    Solids, liquids, and gases are similar in that they consist of small particles that are in constant, random motion. However, they differ in the arrangement and movement of particles. In solids, particles are close together in a fixed pattern and vibrate. In liquids, particles are farther apart than in solids and can rotate and slide over each other. In gases, particles are far apart and move freely in all directions.
