World 7: Monte Village

Total Blue Coins = 30

Total Shine Sprites = 11

Monte Village is accessed through the red

pipe on top of the the Shine Icon Monolith
that overlooks Dolphic Town. You will need
the rocket part to reach it, and if you
complete each world in order (or as close as
you can get to it) you will have the rocket
part long before you need to enter Monte
Village. This world has only a red and blue
tool box available, plus they are in hard to
each spots. Be very aware of what part you
need before you get it. You may find making
the wrong decision (or the correct decision
at the wrong time) very lethal.
Episode 1 - Mario will be required to kill three fiery chain chomps using the waterpack and his snap
move. The paint will set Mario on fire, plus it will not make him "invincible" after being hit. If Mario is
trapped on fire paint, he will die after long exposure to this paint. Monte Village is also a large place
and you should get familiar with the landscape fast. It's even more confusing when you consider that
there is a maze made of grating under the island. The only water source now is the small stream in
the center of the map. You will need to hose down the chain chomps and then grab their tails using
B. Then while holding down the B button, use the Analog stick to aim the monster. Pull back on the
Analog stick to start the snap attack. When you let go of the B button, you will snap the chain chomp
forward. Snap attack all three chain chomps into the stream in the center of the stage and Shine get

back to town.
Episode 2 --This is the last race with the purple mushroom headed little weirdo, and it will be the
toughest. You can avoid starting the race prematurely by U-turn jumping and then hovering over the
little squit (he's at the end of the bridge from where you start), then taking a gander of what you'll be
facing in the course. First off, the goal is at the ledge attached to the giant palm tree adjacent to the
hot springs. The hot springs are towards the far side of the village from where Mario starts. As you
head there, you'll notice that the path from the start of the race to the goal will not be straight forward
since the streets of the village will get in the way. There will also be a lot of low fences that Mario
needs to hop over along the way. To do this race under 30 seconds, you need to practice doing
multiple dive attacks in mid-air to zoom forward. Tap the A button to hop forward, then the B button to
immediately dive. Then tap A to jump up again and repeat the process. Naturally, you cannot do this
all the time, but you should use it to gain as much forward distance as possible. You can even do the
trick as Mario is heading up the giant palm tree, but that may prove fatal. Once you get the Shine,
you will mostly likely never visit this stage again.
Episode 3 - Mario will start this stage without his waterpack. It's almost like a secret stage, but not
quite. You will need to find the waterpack and then wash out the village "head man" who will present
Mario the Shine. The long way of doing this is to use the grating maze under the island to head from
one spot to another. However, there is the risk of dying in a bottomless chasm, so let's do this
another way. Head to the village over the starting bridge. Turn right and follow the area of ground that
is clear of fire paint. Hop into the small stream and follow it to the center of the stage (or at least until
it ends). You can use the residual water that sticks to Mario as a way of clearing a path to the large
platforms (where the gold mushroom is) and get the waterpack.
The residual water clinging to Mario's body drips off fast, so be in a hurry to U-turn jump, or leap out
of the water and land near the fire paint. If you are quick and determined (and use the occasional B
button induced dive), you will clear jsut enough area for you to do a U-turn jump and dive attack to
safety. There will be a 1 in 20 chance that you will succeed, but otherwise, you will have to go around
the long way. If you are patient and focus on getting as close to the safe area as possible, your
chances of success are higher. Once the waterpack is back in Mario's grasp, you can rescue the
village head man by heading to the top of the gold mushroom, plus if you are thorough and tidy, you
can bag a blue coin by erasing a grafitti M under the fire paint (near the starting bridge).
Episode 4 - Instead of three chain chomps, you will now need to face a single Giant Chain Chomp.
Go to it and hose it down while it is still chained. When it is cooled off, yank out the peg (at the tail)
using B. Now drag the monster to the hot springs on the side of the island across from the starting
bridge. You will most likely not get there in time before the Giant Chain Chomp hetas up again and
takes off. Mario can only drag the monster when it is cool (when you hear the metal clink), so repeat
the hose down and drag the monster until you get to the hot springs. Drag the monster's head close
to the water opening to get the Shine. There are water barrels at the side of the road that can help
cool down the Giant Chain Chomp faster if you are good with throwing barrels.
Episode 5 (Secret Stage Himitsu!) - You need to activate Yoshi, then head back across the starting
bridge and hop onto the mushroom platforms below. The you need is random (like in Bianco Hills)
and you can get all of them from the All-Inclusive Fruit Tree on the raised ground near the hot
springs. Roll or bring the fruit back to Yoshi and hop on. The mushroom platforms are best tackled
from the platform Mario starts the stage on. The mushroom platform that has the secret stage
entrance is barred by the yellow butter-fat and needs a dose of Yoshi water to eradicate. The secret
stage is relatively easy if you understand that each of the Islanders you speak with will immediately
throw Mario in the direction he was facing. All you need to do is to line up Mario and press B at the
right time. There's no time limit yet. As for the platform that has two Islanders (a big one and a little
guy), size does matter. And it is directly correlated with the distance Mario is thrown. For the Secret
Shine, you will need to look back after being thrown up onto an enclosed platform teeming with
Widget Puffies. There are two red coins on the tightrope and the platform it is connected to.
Episode 6 - A fun and profitable stage. Mario has three minutes (03:00:00) to find 10 Islanders
suffocating in fire paint. All ten villageres/islanders are on the "first level"; this means that you can
stay on the ground and find all ten "paint spots". When you spray the Islander out of the fire goop, be
sure to spray the Islander clean (emitting sparkles) before moving on. As always, the timer stops
when you've finished rescuing all ten people. Be sure to speak with all ten rescued Islanders

afterwards for a big reward. The Shine though, is with the village head man who briefed Mario on the
whole mess. Head to the starting bridge to find him. Shine get back to town. Post-script: you only
earn eight blue coins from the ten rescued villagers.
Episode 7 - Kill Imposter Mario. Avoid (or spray) the trail of burning slime it leaves behind.
Episode 8 - The last (normal) Red Coin collecting spree. If I had a dollar for each red coin I collected,
I could retire to any where I want, and do what ever I want, to whom ever I want, when ever I want,
for as long as I want. There's just that many Red Coins there were. All the red coins here are easy to
get, but hard to find. If you do not recognise the various village landmarks now, it's all over for you.
The red tool box (if you haven't found it by now) is on one of the higher platforms on the red palm tree
in the center of the stage. You can reach the first platform in that series by hopping off the wooden
structure that holds the gold mushroom. One last thing - do not trade the hover part for the rocket part
until you get the first seven coins, or you will be sorry.

Red Coin #1 - Under the island, but over the grate maze. To get this one, have Mario hop off
the starting ledge and onto the mushrooms below. Navigate Mario to the nearest piece of
grating that runs vertically and climb up and onto the horizontal grating. Running around up
top will reveal the red coin fast. When you get it, you will need to navigate the maze and come
back up to the village via the grating doors. Head back to the starting bridge when you do.
Red Coin #2 - From the starting bridge, face the center of the village (the bees will be on
Mario's right) and climb/walk up the giant palm tree to the right. Take the lower branch of the
giant palm tree, and locatte the red coin on the right-most frond (the leaf hanging over the
starting bridge).
Red Coin #3 - From the starting bridge, face the center of the village and head left. Go around
the edge of the village and head past the giant palm tree on that side. In the tall grass past the
giant palm tree, there is a red coin (by a swing).
Red Coin #4 - In the hot springs. Dive to get it.
Red Coin #5 - Under the crook of the giant palm tree (this giant palm is the one by the hot
springs). Beware the beehive; just charge in and get the coin.
Red Coin #6 - Under the All-Inclusive Fruit Tree "just outside" the hot springs.
Red Coin #7 - Follow the dry stream bed in the cetner of the village until you find a stack of
boxes. Get out the Ben-Gay, because mario's butt will be sore after getting this coin. For you
humourless folk, smash all the boxes in the stack and "coin get".
Red Coin #8 - From the red tool box, rocket jump to the gold mushroom. At the gold
mushroom, you should look up (first person view) and find some stationary cloud platforms
that you can stand on.

Rocket jump up there. You will now be able to reach one of the fronds of the giant red palm tree in
the center of the village. Get the red coin from the wooden platform on top of the tree; you should
also "spray the sun" while standing on the wooden platform. The Shine requires Mario to hitch a ride
on the flaoting dandelion seeds from the highest spot possible (the fronds on the red palm tree will
do) and then hop onto the cloud platforms out over the chasm just before the dandelion seed winks
out. Shine get back to town and we'll smash Imposter Mario's little face into the town's cement.
Secret Shine - You didn't spray the sun in Episode 8? Head there and get the rocket part. Rocket
jump up to the top of the red palm tree in the center of the village and stand on the woodden platform
with the Shine symbol. Spray the sun using first person view to get the Shine. Shine get.
100 Coin Shine - Use Episode 5 for the best results. Yoshi can bag some extra coins from the two
beehives and the grate maze (and mushroom platforms) below has some forty coins available. The
rest can be garnered from the Cloud Duppies (three coins, Yoshi's tongue attack) and the rest of the
village. Be imaginative with Mario's moves and you'll find coins you never believed you saw before.

Blue Coin List (Monte Village) - Click on each coin for a helpful screen shot.

Blue Coin Get 1 - Grafitti M on the rock wall. Do a 180 degree turn around at the start.

Blue Coin Get 2 - From the starting bridge, head left to the first giant palm tree and explore the
fronds. One will have a wooden platform with the prize.
Blue Coin Get 3 - From the starting bridge, head left and explore the grass on that side of the
stage. The blue coin will very close to a red coin in Episode 8.
Blue Coin Get 4 - In Episode 1 (or any night time version of the stage) stand on the gold
mushroom around the center of the stage and spray the moon.
Blue Coin Get 5 - Grafitti M on a building made out of basket wicker (it looks like grating, but
Mario cannot climb it).
Blue Coin Get 6 - Grafitti M on the rock wall that is part of the raised ground that has the AllInclusive Fruit Tree.
Blue Coin Get 7 - Linked grafitti triangle on the wall by the hot springs.
Blue Coin Get 8 - Linked grafitti triangle on the rock wall in the corner past the stack of boxes.
If you can spray this grafitti, you will be nowhere near the stack of boxes, but you can still see
it on screen if you move the camera.
Blue Coin Get 9 - At the top of one of the giant palm trees.
Blue Coin Get 10 - In Episode 1, under the bridge over the small stream.
Blue Coin Get 11 - In Episode 3, at the dam where the small stream empties into the chasm.
Blue Coin Get 12 - In Episode 3, get the waterpack, then return to find the mushroom
collecting Islander who is on fire (again).
Blue Coin Get 13 - In Episode 3, after getting the waterpack, spray off the paint by the starting
bridge to reveal a grafitti M under the paint.
Blue Coin Get 14 - Grafitti M on the wooden platform that the gold mushroom is on.
Blue Coin Get 15 - Yoshi (Episode 5). Kill beehive by the starting bridge.
Blue Coin Get 16 - Yoshi (Episode 5). Kill beehive by the hot springs giant palm tree.
Blue Coin Get 17 - Yoshi (Episode 5). Snap up the blue butterfly.
Blue Coin Get 18 - Episode 5, 6, 7, or 8. Butt stomp the nose of the hot springs statue.
Blue Coin Get 19 - Episode 5, 6, 7, or 8. Spray the caged hole of the red palm tree in the
center of the stage.
Blue Coin Get 20 - Wax blue bird near the red tool box.
Blue Coin Get 21 - Spray wooden sign by the starting bridge.
Blue Coin Get 22 - Grafitti M under the island. You will need to be on top of the grate maze to
reach this one.
Blue Coin Get 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 - In Episode 6, after finding all ten villagers, speak
to all of them for the rest of the coins. Do this after rescuing all ten villagers. Only eight will
offer blue coins. Be sure to check the area around the hot springs if you are missing "just one"
villager.
