RHP Justin Germano (1-1, 1.23) vs. LHP Luis Cruz (0-1, 7.07)

ABOUT TUESDAY NIGHT: The Rainiers routed

the Grizzlies 13-3 behind three-run home runs from
Carlos Rivero and Julio Morban. Tacoma jumped
on the scoreboard early with seven runs in the first
inning, chasing starter Brett Oberholtzer from the
game after only 2.2 innings. The Tacoma offense
struck for six more runs in the sixth inning. Chris
Taylor, Stefen Romero, Jesus Montero, Franklin
Gutierrez, and John Hicks all notched multiple hits.
Starting pitcher Jordan Pries improved to 2-1 with
5.1 innings of work, allowing three runs on five hits.
HEADS UP, 7 UP: Tacomas seven-run performance
in the first inning of last nights game is the most
runs scored in the opening frame since May 13,
2007, when the Rainiers plated nine runs in the top
of the first on the road at Albuquerque. Since then,
they have notched five six-run first innings.
SAVE SOME RUNS: The Rainiers 13 run outburst
last night was the most runs scored at home since
a 13-10 victory over Fresno on August 9 of 2014.
Tacoma scored 10 or more runs in 13 games last
year and combined to go 3-10 following those
games while scoring an average of only 2.4 runs they were shut out in three of those losses.
SEND IT: Outfielder Julio Morbans three-run dinger
in the sixth inning last night was his first career
Triple-A home run - it was his first home run since
July 5, 2014. The seventh year professional now
has 35 career minor league home runs. Morban has
hit home runs in consecutive games once in his
career, when he went deep in three-straight games
between June 1-3 of 2012.
GERMA-NO: Tacoma starting pitcher Justin
Germano makes his first start of the season
tonight - it is his first start since August 28, 2014.
He has allowed only seven base runners through
14.2 innings pitched this year, giving him 4.30
baserunners per nine innings pitched, the third
lowest in the league. His opponent batting average
of .098 (5x51) is the fifth lowest among Pacific
Coast League qualified relievers.
The sixteen-year professional has made 10 career
starts against Fresno, going 3-1 with a 3.54 ERA
(24ERx61.0IP). His most recent start against the
Grizzlies came on June 23 of 2014, when he went
6.0 innings and allowed four runs on six hits,
striking out five.

CONNECTIONS: Rainiers manager Pat Listach

played for the Houston Astros, the parent team of
the Fresno Grizzlies, for 52 games during the 1997
season. He hit .182 (24x132) with two doubles, two
triples, and six RBI.
Listach also served as the first base coach for the
Houston Astros during the 2014 season. Nine current
members of the Grizzlies played for Houston last
year: Jake Buchanan, Kevin Chapman, Darin Downs,
Brett Oberholtzer, Max Stassi, Matt Dominguez, Jon
Singleton, Alex Presley, and Domingo Santana.
TWO FACES: The Rainiers team batting average
of .269 (199x741) leads the Mariners farm system,
while their team ERA of 4.56 (94ERx185.2IP) is last
in the organization.
ON THE CLOCK: Today marks the first game that
pitch and inning clock violations will be enforced.
Pitchers and batters who violate will be given a
warning upon first offense and be issued either a
ball or strike upon subsequent violations.
QUIK MARTE: Rainiers infielder Ketel Marte leads
the Rainiers and is second in the Pacific Coast
League with eight stolen bases, and has recorded
one stolen base in five of the last seven games.
Marte has 88 career stolen bases and swipes bags
at a 72% success rate. He is also the only Tacoma
player and one of only nine players in the league to
have seen time in each of his clubs first 21 games
this year. The Mariners No. 4 prospect is hitting .310
(27x87) with three doubles and seven RBI. His 87
at-bats are the fourth most in the league.
SEEKING 4000: The Rainiers need nine victories
to record 4,000 all-time franchise wins. Since 1960,
Tacoma has put together a record of 3,991-3,971
(.501). The Rainiers record as an affiliate of the
Seattle Mariners is 1,468-1,414 (.509). The Rainiers
have the third most all-time PCL franchise wins,
behind only Sacramento and Salt Lake.
