happen.

The FIRE GOES OUT.

The group is now tense, the atmosphere of joy completely gone.

The following dialogue should be SPOKEN AT THE SAME TIME

DONNIE

Who put the fire out? Jackie, was it you.

JACKIE

Hey! I’ve got nothing to do with this. The fire just went out on its
own.

DONNIE

Come on, guys, stop messing about.

JANIE

But I don’t get it, that fire was roaring a few seconds ago, no-one
could’ve put it out like that.

DONNIE

Yeah well Jackie poured water on it didn’t he!

JACKIE

Hey! Fuck you, I had nothing to do with this.

Whilst this exchange is going on, Bobbie notices a RUSTLING OF LEAVES

from the WOODS. As though something is COMING THROUGH.

BOBBIE

Hey, guys; shut up, and come and have a look at this!

The others stop squabbling, and come over to look.

JANIE

Oh god!

DONNIE

(Trying to be brave.) Who’s there.

The RUSTLING STOPS.

The gang stares; hardly daring to believe it. Has it gone?

Then, FOOTSTEPS! But unlike any human footsteps! Coming up the BANK
BEHIND THEM!

The gang are now SCARED! SCARED beyond belief. Janie turns to
Donnie....

JANIE

Donnie, who’s that?

The footsteps are GETTING CLOSER!

The Rustling is GETTING LOUDER!

Donnie is just standing there. To gobsmacked to answer.

JANIE

DONNIE!

Still no answer! The noises are Getting CLOSER and CLOSER. The gang
SCARDER and SCARDER. Huddling together..

The noises are getting LOUDER...

AND LOUDER...

A WHOOSHING SOUND...

Bobbie FALLS to his KNEES. His arms out streached....

JANIE

BOBBIE!!!!!

And Bobbie SCREAMS! The most unnatural scream ever!

The noises are closer than ever. A SHADOW of the CREATURE can be seen
coming over the brim of the hill...

Jackie takes charge.

JACKIE

Guys, RUN!

The whole gang, except Bobbie, CHARGES from the hilltop. Back into the
woods. Fleeing for there life.

Bobbie is left on the hilltop; SCREAMING....

SCENE 4- INTR WOODS, NIGHT

The GANG are THUNDERING through the woods.

JACKIE TRIPS...

The others catch him.

This causes them to stop. All three listen....

Silence...

JANIE

What happened to the noises?

JACKIE

SSSH!!

Jackie has now become leader of the group. They all stand there,
listening....

DONNIE

I’m sorry, guys.

(All turn to look.) I thought it was just a story. I had no idea it was
true. They said that all this stuff was cleaned up with the base.

JANIE

Oh, don’t be so pathetic.

JACKIE

Yeah, that was probably just someone playing around. What we need to do
is go down to the village; call the police; and get them to come up
here, arrest them, and bring Bobbie back. God, knows what they did to
him, hypnotism, or some....

Another SCREAM..

JANIE

Oh my god, thats Bobbie!

The scream STOPS....

Suddenly, RUNNING FOOTSTEPS can be heard coming down the hill, towards
the three of them.

JANIE

Um, that doesnt sound to me like someone larking around.

JACKIE

Run!

Switch to HANDHELD CAMERA’S, numerous images of the gang running.

The Noises getting louder once again.

Another SWOOSH...

Jackie falls.....

Its got him too....

Janie turns....

JANIE

JACKIE!!!!!

As she turns; she takes a different path to Donnie.

SCENE 5- INTR. WOODS NIGHT

Donnie FALLS...

He falls down a bank.

He struggles up again. Completely alone.

Silence.

SCENE 6- INT. WOODS NIGHT

JANIE releases she is alone.

JANIE

DONNIE!

SCENE 7- INT. WOODS NIGHT

DONNIE can hear Janie’s scream.

DONNIE

Im over here!

SCENE 8- INT. WOODS NIGHT

Janie runs to where she thinks the voice is coming from.

SCENE 9- INT. WOODS NIGHT

DONNIE so scared, looking around.

DONNIE’S P.O.V, looking around the woods.

A NOISE in THE TREES

Donnie, gasping, looks up.

DONNIE’S P.O.V, looking up in the trees.

A loud RUSHING noise....

C.U. Of Donnies face, as he falls to his knees, screaming.....

SCENE 10- INT. WOODS NIGHT

JANIE hears the scream. RUNS.

JANIE

DONNIE!!!

JANIE’S P.O.V as she runs.

She rounds a corner, and enters the clearing of scs. 5, 7, and 9....

She turns her head...

And see’s Donnie on his knees, shaking, with THE MONSTER standing over
him, arm out streached. But, before she, and the audience, can get a

proper look at it, something hits her over the head, and she falls...

CUT TO BLACK

TITLES

CUT TO:

SCENE 11- EXT. STREET-DAY- 30 YEARS LATER

C.U. Of ‘SLAUGHTER’ SIGN. Just like sc.1. This time, it is the sign on
the main road. A nice, posh, CAR has just pulled into the drive of one
of the houses. KARL COLLINS gets out. He is a banker. So a bit of a
yuppy. Wearing a black, stylish suit, thin black tie; and his hair tied

back in a pony tail.

He walks up to his new house, and has a good look. He smiles.

A new life.

CUT TO:

SCENE 12- INTR. HOUSE- EVENING

A knock at the door.

 10.

KARL, who has just finished unpacking, goes to answer.

He opens the door. TREVOR, his landlord, is there. About 50, a farmer,
is there.

KARL

Trevor! My good man, how the hell are you?

TREVOR

I’m alright thank you. I’ve just came to see if everything’s okay.

KARL

Of course, Of course come in.

CUT TO:

SCENE 13- INTR. HOUSE- EVENING

KARL and TREVOR have settled down, had a few drinks etc. Just talking
about house things.

TREVOR

... And the electric meter is usually checked about once every six
months. Alright?

KARL

Yeah, sure.

TREVOR

And if you have any problems, don’t hesitate to ask me or my wife

Doris. Okay?

KARL

I will, thanks.

TREVOR

(Rising) Well, I’ll take my leave.

Theres just one more thing.

TREVOR

Oh, whats that?

KARL

I am a bit of an artist, and I have been wondering for ages that thoose
woods over there must be beautiful to paint. I was wondering; how do I
get to them.

TREVOR

(Bit put off) Oh, you don’t wanna go to those woods, Karl.

KARL

Really, why.

TREVOR

Lots of strange things happen in those woods. The majority of the

village daren’t go in there.

KARL

Why?

TREVOR

I dunno, you just feel sort of.. Cold. Like somethings watching you.
Besides, they’ve never properly cleaned up after that military base was
there. There could be all sorts in there. No no, if its art your after,
your better off going up Gram peak. Yeah its quite good up there.

KARL

No, I’ve been up Gram peak, there’s nothing there. You just see
Durnley, and thats a big sight for sore eyes. I’d much rather go to
‘Slaughter woods.’

TREVOR

(Starting to leave) And I’d rather you didn’t, believe me; its for your
own good. Dont go into Slaughter Woods.

Trevor leaves.

Karl a bit bemused by this. He looks down on the table

Trevor has left some INFORMATION LEAFLETS on the table. He picks up

one: ‘Notable attractions in Slaughter.’ He flips through, until he
finds a page with a map on it. Adorned across the top: ‘Slaughter
Woods.’

CUT TO:

SCENE 14- EXTR PATH- DAY

KARL has hiked to the entrance of ‘Slaughter woods.’ He can see the
SIGN: ‘WELCOME TO SLAUGHTER’

Karl bites his lip

He decides that he does.

Karl marches up the path, straight into the woods.
