We are very happy today that we are here for the
inauguration of Jubbaland Parliament. We are still at the
learning stage and we thank the President of Somalia, the

ministers and other dignitaries who have attended this

ceremony.

Somali President: What we have lost is a nation and the
responsibility of restoring it lies with us. As the Somali people,
we must forget about the past and focus on the present and
future. Like most people recovering from war, we have to
learn to trust one another.

This is a great day and for us as AMISOM, it is one of those
milestones, one of those achievements that have been
realized indicating where we have come from; that there was
no peace, there was a lot of insecurity and that today we are
talking about AMISOM intervention that has managed to
recover in Somalia about eighty percent of the area that was
clearly held by Al Shabab .

IJA REGIONAL ASSEMBLY INAUGURATED
The African Union Mission in Somalia has commended the Interim
Jubba Administration upon a major milestone towards the institution
of the Federal state, with the Regional Assembly inaugurated
yesterday.
The Interim Jubba Administration Regional Assembly was
inaugurated at a ceremony attended by the Somali President
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, IJA President Ahmed Mohamed Islam, the
AMISOM Force Commander Lt. Gen. Jonathan Rono, IGAD Special
Representative to Somalia, Mohamed Abdi Afey, Foreign Affairs
Ministers from Kenya and Ethiopia, among others.
The inauguration of the assembly was a culmination of months of
activity including election of the Members of Parliament that took
place in January and the election of the Speaker Sheikh Abdi
Mohamed and his two Deputies, who were elected last week.
Speaking during the ceremony, the IJA President Ahmed Mohamed
Islam thanked the various partners for the support extended toward
the formation of the Federal state and aiding the functionality of its
various arms.
We are very happy today that we are here for the inauguration of
Jubbaland Parliament. We are still at the learning stage and we
thank the President of Somalia, the ministers and other dignitaries
who have attended this ceremony, he said.
The Somali President appealed for unified effort towards
reconstruction of the country that is now recovering from two
decades of war.
What we have lost is a nation and the responsibility of restoring it
lies with us. As the Somali people, we must forget about the past
and focus on the present and future. Like most people recovering
from war, we have to learn to trust one another, said President
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The AMISOM Force Commander Lt. General Jonathan Rono
congratulated the IJA on the inauguration of the Parliament. He said
the African Union shares such achievements in Somalia, which are
indicative of how far the country has come and the strong strides it
is taking.
