Sir/ Madam,
I am directed to state that the Executive Committee at its meeting held on
14/03/2014 at Council Office, New Delhi considered the matter with regard to three
teaching cadres of the teaching faculties in medical college/ institutes and decided as
under:
It was proposed that a letter should be written to all the concerned State authorities
directing them to strictly enforce the three teaching cadres as prescribed in the MCI
Teachers Eligibility Qualification Regulations, 1998:Post

Recognized
postgraduate

Teaching/Research Experience
(i) As Reader/ Associate Professor in Anatomy for four
years in a recognized medical college.
Desirable
(ii) Minimum of four Research publications indexed in
Index Medicus/national journal and one research
publication in international journal.

years in a recognized medical college.

Subject:

Three teaching cadres of the teaching facilities in medical college /

institutes

Sir,
In continuation to this office letter No. MCI-12(1)/2014-Med.Misc./101884 dated
09/04/2014, this is to inform you that the requirements mentioned in the last column
regarding the qualifications and teaching experience, the same has been amended by the
Council vide notification dtd. 21/7/2009 in Minimum Qualifications for teachers in Medical
Institutions Regulations 1998, which reads as under:4. The Teaching/Research experience requirements in all the subjects of Broadspecialities
shown in Table - 1 shall be substituted as under:(A) Professor:- (i) As Associate Professor in the subject concerned for three years inthe
recognized medical college.
(ii) Minimum of four research publications in indexed/national journals.
(B) Associate Professor:(i)As Assistant Professor in the concerned subject for four years in the recognized medical
college.
(ii)Minimum of two research publications in indexed/national journals.
5. The Teaching/Research experience requirements in all the subjects of Superspecialties
shown in Table - 2 shall be substituted as under:(A) Professor:(i) As Associate Professor in the subject concerned for three years in therecognized medical
college.
(ii)Minimum of four research publications in indexed/national journals.
(B) Associate Professor:(i)As Assistant Professor in the concerned subject for two years in the recognized medical
college.
(ii) Minimum of two research publications in indexed/national journals.
A copy of gazette notification dated 15/12/2009 is also enclosed in this regard.
In view of above, I am directed to request you to strictly enforce the three teaching
cadres as prescribed in the Medical Council of India Teachers Eligibility Qualification
Regulations, 1998 for all the MCI approved/recognized medical institutes in your
respective State as mentioned in the Council letter no. MCI-12(1)/2014-Med.Misc./101884
dated 09/04/2014.
