Multifect-EC is an advanced eddy current tester that can sort components into up to 9 groups using multiple frequencies. It allows for GO/NO-GO testing and regression analysis of calibrated values. The system can test parts simultaneously at up to 8 frequencies to increase sorting confidence. Elliptical thresholds enable more accurate grouping than rectangular thresholds. It is versatile, easy to use, and can integrate with automatic sorting mechanisms and data logging for quality control.

Multifect-EC is an advanced and versatile multi-frequency
multi-channel eddy current comparator for segregation of metallic components and raw stock. Some typical applications are: Sorting of bars or components according to alloy type Sorting of fasteners according to hardness Segregation of forgings as per heat-treat condition Evaluation of gudgeon pins for case-depth Regression readout of values ( e.g. Hardness ) The system is built around an embedded Pentium processor. Standard or custom-built automatic sorting mechanisms can be supplied with the system. Multifect-EC can also come packaged in a more portable case for field sorting requirements. Multifect-EC can test parts at up to 8 frequencies at one go, thus increasing confidence in the process. This feature can also help in solving certain problems that cannot be solved at just one frequency. The setup is completely automatic, making the system very easy to operate. Elliptical thresholds enable more natural grouping, covering the spread in signals due to the inevitable differences in metallurgical properties within a group. Conventional rectangular thresholds are also available for simple single frequency applications.
The ability to map certain
areas to GO and others to NO-GO is extremely useful

Multifect-EC displays are quite configurable. This screen shows a
typical single frequency test. Other displays can show tests at four or eight frequencies at a time. Stored results can also be replayed.
Why Test at Multiple frequencies?
Eddy current response depends on electrical conductivity and magnetic permeability. Components can be sorted into desired groups so long as there is difference in either of the two attributes at some test frequency. If you have more than two groups, it might just so happen that some can be separated at one frequency while others might resolve at another frequency. In such cases, tests at multiple frequencies are required. The system tests each part at several test frequencies, and arrives at the correct grouping depending on elliptical thresholds set at the various frequencies. The system has wizards that setup the test for group sorting based on showing it several known samples of each group. If the parts can be sorted at one single frequency, the system sets itself up accordingly. If multiple frequencies are required, the system sets up a multiplexed multi-frequency test and adjusts all elliptical thresholds at each frequency automatically. F1
