Choosing a career is a very important step. You will spend a good part of your life working. The

career you choose can determine who your friends are. It can determine where you live. It can determine
how much money you make.
Example : Choosing a career is a very important step, for you will spend a good part of your life
working. The career you choose can determine who your friends are, where you live, and
how much money you make.
People differ in their abilities. They differ in their interests. They differ in their temperaments. A
job may be perfect for on person. It may be a nightmare for someone else. For instance, Mary is very
good at working with abstract ideas. Susan is very good at working with abstract ideas. Mary likes to
solve problems. Susan likes to solve problems. They are both considering computer programming as a
career. Only one of them, Susan, is able to work quietly alone for long periods of time. Only Susan
should consider going into programming. Consider two other people, Mark and Edgar. Mark is thinking
about becoming a graphic designer. Edgar is thinking about becoming a graphic designer. One of these
two men should not choose graphic design as a career. Mark is creative. Edgar is creative. Mark is very
patient. Edgar is not very patient. Edgar does not like to do precise work. Edgar does not have the
patience to redo flawed projects. Edgar has artistic talent. He would not make a good graphic designer.
A career can make you happy. A career can make you unhappy. Before choosing a career, get to
know yourself well. Learn what kinds of jobs are available. Ask your relatives for advice. Ask your
parents. Ask your teachers for advice. Ask your friends for advice. Making the right career choice can
have big influence on your future well being.
