NEW! Sprayground 2015

GB Sprayground Town of Chili, Town Supervisor Dunning along with Senator Ranzenhofer
welcomed the community at a ground breaking ceremony for the Union Station Park
sprayground. Dedicated in 1994, the park spans over 59 acres and includes a lodge that
accommodates up to 80 people, playground equipment, a nature trail, access to Black Creek,
2 athletic fields, a basketball court and paved trail perfect for walking and biking. Funding
for this is provided by a generous grant given to the Town of Chili by our NYS Senator Michael
Ranzenhofer. David Lindsay, Commissioner of Public Works, Michael Curley, Director of
Parks & Recreation and Tony Sloan, Parks Foreman joined the public officials as we broke
ground. One of my favorite parts of being the Town Supervisor is providing the community
something special and having a place where the kids can come and have fun, said Town
Supervisor David Dunning. The sprayground concept came from the recommendation in
the Parks & Recreation Master Plan. The town will now begin developing a site plan for this
project, with construction starting this Spring.

Chili Parks

Ballantyne Park is a two acre park located on Ballantyne Road, next to the Arc of Monroe
County that includes a playing field and playground.
The Chili Community Center is located at 4400 Buffalo Road in North Chili and is home
to various recreational programs, special events and meetings. The building consists of a
meeting rooms as well as, a gymnasium. These facilities are available for public, non-profit
groups to use. Along with the center, the property has a baseball field, basketball court and
playground.
Davis Park is a 52-acre park with two entrances. The park can be accessed from either
Chestnut Ridge Road or Paul Road. This park is home to six baseball fields, five soccer fields,
two open air pavilions to rent, restrooms, tennis courts and two playgrounds.
Hubbard Park is seven acre park is located in North Chili on Union Street near Parkway
Drive. The park has a baseball field, tennis courts, a basketball court and playground.
Memorial Park is located at 3235 Chili Avenue. This 11.6 acre park is home to many playing
fields, a basketball court, tennis courts, and a playground. Memorial Park playing fields
include six baseball fields (two with lights) and Merante Field a premier soccer/football field
with lights.

Weekly Activities at the Senior Center: Monday Silver Chords Chorus and Decorative
Painting, Tuesday Bridge and Stretch & Strengthen, Tuesday & Friday Table Tennis,
Wednesday Chili Woodcarvers, Wednesday Euchre and Chain Gang (knit/crochet),
Thursday W-IN and Wii Fun, crafts, birthday parties, Friday movies, motorcoach trips and

Senior Assistance: We have information on the following services for seniors: EISEP,
Lifespan, Eldersource, assisted living and Monroe County programs. Stop in or call for a
brochure.
Meals on Wheels: This service provides valuable nutrition for seniors who are
recuperating from an illness, are homebound or are in need of assistance. Call 585-7878397 for more information from Visiting Nurse Service.
Chili Lions Medical Loan Closet; This facility houses medical aids for community
needs. When a local person is in need of equipment for post-hospital care, the Loan Closet
can be contacted and equipment can be borrowed at no charge. Contact the Loan Closet
at 585-594-0839.
STAR Program (Support to Aging Residents): This is a unique program in Monroe
County. It offers individualized services. This includes essential transportation (grocery
shopping, banking, medical transportation, prescription pick-up) and occasional needs
(friendly visits, telephone reassurance, yard work and chores) to all frail, elderly persons
over 60 years of age, either by a donation-based or small fee for the service program.
We need your help. Volunteers are needed to do simple things that many of our elderly
neighbors cannot do for themselves. It just takes an hour or two of your time each month
to brighten a life. For more information call 585-262-7057.
Lunch Club 60 Program: Monday & Thursday at Noon.Seniors age 60 and older and
their spouses of any age are eligible for lunch. Suggested contribution is $3/person, $6/
under age 60. Check the menu [no substitutions] and sign up at least two weeks in advance.

Food Donations: We accept non-perishable food donations all year long. Please be sure
dates are current and cans are not dented.
AARP Tax Assistance: Offered free of charge for our seniors, ages 60 and over.
Appointments start in January and can be made by calling the Town Hall at 585-889-3550.

Yolanda Park, a 3.7-acre park, is located on Yolanda Drive and consists of a soccer field and
playground equipment.

AARP Defensive Driving Courses for Chili Residents: Non residents are accepted two
weeks prior to class starting date. Classes are Tuesday and Friday mornings 9 am - noon.
You must attend both sessions. Fee. Please bring your membership card to the first class.
You must sign up in advance. May 19th & 22nd, June 23rd & 26th, July 21st & 24th,
August - No Classes, September 15th & 18th, October 20th & 23rd, November 17th &
20th, December - No Classes.

Chili Nature Trail is located off Chili Avenue, behind the Chili Heights Apartment complex.
This 36-acre park is made up of various trails, an open field, scenic pond and two overlook
areas.

Chili Public Library

Widener Park is 28-acre recreational area is located at 400 Chili Scottsville Road. The
property is home to an 18 hole disc-golf course and boasts beautiful landscapes perfect for
hiking, a butterfly garden and an open air picnic pavilion that holds up to 40 and has access
to electricity that is available to rent.
Union Park the town of Chili is proud to offer our lodge at Union Station Park which is
available to rent for family and community events. Access to the park and lodge is at
3720 Union Street in North Chili at the end of Rock Island Road. This enclosed lodge offers
accommodations for up to 80, indoor restroom facilities, kitchenette and a fully paved
parking lot. Recreation facilities surrounding this lodge include playgound equipment, a
nature trail, access to Black Creek, two athletic fields, a basketball court and a paved walking
| biking trail. Rental fees are $150 for residents of Chili, and $200 for non-residents. Alcoholic
beverages are not allowed in the park or in the lodge. Call 585-889-4680 for further information

Chili Senior Living

The Chili Senior Center supports many adults in their effort to remain healthy, active and
independent members of the community by providing socially, intellectually, and physically
enriching activities for the senior age 55 and over. The Chili Senior Center also serves the
senior community by acting as a resource for senior-related issues. Chili Senior Center, 3235

For over 50 years the Chili Public Library has provided a welcoming place for its residents
to engage in lifelong learning, pleasure reading, and programs for all ages. On October 15,
1962, the library began as an 18 x 50 foot room in what was then the Town Hall. In 1966,
a 6,300 square foot library addition was added to the Town Hall and served as the towns
library for more than 30 years. In June 1997, the residents approved a bond resolution to
construct a new one-story Library and Town Hall facility on 24 acres of land donated by
Wegmans, and in 1998, the 16,600 square foot library building opened its doors to the
public. With almost three times the space of the former library, the new facility includes a
separate childrens room, story time room, multipurpose room and space for computers,
materials, patrons and staff. The Town and Library Boards, staff, volunteers and Friends of
the Chili Public Library have worked diligently to provide first rate materials, programs
and services to those in the community.
The Friends of the Library provide many goods and services, including the purchase of Book
Trucks, Computer Software, Digital Camera, Encyclopedia, Globes, HP Digital Projector,
Musical Instruments for Childrens Services, New Baby Books, Projection Screen and Cart,
Rug for the New Book Area and Story Time Books. They also support All Age Level Summer
Reading Programs, Concerts, Five Monthly Book Discussion Groups, Monthly Aquarium
Maintenance and the Books to People Program.
The library welcomes people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the many offerings and
participate in the numerous programs. The library works hard to meet any special
circumstances and make accommodations for an enjoyable experience.

Club, Minecraft Madness, PJ Storytime, American Girl Club, Chess Club, Fitness Fridays and

Tie Dye Program, Makerspace, Broadway Bags (special kits that include the score,
soundtrack, book, and movie of a number of popular stage shows), photo contest and

Town of GATES

Gates is a dynamic town with an interesting past and a bright future. The town was
incorporated in 1813 and was the last remnants of Northampton founded 1797 in Ontario
County. The community has been at the center of history for this area and the roots of
Rochester can be directly traced to our town. Rochesterville was a village in Gates until
Nathaniel T. Rochester presented the application of incorporation to the Legislature which
was approved 1817 and by 1822 the name was legally changed to Rochester.

The Gates Volunteer Ambulance Service has a rich heritage of providing prompt,
professional service to the residents of the town of Gates for more than 50 years.
Over time, weve adapted to changes in the field of EMS and embraced to the latest
technologies. With five advanced life support (ALS) ambulances, two ALS response
vehicles and a roster of 180 career and volunteer EMS professionals, Gates Volunteer
Ambulance Service is focused on providing a world-class level of care.

Farming has ended in town since our sesquicentennial but the current mix of industrial,
commercial and residential properties is the proper balance to hold taxes stable while
keeping a hometown feel.

The Gates Police Department is proud to serve local residents and businesses! The officers
come from a diverse background, are very professional and all well trained. Besides
typical police calls, the officers also respond to vehicle lock outs, Code Enforcement issues,
animal calls and anything else our residents need assistance with. The police department
is a function of government that is available 24/7 and holidays! Quality of life issues are
important to residents and they are important to the police department as well.
The Neighborhood Watch Program is facilitated through up-to-date and real time emails
of crime trends occurring in residential neighborhoods. It is important for residents to
know what to look for by having current information about their neighborhood. The
neighborhood watch captains are instrumental in maintaining the email lists for their
neighborhood and forward the information from the police department.

Thats one call for every 6 residents! From car accidents and trouble breathing, to aches
and pains, Gates Ambulance professionals are there to answer the call. But thats not
all we do. Gates also conducts blood pressure clinics, community stand-bys, CPR and
first aid training classes, Child Safety seat inspections and tours for civic organizations.
We also operate one of Monroe Countys largest mobility assistance loan closets, with
nearly 700 crutches, wheelchairs, walkers and canes in our inventory, free of charge to
Gates residents.

The Gates Public Library

The library has an outstanding collection of multi-media materials. By offering open
access to this wide array of materials, services, programs, and external resources, the
Gates Public Library is an enriching influence in the lives of Gates citizens, serving its
patrons of all ages and backgrounds, and also meeting the evolving needs of a multicultural community. The library is an independent town library funded primarily by
Town of Gates taxpayers and governed by the Gates Public Library Board of Trustees.
Per its mission the library provides materials, information, services, programs and
entertainment to strengthen the Gates community and promote literacy, personal

The following programs and services are planned exclusively for adults 50 years of age and
over: disaster support services, health insurance information, counseling and assistance
program, medical transportation, Eldersource care, volunteer transport, Senior Angels,

Gates Recreation and Parks Department

The nationally accredited Gates Recreation and Parks Department at 1605 Buffalo Road
offers a variety of programs, special events, park facilities and services for all members
of the Gates community. The Recreation and Parks Department welcomes persons
with special needs in our programs. The Department is committed to providing quality
recreation and leisure opportunities for everyone. We encourage those with special needs
to participate in our programs and to make your experience with us the best it can be.
For special events, pre-school, youth, teen, adult and senior activities information and

Preschool Play A large room filled with toys, mats, scooters, slides, tunnels, puzzles,
blocks and other play equipment; what more could you ask for? This is a wonderful opportunity for children to get together.
Munchkin Madness Does your child enjoy hands-on activities? Then come and enjoy a
number of weekly themed activities and crafts.
HappyFeet Soccer is part of the growing family of HappyFeet programs that started
in Kansas City. It is not a surprise that so many young children have fun with HappyFeet
every week!
Summer Playgrounds Program: Gates Recreation and Parks Department has announced that registration has begun for this summers program. This daily activity program offers a wide range of activities and experiences providing children an opportunity
to explore new activities along with past fun favorites.
Activities & Services for Adult 50+: There are a number of activities and services offered including plant exchange, traveling golf league, yoga, knitting group, sip and paint,
ballroom dancing, adult trips and more.
Continuing Programs Drop-in Programs or Registration is still being accepted. The
Gates Recreation and Parks Department has a number of programs and activities that
have begun, but drop-in programs or registration is still being accepted, so select the
program(s) that interest you!
The Gates Recreation and Parks Department is always looking for new and innovative
talent. If you possess a skill and the ability to lead an activity, please call the office to
discuss your idea.
Seeking adult leaders ...The Gates Recreation and Parks Department is always seeking
adult leaders (paid and volunteer) to assist with a variety of seasonal special events,
including Summer Playground Activities, Halloween Festivities, Community Christmas
Tree Lighting and Holiday Party, and many more. Please contact the Recreation and Parks

Park Facilities
The Gates Recreation and Parks Department owns and maintains 130 acres of parkland.
Each park has recreation areas to serve various needs.
Memorial Park is a 30-acre park located at 150 Spencerport Road. The park features
three ball diamonds, two football/soccer fields, natural pond, playground, bocce court,
and restrooms. The enclosed shelter, with covered patio, has a small kitchen equipped
with a stove, microwave, refrigerator and freezer. Seating capacity is approximately 125.
ADA restroom facilities are located inside the building for shelter patrons.
Lions Park is a 14-acre park located at 100 Kentucky Avenue off of Long Pond Road. The
park has an enclosed shelter with a covered patio and a kitchen equipped with a stove,
microwave, refrigerator and freezer. Shelter capacity is 95. The park features three lighted

tennis courts, lighted basketball court, sand volleyball, ball field, soccer/football field.
The park also has a bocce court, horseshoe pits, a shuffleboard court, accessible fishing
pier and a childrens play area.
Wegman Road Park is a two-acre recreation area located at 510 Wegman Road. The
park features an open pavilion accommodating about 24, two play structures, a climbing
wall and a swing set. The park also has an accessible restroom. The park is open dawn
to dusk.
Westgate Park is a 16.5-acre park located at 1489 Howard Road, next to the post office.
This facility includes an enclosed shelter with a covered patio, a kitchen equipped with a
stove, refrigerator and freezer. Seating capacity is 125. The park features an open pavilion
with seating for up to 90, grills, two lighted tennis courts, two basketball courts, two
baseball fields, a skate park, horseshoe pits, a bocce court, two childrens play structures
and a nature trail.
Gates Town Park is a 68-acre site with four soccer fields, restroom facilities, and a 90foot baseball field, two play structures, swing set, climbers, tire swing and accessible
fishing pier. The woodlands 9-Hole Disc Golf Course is also located here! The park is
located at 4310 Lyell Road and is open dawn to dusk.
The Hinchey Historical House and Park. Built in the 1870s, the historical Hinchey
Homestead is the only structure in Gates listed on the National Register of Historic Places
and is now part of the towns park system. The house and large barn sit on a 3.1 acre site
located at 634 Hinchey Road. The Gates Historical Society is managing the house and can
be contacted at 464-9740 for information on tours and programs.
Rental Information: If you wish to reserve the shelters at Lions, Memorial, Wegman
Road or Westgate Parks you may do so no more than one year in advance by obtaining
a permit at the Gates Recreation and Parks Office. Shelters are available to rent from 9
am-9:45 pm daily. See website for rates and availability, www.gatesrecparks.org or

Dog Control
Under the Town of Gates Code, any officer or Animal Control Officer of the town may
seize any dog not on the owners premises or any unlicensed dog, whether or not on
the owners premises. Stray dogs are generally taken to an offsite facility. For additional
information, please call Monday - Friday (9 am - 5 pm ) at 247-6100 or call 911 on
weekends. The dog will be released once the clerk has proof of current license, including
proof of rabies vaccination and payment of boarding and seizure fees. The town clerk
accepts cash, check, or credit card for all dog license transactions.

Highway Department
The responsibilities of the department are varied and include snow and ice control,
pavement maintenance and repair, street signage, curbside collection of brush, fall leaf
collection, maintenance of storm sewers and drainage channels and maintenance of all
highway equipment.
Weekly pick-up includes: brush, wood (maximum 4 feet lengths), rocks, concrete,
unbagged leaves (fall only), metal (including household appliances), nothing in barrels
or bags, and unmounted automobile tires (only 1st week in May). No grass clippings.
Waste oil disposal is taken at the Highway Department during normal business hours
Monday -Friday.
Leaf mulch and wood chips are available to residents for pick up at the Highway
Department, free of charge, during normal business hours Monday- Friday.

Tire pick up, unmounted automotive tires are picked up, at curb side, one week per
year. This pick up is done to help prevent West Nile Virus by eliminating one of the most
common breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Please visit www.townofgates.org/index.

Highway crews are responsible for snow and ice removal with fourteen plowing routes
that cover 92 miles of town roads, 50 miles of county roads and 51 miles of state roads.
Should your mail box be damaged during snowplowing, it is the towns policy to replace
a mailbox with a standard rural mailbox with wood post. Due to town budget restrictions,
only the standard replacement can be provided.

treasure, right? Reserve a spot for only
$15 to sell, or come out and find bargains!
Vendors are required to bring their own
tables or stands and it is suggested a 10 x
10 tent. Each vendor will have their own
space and is responsible for the sale of their
own merchandise. Any merchandise left at
the end of the sale must be removed. You
may choose to purchase up to two spaces.
Setup time will be Saturday morning from
7:30- 9:00 am. Vendor space is limited, so
register early. Please call the rec office for
additional details.

Day of Play in Davis Park

The Day of Play is a community celebration
that marks the start of summer with Chili
Recreation in Davis Park. Come see what
our park has to offer! There will be bouncy
rides, games, community health vendors,
music, food and frozen desserts. Come out
and support the benefits of parks, fitness,
and wellness of our community. The
Chili Recreation tent will be showcasing
upcoming programs and events along with
park brochures and information. This event
is FREE for all members of the community
and food is available for purchase.

Celebrate the coolest penguins out
there and learn to be more like Skipper,
Rico, Private and Kowalski! Travel the
world without leaving the Park during
Secret Agent Training. Ride a mechanical
surfboard and then prepare to get wet on
our Penguin Stomach Slide! Bring your
bathing suit and towel!
