Being a passing out student of 05 batch I heard some people calling it that is called

In most universities of world, each
subject is normally allocated 40 theory
classes. In Mehran UET, however, we
have 52 official classes and if we add
extra classes then every semester we
have to take up to 60 classes per
subject! Now the questions arise “Is it

semester, then there will be 3 lectures
per week, which results in a less number
of classes and students will get spare
time to indulge in other useful activities
such as projects, sports, recreation and
research etc. However, the spare time
can only be efficiently utilized by the
students if they are supported with other
facilities like:
• 12 hour (if not 24-hour access) to
libraries and laboratories where
students can go and study in free time.
• Hygienic and inexpensive diet spots
are available to students, and
• Societies must be established with
official support which regularly arrange
sports event, recreational tours to
boost up the energies of students.
But having an eye on ground facts, our
students neither have an easy access to
the central library in their free timing as it
is too far from most of the departments
(ES, TL, BM) and majority of students
live in the Hyderabad city which is very
far from Jamshoro! Nor appropriate
facilities are provided which attracts the
interested students to spent extra time
on the campus after classes. That’s
probably the reason why unlike leading
world universities, our university gets
deserted immediately after the points
take us back to our sweet homes.
Moreover keeping the lengthy syllabus
in our mind, it is quite difficult to cover
the whole syllabus in 40 classes. 40
classes’ll also put the pressure on our
teachers to wind up the syllabus in
hasty manner.
Before the system of 52 lectures
introduced in our university, there used
to be a total of 40 classes and in that
system every week 3 theory and 3
practical classes used to take place.
No need to point out that in 52 class
system, we have 4 theory and 2
practical classes every week. The
point to note here is that in 40 classes
system we can have extra hour of
practical’s every week! It could be a
great decision in a place where more
emphases is on practical, but in our
university we have more emphases on
theory that’s why we have 2 classes of
practical, and even then our practical
is mostly performed in an hour or a few
minutes more. The same thing will
happen in the practical class of 3
hours.
Let me share my own experience with
you. Once I came across the timetable
of a class of 09 batch. They were
having 3 continuous practical classes
of a subject on Friday (which is half
day) and I was shocked when I came
to know that their practical was over
just in half an hour and then they all
were free for whole day. Had they
came from homes to study for half an
hour?
Now these are the things which should
be considered before we decide to
switch back to old system of 40
classes per semester. We all hope that
when new CL building starts working
asap, it will provide a nice place for
those students who wish to spend their
free time achieved through 40 class
system in studying and other useful
activities.
Campus News   
• The students didn’t send any news-stories. Probably because all of them are
sleeping and there is not much happening in their lives (just kidding!) But don’t
forget to post activities next time…(Not kidding this time!)
• A new help forum is created by the students of TL and ES departments named
“Mehran University Student Team (MUST)”, which aims to cater the academic
needs of students.
• A new team of FEECE-MUET e-NEWSLETTER is being created and very
encouraging response is received from Students.
• 11th Convocation of MUET took place on 24th of January 2009. Various
degrees ranging from PhD to bachelors were awarded. Once again high
ranking officials like President/Prime minister/Chief Minister/Governor ignored
our university. They found it enough to send a senior minister.
• Few students like Asha Aswani and Muhadisa Barat have submitted their
research papers in upcoming conference of IEEEP, we wish them good luck!
• Many students took their final presentation and viva voce exams and now are
Official engineers. We also congratulate all of them and wish them very good
careers. Those who couldn’t clear, must remember that life does not end here.
