Arts Mid-Hudson to Award Over $97,000 to 50 Projects

Details:
Arts Mid-Hudson (formerly the Dutchess County Arts Council) will present grant awards
totaling over $97,000 to artists and organizations throughout Dutchess, Orange and Ulster
Counties. The grant awards will be made in three categories - Project Grants, Individual
Artist Commission, and Artist in Residence/Public School Grants at an open awards
reception held at The Barn at Buttermilk Falls.These awards are made possible with funds
from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the
Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and
administered by Arts Mid-Hudson.

39 Community-based Project Grantswill receive funding in 2015, serving an estimated


audience of over 50,000 people. Project Grants support the arts and cultural activities of nonprofit groups, organizations and artists in Dutchess, Orange and Ulster Counties. Recipients can
be found from Rhinebeck to Beacon, Poughkeepsie to Wassaic, Warwick to Newburgh,
Shandaken to Kingston and many more. These include professional and community based arts
activities benefiting the general public in theater, dance, music, film, video, literature, visual
arts, historical and cultural activities, and the use of libraries and museums as venues for the
arts. Project grant programs are designed to serve all ages and ethnically diverse populations
from all geographic areas of all three counties.

Arts Mid-Hudson is excited to be able to include fourIndividual Artist Commission


Grantsin the 2015 Awards. This grant program supports the creation of new work by an
individual artist, which involves the community as context for creating the work. This year's
recipients include Nestor Madalengoitia, "100 Portraits of Poughkeepsie's Middle-Main" and
Karen Michel, "Stories To Go" in Dutchess County, Judy Thomas, "MATRIX" in Orange County
and Keiko Sono, "Disappearing Pond Project" in Ulster County.
Artist in Residence/Public School Grantssupport in-school residencies by artists and/or
cultural organizations, and focus on sequential, skill based knowledge. Seven projects were

approved for funding to take place during 2015. Projects include visual arts, dance and theatre
among others.
