WAFFL Mock Draft - Version 3
WAFFL Mock Draft - Version 3
WAFFL Mock Draft - Version 3
I have awoken from my hibernation. A lot has happened since the last mock draft, including many
(questionable?) trades involving 1st rounders and Free Agency. As was expected with FA, many teams
addressed their biggest needs, including QB. At this point, I expect most teams to focus this draft on the
best available players and play the trend of taking FLEX first and foremost.
1 Washington Redskins Team Needs: FLEX, LB, QB, DT
QB Jameis Winston Even with Mallett and Cassel now on the roster and FLEX being a big need, WAS
cant afford to gamble on the two questionable QBs on their roster and will go with Winston here.
Winston will have some great weapons in Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans. Expect all three to put up big
numbers together.
Prior mock choice: QB Jameis Winston
2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Team Needs: FLEX, LB, DT
WR Kevin White White is jockeying for position with Amari Cooper in the NFL draft, but it wont matter
which Tampa picks here, because he gets back-to-back picks and will stock up in an area of extreme
need.
Prior mock choice: WR Kevin White
3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Team Needs: FLEX, LB, DT
WR Amari Cooper Here we are approaching May and Bortles is still on the TB roster despite their
intentions to trade him away and take one of the top two QBs. FLEX is just too great a need, so unless TB
can swing a last-minute trade while on the clock for a great FLEX, back-to-back FLEX makes the most
sense here.
Prior mock choice: QB Marcus Mariota
4 Green Bay Packers Team Needs: QB, FLEX, CB, LB
QB Marcus Mariota Leave it to GB to take a gamble and have it pay off swimmingly. If both QBs had
been gone here, GB would have been stuck with no QB of significance, especially if NFL-NYJ manages to
get Mariota. Dont be surprised if GB has to trade with TB for Bortles or Mariota if he ends up choosing
Mariota 2nd or 3rd overall.
Prior mock choice: WR Amari Cooper
5 New England Patriots Team Needs: FLEX, LB, S
RB Todd Gurley Rog knows his basic math and sees that the #1 RB is obviously better than the #3 WR
available. Gurley and Gordon are both good bets to end up with NFL teams that have a big RB hole, such
as NFL-ATL or NFL-SD, so expect them both to break some of the recent RB downward trends with
productive rookie seasons and beyond.
Prior mock choice: WR Devante Parker
6 Tennessee Titans Team Needs: FLEX, LB, DE
WR DeVante Parker If Parker ends up with NFL-STL and Foles throwing to him, this pick is the best bet
here. If Parker ends up with NFL-CLE with Druggie Football (or whoever else plays QB on that team), the
best bet here is probably the next RB on the board Gordon.
Prior mock choice: RB Todd Gurley
7 Green Bay Packers Team Needs: QB, FLEX, CB, LB
RB Melvin Gordon As mentioned before, expect the top two RBs to produce this season. Gordon is
explosive and could be a big difference-maker.
Prior mock choice: LB Randy Gregory
8 Tennessee Titans Team Needs: FLEX, LB, DE
WR Breshad Perriman With virtual identical measurables to Kevin White, to go along with impressive
explosiveness, Perriman has done a lot of work this off-season to move up the draft boards. TEN will add
to their FLEX void with another receiver here.
Prior mock choice: WR Sammie Coates
9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Team Needs: FLEX, LB, DT
LB Dante Fowler, Jr. TB was able to add some great production to their FLEX already, so now the next
thing on the list is LB. Getting the top OLB at #9 overall has to be attractive here. If you liked the Kahlil
Mack pick last season, Fowler is an intriguing specimen that didnt quite put up the numbers in Florida,
but can definitely translate his size and speed to the next level in the NFL when not forced to switch
positions all the time.
Prior mock choice: WR Jaelen Strong
10 Pittsburgh Steelers Team Needs: LB, DE, DT
LB Vic Beasley While not quite the same player as Von Miller, Beasley could end up putting up a lot of
TFL and Sacks as a pass-rusher. Luckily, PIT has a need at both LB and DE, so regardless of positioning,
Beasley could the pick here.
Prior mock choice: LB Dante Fowler Jr.
11 Green Bay Packers Team Needs: QB, FLEX, CB, LB
WR Jaelen Strong While playing at ASU, Strong often elevated his game against tougher competition.
He should be a productive player in the NFL with his ability to elevate over CBs as well. GB is able to
replenish some of the FLEX he dealt away this off-season with new, fresh talent.
Prior mock choice: CAR owned this pick previously, selecting RB Melvin Gordon
12 Washington Redskins Team Needs: FLEX, LB, QB, DT
WR Devin Funchess WAS goes for FLEX by selecting the lengthy, red-zone target in Funchess. Despite
his struggles at the combine, Funchess has good potential as either a WR or TE and that versatility is
reason to take a gamble on him.
Prior mock choice: WR Devin Funchess
13 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Team Needs: FLEX, LB, DT
DT Leonard Williams While it still wont be settled on his actual position until draft day (or potentially
later on), Williams is a special talent. TB has now addressed all of their needs and ends their first round
with a good haul.
Prior mock choice: DT Leonard Williams
14 Green Bay Packers Team Needs: QB, FLEX, CB, LB
LB Randy Gregory Its still too early to choose CB here, so GB will take on the explosive LB with great
length here. Gregory has a lot of potential to blossom into a star despite some concerns.
Prior mock choice: OAK owned this pick previously, choosing QB Brett Hundley, and then SF held it for a
brief moment before trading it to GB
15 Seattle Seahawks Team Needs: DE, LB, DT
DE Bud Dupree SEA gets on the board with Dupree, who translated a great combine into a huge jump
up the NFL draft boards. Dupree is a freak athletically that somehow exhibits great quickness despite his
huge frame.
Prior mock choice: LB Shaq Thompson
16 - Detroit Lions Team Needs: QB, LB, CB, DT
LB Shane Ray With Ray falling down the boards a bit due to his love of Mary Jane, DET gets good value
with the 16th overall pick. Ray could end up similar to Bruce Irvin in the NFL due to similar pass rushing
skills.
Prior mock choice: JAX owned this pick previously, picking DE Shane Ray
17 Detroit Lions - Team Needs: QB, LB, CB, DT
LB Eric Kendricks After choosing an OLB, DET goes with the first ILB here and hopes that Kendricks is
able to rack up a ton of tackles.
Prior mock choice: ATL owned this pick, going with S Landon Collins
18 - Detroit Lions Team Needs: QB, LB, CB, DT
QB Brett Hundley With no starting QB on their team, DET is forced to take Hundley here and hope he
blossoms into this years Derek Carr by winning a battle with a veteran in the NFL with plenty of teams
with that situation in place.
Prior mock choice: TB owned this pick previously, selecting CB Trae Waynes
19 - New England Patriots Team Needs: FLEX, LB, S
LB/S Shaq Thompson Rog knows that their team has a need at both LB and S, and because the Shaq
cant quite figure out what position he is, NEP will take him and hopes he continues to rack up tackles no
matter where he lines up. The true mystery here remains whether Rog is the genius or if the
supercomputer does all of the heavy lifting.
Prior mock choice: DE Vic Beasley
20 - Washington Redskins Team Needs: FLEX, LB, QB, DT
WR Nelson Agholor A lot of NFL teams have been whispering about Agholor as a late 1st round receiver
steal, so WAS could reel in the reliable WR in the loaded class here.
Prior mock choice: WR Devin Smith
21 Arizona Cardinals Team Needs: FLEX, LB, S, DE, CB
WR Phillip Dorsett A huge homerun threat, ARI gets on the board with Dorsett. The Miami receiver did
some impressive things in college without being overly productive, but could be another smaller, faster
star in the T.Y. Hilton or Antonio Brown mold.
Prior mock choice: RB Ameer Abdullah
22 Chicago Bears Team Needs: DE, FLEX, LB, CB, S
DE Arik Armstead If you havent heard the story of the monster Armstead, get out from under your
rock. But really, the huge player possesses a ton of potential despite his lack of production.
Prior mock choice: LB Denzel Perryman
23 - Washington Redskins Team Needs: FLEX, LB, QB, DT
LB Benardrick McKinney WAS finally gets around to addresses their LB need by taking the top ILB on
several draft experts boards. The Redskins end their 1st round with their top three needs addressed.
