MasterGuide

Material

Based on VDI 3323 CERATIZIT‘s MasterGuide divides

materials into six main groups.
Each is given a colour, according to the system partly
adopted in ISO 513.

Blue: steel Yellow: stainless steel Red: cast iron

machining, cementation, ferritic Cr-steels, austenitic grey cast iron, tempered iron,
tempered and constructional CrNi-steels, martensitic Cr- spheroidal cast iron, sintered
steels steels, duplex steels iron

Green: non ferrous metals Orange: heat resistant White: hard materials
and non metals alloys / titanium hardened steels (≥45 HRC),
Al wrought and Al cast alloys, Ni-/Co-base-alloys, chilled castings, hard cast
copper, copper alloys, non Ti-alloys irons
metal materials

Machining application type

Each coloured segment is divided into three sections, and

each section indicates the relevant machining application
type:

R = Rough machining M = Medium machining F = Fine machining

MasterGuide

Application

The ideal application area for each insert is indicated by a

black circle. Extended applications are indicated by an open
circle. The CERATIZIT MasterGuide provides you with an easily
understandable structure for choosing a product and enables
you to reduce grade and geometry stocks.

Through hole

With through holes a sharp-edged disk is

created as tool break-out occurs.
Safety measures are necessary.

Application recommendations

Off-centre drilling

Due to the special construction of ProfileMaster tools and inserts off-centre drilling is possible. Thus desired devations
from the tool‘s nominal diameter can be obtained (see table below).

Nominal tool ∅ Drilling ∅

Tool type D (mm) inch Dmin (inch) Dmax (inch)
PM 10R/L ... (10) .394 .388 .472
PM 12R/L ... (12) .472 .467 .591

Machining across centre line

Situation: Solution:
In case of insufficient movement of the machine across the Use a right-hand
centre line the external diameter can not be machined with ProfileMaster tool
the same tool.

Coolant supply / “Masterfinish” effect

Coolant supply

ProfileMaster is equipped with a unique coolant and

chip removal system.

1 Cooling of the insert cutting edge

2 2 General coolant stream

3 “Chipbooster“ prevents chips

from getting stuck between tool
and workpiece

1 3

In order to guarantee efficient chip evacuation from a hole,

a minimum coolant pressure of
3 – 6 bar (optimum 7 – 10 bar) is required.
