RiteMED CLINDAMYCIN HCl

THERAPEUTIC CATEGORY
Antibacterial

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Clindamycin 150 mg capsule has an amethyst opaque cap


and amethyst opaque body.

Clindamycin 300 mg capsule has an amethyst opaque cap


and white opaque body.

INDICATION
For the treatment of the following infections caused by susceptible
microorganisms:

Upper respiratory tract infections including streptococcal


pharyngitis and tonsillitis
Acute otitis media and acute maxillary sinusitis
Lower respiratory tract infections including atypical
pneumonia, bronchitis
Skin and skin structure infections including impetigo,
folliculitis, cellulitis, abscesses (abscesses usually require
surgical drainage)
Disseminated or localized mycobacterial infections due
to Mycobacterium intracellulare or Mycobacterium avium.
Localized infections due to Mycobacterium kansasii,
Mycobacterium chelonae and Mycobacterium fortuitum
(usually in combination with other antimicrobial agents)
Helicobacter pylori infections (in combination with other
drugs)

Odontogenic infections

RECOMMENDED DOSAGE
Usual Recommended Oral Adult Dose:
Serious Infections:
150 mg to 300 mg every 6 hours
More Severe Infections: 300 mg to 450 mg every 6 hours
Or, as prescribed by a physician.
Recommended Oral Adult Dose for Specific Infections:
Infection
Acne
Bacterial vaginosis
Cervicitis due to
Chlamydia trachomatis

Recommended

150 mg every 12 hours
300 mg every 12 hours
450 mg every 6 hours

Duration of Treatment
7 days
10 to 14 days

Initially with intravenous (IV)


Pelvic Inflammatory
Disease (Inpatient
Treatment)

Prevention of Bacterial
Endocarditis in penicillinallergic patients

Pneumocystis jiroveci
(carinii) pneumonia in
patients with AIDS*

therapy
(Clindamycin
IV 900 mg every 8 hours
plus an IV antibiotic with an
appropriate Gram-negative
aerobic spectrum) for at least
4 days and at least 48 hours
after the patient improves.
Then continue with oral
clindamycin hydrochloride
450 mg every 6 hours
to complete duration of
treatment.
600 mg, one (1) hour before
the procedure
300 mg to 450 mg
every 6 hours
+
Primaquine

Alternative treatment
of multi-drug resistant
Plasmodium falciparum
infection**

10 to 14 days

Single dose
21 days
Note: If the patient should develop
serious hematologic adverse effects,
the dosage regimen of primaquine
and/or clindamycin should be
reduced.

20 mg/kg/day divided in
three (3) equal doses
+
Quinine or Amodiaquine

At least 5 days

Or, as prescribed by a
physician.
