damage the seat material. Be sure to
center the valve and do not damage
the liner. Relax the separation of the
flanges, install, and hand-tighten all
flange bolts. Slowly open the valve,
checking for free movement of the disc.
If valve opens freely, leave the valve in
the open position, and using a crossdraw sequence, tighten all flange bolts
until the valve is metal-to-metal with
both mating flanges. Recommended
tightening torques are listed in Table A.
Be certain to keep flange faces as parallel as possible during and after tightening bolts or studs. After final tightening,
again check the valve for full opening
and closing.
Care and
Maintenance
The TYCO Model BFV-N Wafer Style
Butterfly Valves must be maintained
and serviced in accordance with this
section.
Before closing a fire protection system
control valve for maintenance or inspection work on either the valve or fire
protection system which it controls, permission to shut down the affected fire
protection systems must be obtained
from the proper authorities and all personnel who may be affected by this
decision must be notified.
The owner is responsible for the
inspection, testing, and maintenance of

IMPORTANT
Always refer to Technical Data
Sheet TFP700 for the INSTALLER
WARNING that provides cautions
with respect to handling and installation of sprinkler systems and components. Improper handling and installation can permanently damage
a sprinkler system or its components and cause the sprinkler to fail
to operate in a fire situation or cause
it to operate prematurely.

Operation
The glass bulb contains a fluid which
expands when exposed to heat. When
the rated temperature is reached, the
fluid expands sufficiently to shatter the
glass bulb, allowing the sprinkler to activate and water to flow.
Design
Criteria
The TYCO Series TY-B, 5.6 K-factor,
Horizontal and Vertical Sidewall Sprinklers are intended for fire protection
systems designed in accordance with
the standard installation rules recognized by the applicable Listing or Approval agency (for example, UL Listing
is based on the requirements of NFPA
13, and FM Approval is based on the
requirements of the FM Loss Prevention Data Sheets). Only the Style 10
Recessed Escutcheon, as applicable,
is to be used for recessed horizontal
installations.
General Instructions
Do not install any bulb type sprinkler
if the bulb is cracked or there is a loss
of liquid from the bulb. With the sprinkler held horizontally, a small air bubble
should be present. The diameter of the
air bubble is approximately 1/16 inch
(1,6 mm) for the 135F (57C) to 3/32
inch (2,4 mm) for the 360F (182C) temperature ratings.
A leak-tight 1/2 inch NPT sprinkler joint
should be obtained by applying a minimum-to-maximum torque of 7 to 14
ft.-lbs. (9,5 to 19,0 Nm). Higher levels
of torque may distort the sprinkler inlet
and cause leakage or impairment of the
sprinkler.
Do not attempt to make-up for insufficient adjustment in the escutcheon
plate by under- or over-tightening the
sprinkler. Readjust the position of the
sprinkler fitting to suit.
Horizontal Sidewall Sprinkler
Installation
The TYCO Series TY-B Recessed Horizontal Sidewall Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with the following
instructions.
Install recessed horizontal sidewall
sprinklers in the horizontal position with
the centerline of waterway perpendicular to the back wall and parallel to the

Installation
TYCO Model EC-25 Extended Coverage 25.2K Upright Sprinklers are to
be installed in accordance with this
section.
Damage to the fusible Link Assembly
during installation can be avoided by
handling the sprinkler using only the
frame arms and the appropriate sprinkler wrench. Do not grip or apply any
force to the fusible Link Assembly.
Damaged sprinklers must be replaced
immediately.
A leak-tight 1 inch NPT sprinkler
joint should be obtained by applying a minimum-to-maximum torque of
20 to 30 lbs.-ft. (26,8 to 40,2 Nm).
Higher levels of torque may distort the
sprinkler inlet with consequent leakage
or impairment of the sprinkler.
Note: Install the Model EC-25 Upright
Sprinkler in the upright position.
Step 1. With pipe thread sealant
applied, hand-tighten the sprinkler into
the sprinkler fitting. Do not apply any
force to the Link Assembly, and handle
the Model EC-25 Sprinkler only by the
Frame arms.
Step 3. Wrench-tighten the Model
EC-25 Sprinkler using only the W-Type
1 Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 2) and
by fully engaging (seating) the wrench
on the sprinkler wrench flats.
Step 4. After installation, inspect the
Link Assembly of each Model EC-25
Sprinkler for damage. In particular, verify that the Link Assembly and
Hook are positioned as illustrated in
Figure 1, and that the Link Assembly
has not been bent, creased, or forced
out of its normal position in any way.
Damaged sprinklers must be replaced
immediately.

Installation
TYCO Model ESFR-25 Early Suppression, Fast Response 25.2K Pendent
Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with this section.
General Instructions
Damage to the fusible Link Assembly during installation can be avoided
by handling the sprinkler by the frame
arms only (i.e., do not apply pressure
to the fusible Link Assembly), and by
using the appropriate sprinkler wrench.
Failure to do so can lead to an unstable
link assembly and premature activation
of the sprinkler. Damaged sprinklers
must be replaced.
A leak-tight 1 inch NPT sprinkler
joint should be obtained by applying a minimum-to-maximum torque of
20 to 30 lbs.-ft. (26,8 to 40,2 Nm).
Higher levels of torque can distort the
sprinkler inlet with consequent leakage
or impairment of the sprinkler.
Note: Install the Model ESFR-25
Pendent Sprinkler in the pendent position (Ref. Figure 2).
Step 1. With pipe thread sealant
applied, hand-tighten the sprinkler into
the sprinkler fitting. Do not apply pressure to the Link Assembly, and handle
the Model ESFR-25 Pendent Sprinkler
only by the Frame arms.
Step 2. Wrench-tighten the Model
ESFR-25 Pendent Sprinkler using only
the W-Type 1 Sprinkler Wrench (Ref.
Figure 2) and by fully engaging (seating)
the wrench on the sprinkler wrench
flats (Ref. Figure 1).
Step 4. After installation, inspect the
Link Assembly of each Model ESFR-25
Pendent Sprinkler for damage. In particular, verify that the Link Assembly
and Hook are positioned as illustrated
in Figure 1, and that the Link Assembly is not bent, creased, or forced out

MODEL ESFR-17 UPRIGHT SPRINKLER
COMMODITY SELECTION AND DESIGN CRITERIA OVERVIEW
Installation
TYCO Model ESFR-17 Early Suppression, Fast Response 16.8K Upright
Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with this section.
General Instructions
Avoid damage to the fusible Link
Assembly during installation by using
the Frame arms only to handle the
sprinkler (i.e., do not apply pressure
to the fusible Link Assembly) and by
using the appropriate sprinkler wrench.
Failure to do so can lead to an unstable
link assembly and premature activation
of the sprinkler. Damaged sprinklers
must be replaced.
A leak-tight 3/4 inch NPT sprinkler
joint should be obtained by applying a minimum-to-maximum torque of
10 to 20 lbs.-ft. (13,4 to 26,8 Nm).
Higher levels of torque can distort the
sprinkler inlet with consequent leakage
or impairment of the sprinkler.

Response (ESFR) sprinklers having a
nominal K-factor of 16.8 (Ref. Figures
1 and 2). They are suppression mode
sprinklers that are especially advantageous as a means of eliminating in-rack
sprinklers when protecting high-piled
storage.
Model ESFR-17 Pendent Sprinklers are
primarily used for ceiling-only sprinkler
protection of (but not limited to) the following storage applications:
most encapsulated or non-encapsulated common materials including
cartoned, unexpanded plastics
cartoned, expanded plastics
uncartoned, unexpanded plastics
uncartoned, expanded plastics
some storage arrangements of
rubber tires, roll paper, and aerosols
For more specific criteria, refer to Table

16.8 K-factor Dry Type Pendent Sprinklers
Early Suppression, Fast Response
General
Description
TYCO Model ESFR-17 Dry Type
Pendent Sprinklers are Early Suppression, Fast Response (ESFR) sprinklers
having a nominal K-factor of 16.8.
They are suppression mode sprinklers
that are especially advantageous as a
means of eliminating in-rack sprinklers
when protecting high-piled box-in-box
refrigerated storage areas.
The Model ESFR-17 Dry Type Pendent
Sprinkler is FM Approved and has
successfully undergone full-scale fire
testing at FM Global, when used in conformance with applicable FM Global
Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets.
The Model ESFR-17 Dry Type Sprinkler consists of an ESFR sprinkler permanently secured to a sprinkler drop
featuring an inlet with both grooved
and threaded connections. The drop
between the inlet and sprinkler remains
dry until the sprinkler operates, allowing for a pendent sprinkler installation on a wet pipe sprinkler system
where the dry drop and sprinkler are
located in an area subjected to freezing
temperatures.
The Model ESFR-17 Dry Type Sprinklers are primarily used for ceiling only
sprinkler protection (i.e., no need for
in-rack sprinklers) and used to protect
solid piled, palletized, and rack storage
that is subject to freezing temperatures.
The water supply is provided from a
wet pipe system located outside of the
refrigerated storage area. The Model

NOTICE
Do not install Model ESFR-17 Dry Type
Sprinkler into any other type fitting connection without first consulting TFPP
Technical Services. Failure to use the
appropriate fitting may result in insufficient engagement of the inlet pipe
threads with consequent leakage.
Exposure Length
When using Model ESFR-17 Dry Type
Sprinklers to protect areas subject to
freezing temperatures, use Figures
2 and 3, and Table D to determine a
sprinklers appropriate exposed barrel
length to prevent water from freezing in
the connection pipes due to conduction. The exposed barrel length measurement must be taken from the face
of the sprinkler fitting to the exterior
surface of the structure or insulation
that is exposed to the heated area.
Do not attempt to add additional insulation around the barrel in the heated
area as a method to minimize condensation. This will reduce the calculated
exposure length.

Clearance Space
In accordance with Section 8.4.9.2
of the 2010 edition of NFPA 13, when
protecting insulated freezer structures
with dry type sprinklers, the clearance
hole around the sprinkler barrel of
the Dry Type Sprinkler and the clearance hole must be sealed. Sealing is
accomplished by use of the Insulating
Seal Assemblies (Ref. Figure 7). Failure
to use the Insulating Seal Assemblies
will increase the potential for the formation of condensation on the sprinkler and subsequent ice build-up on
or around the sprinkler can occur that
might damage the dry type sprinkler
and/or prevent proper operation in a
fire situation.
FM Global 2-0
Consult FM Global and/or FM Global
guidelines for allowable vertical distance from ceiling to centerline of
thermal sensing element.
Replace with the new sprinkler following the installation instructions in this
section.
Operation
Installation
TYCO Model ESFR-17 Early Suppression, Fast Response 16.8K Pendent
Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with this section.
General Instructions
Avoid damage to the fusible Link
Assembly during installation by using
only the Casing to handle the sprinkler (i.e., do not apply pressure to the
fusible Link Assembly), and by using
the appropriate sprinkler wrench.
Failure to do so can lead to an unstable
link assembly and premature activation
of the sprinkler. Damaged sprinklers
must be replaced.
Model ESFR-17 Dry Type Sprinklers
must only be installed in fittings/connections that meet the requirements
of the Design Criteria section. Refer
to the Design Criteria section for other
important requirements regarding
piping design, exposure length, and the
sealing of the clearance space around
the sprinkler casing.
If a sprinkler using a threaded connection (vs. grooved connection) requires
replacement, remove the sprinkler
using only the W-Type 26 Sprinkler
Wrench. Fully engage the wrench on
the inlet wrench hex (Ref. Figure 5).
Threaded Connection
Instructions
A leak-tight 1-1/4 inch NPT sprinkler
joint should be obtained by applying a
minimum-to-maximum torque of 45 to
65 lbs.-ft. (61 to 88 Nm). Higher levels
of torque can distort the sprinkler inlet
with consequent leakage or impairment
of the sprinkler.
Note: Install the Model ESFR-17 Dry
Type Pendent Sprinkler in the pendent
position (Ref. Figure 5) by carefully
raising the pendent sprinkler through
the clearance hole. The deflector of the
pendent sprinkler is to be parallel to the
ceiling.
Step 1. Apply a non-hardening pipe
thread sealant such as TEFLON to the
male 1-1/4 inch NPT inlet threads.

Hydraulic Design
(NFPA 13D and 13R)
For systems designed to NFPA 13D
or NFPA 13R, the minimum required
sprinkler flow rates are given in
Tables A and B as a function of temperature rating and the maximum
allowable coverage areas. The
sprinkler flow rate is the minimum
required discharge from each of the
total number of design sprinklers as
specified in NFPA 13D or NFPA 13R.
The number of design sprinklers
specified in NFPA 13D and 13R for wet
pipe systems is to be applied when
designing dry pipe systems.
Hydraulic Design
(NFPA 13)
For systems designed to NFPA 13, the
number of design sprinklers is to be
the four most hydraulically demanding
sprinklers. The minimum required discharge from each of the four sprinklers
is to be the greater of the following:
The flow rates given in Table A or
B as a function of temperature
rating and the maximum allowable
coverage area.
A minimum discharge of 0.1 gpm/ft2
over the design area comprised
of the four most hydraulically
demanding sprinklers for actual
coverage areas protected by the
four sprinklers.
The number of design sprinklers specified in NFPA 13 for wet pipe systems is
to be applied when designing dry pipe
systems.
Dry Pipe System Water Delivery
When using the Series LFII Residential
Sprinklers (TY2234) in dry pipe sprinkler systems, the time for water delivery must not exceed 15 seconds for the
most remote operating sprinkler.
Obstruction to
Water Distribution
Sprinklers are to be located in accordance with the obstruction rules of
NFPA 13D, 13R, and 13 as applicable
for residential sprinklers as well as with
the obstruction criteria described within
the Technical Data Sheet TFP490.
Operational Sensitivity
Sprinklers are to be installed with a
deflector-to-ceiling distance of 1-1/4 to
4 inches.
Sprinkler Spacing
The minimum spacing between sprinklers is 8 feet (2,4 m). The maximum
spacing between sprinklers cannot
exceed the length of the coverage area
(Table A or B) being hydraulically calculated (e.g., maximum 12 feet for a
12 ft. x 12 ft. coverage area, or 20 feet
for a 20 ft. x 20 ft. coverage area).
Installation
TYCO RAPID RESPONSE Series
LFII Residential 4.9K Pendent and
Recessed Pendent Sprinklers must
be installed in accordance with this
section.
General Instructions
Do not install any bulb type sprinkler
if the bulb is cracked or there is a loss
of liquid from the bulb. With the sprinkler held horizontally, a small air bubble
should be present. The diameter of the
air bubble is approximately 1/16 inch
(1,6 mm).
A leak-tight 1/2 inch NPT sprinkler joint
should be obtained by applying a minimum-to-maximum torque of 7 to 14
ft.-lbs. (9,5 to 19,0 Nm). Higher levels
of torque can distort the sprinkler Inlet
with consequent leakage or impairment
of the sprinkler.
Do not attempt to compensate for
insufficient adjustment in an Escutcheon Plate by under- or over- tightening
the sprinkler. Re-adjust the position of
the sprinkler fitting to suit.

Notes:
a. Requirement is based on minimum flow in gpm (lpm) from each sprinkler.
b. Indicated residual pressures are based on the nominal K-factor.
c. Centerline of the sprinkler waterway is located 7/16 inch (11,1 mm) below the deflector (Ref. Figure 15).
d. Minimum spacing is for lateral distance between sprinklers located along a single wall; otherwise, adjacent sprinklers (i.e., sidewall sprinklers on an adjacent wall, on an opposite wall, or pendent sprinklers) must be located outside of the maximum listed protection area of the extended coverage sidewall sprinkler being utilized.
TABLE A
RAVEN STUDIO SPRINKLERS
UL AND C-UL LISTING EXTENDED COVERAGE AREAS for LIGHT HAZARDS AND FLOW RATE CRITERIA
Design
Criteria
Standard Coverage Criteria
RAVEN Studio 5.6K Pendent and Horizontal Sidewall Sprinklers (TY1281 and
TY1381) are intended for use in light
hazard or ordinary hazard applications as defined by NFPA 13, utilizing
the density/area method for hydraulically calculated systems, and with
fire protection systems designed in
accordance with the standard installation rules recognized by the applicable listing or approval agency
(e.g., UL Listing is based on NFPA 13
requirements).
RAVEN Studio Horizontal Sidewall
Sprinklers (TY1381) must be installed
with a deflector-to-ceiling distance of 4
to 12 inches (100 to 300 mm). To meet
this requirement, the centerline of the
sprinkler waterway must be located
4-7/16 to 12-7/16 inches (112,7 to 315,9
mm) below the ceiling (Ref. Figures 13
and 15).
Extended Coverage Criteria
RAVEN Studio 5.6K Pendent and Horizontal Sidewall Sprinklers (TY1282 and
TY1382) must be installed in accordance with the flow rate criteria provided in Table A. They must be installed
and utilized in light hazard occupancies
only under smooth, flat, horizontal ceilings as outlined in the applicable installation standard recognized by the listing
or approval agency (e.g., UL Listing is
based on NFPA 13 requirements).
RAVEN Extended Coverage, Horizontal
Sidewall Sprinklers (TY1382) must be
installed with a deflector-to-ceiling distance of 4 to 12 inches (100 to 300 mm).
To meet this requirement, the centerline of the sprinkler waterway must be
located 4-7/16 to 12-7/16 inches (112,7
Operation
Water is prevented from flowing from
the RAVEN Studio Sprinkler by means
of a sealing assembly held in place
by operating parts secured by a link
assembly. The link assembly is comprised of two link halves soldered
together with an eutectic solder that
melts when exposed to heat. When
the link reaches its rated temperature,
the link halves separate and release
the operating parts and sealing assembly, allowing the deflector assembly to
extend from the body and water to flow
from the sprinkler.
Care and
Maintenance
TYCO RAVEN Studio Sprinklers 5.6K

The glass bulb contains a fluid which
expands when exposed to heat. When
the rated temperature is reached, the
fluid expands sufficiently to shatter the
glass bulb, allowing the sprinkler to
activate and water to flow.
Design
Criteria
The TYCO Series TY-FRB, 5.6 K-factor, Conventional Sprinklers, Quick
Response are intended for fire protection systems designed in accordance
with the standard installation rules recognized by the applicable Listing or
Approval agency (e.g., UL Listing is
based on NFPA 13 requirements). The
Series TY-FRB Conventional Sprinklers
are only for non-recessed applications.

SERIES TY-FRB CONVENTIONAL SPRINKLERS (TY363 & TY3630)
5.6 K-FACTOR, 1/2 INCH NPT, QUICK RESPONSE
Installation
The TYCO Series TY-FRB, 5.6 K-factor, Conventional Sprinklers, Quick
Response must be installed in accordance with this section.
General Instructions
Do not install any bulb type sprinkler if
the bulb is cracked or there is a loss
of liquid from the bulb. With the sprinkler held horizontally, a small air bubble
should be present. The diameter of the
air bubble is approximately 1/16 inch
(1,6 mm) for the 135F (57C) to 3/32
inch (2,4 mm) for the 286F (141C) temperature ratings.
A leak-tight 1/2 inch NPT sprinkler joint
should be obtained with a torque of 7 to
14 ft.-lbs. (9,5 to 19,0 Nm). Higher levels
of torque may distort the sprinkler inlet
and cause leakage or impairment of the
sprinkler.
Step 1. With pipe thread sealant
applied to the pipe threads, hand
tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler
fitting.
Step 2. Tighten the sprinkler into the
sprinkler fitting using only the W-Type
6 Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 2).
With reference to Figure 1, the W-Type
6 Sprinkler Wrench is to be applied to
the wrench flats.
Care and
Maintenance
The TYCO Series TY-FRB, 5.6 K-factor, Conventional Sprinklers, Quick
Response must be maintained and serviced in accordance with this section.
Before closing a fire protection system
main control valve for maintenance
work on the fire protection system
that it controls, obtain permission to
shut down the affected fire protection
systems from the proper authorities
and notify all personnel who may be
affected by this action.
Sprinklers which are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced.
Automatic sprinklers must never be
painted, plated, coated, or otherwise altered after leaving the factory.
Modified sprinklers must be replaced.
Sprinklers that have been exposed to
corrosive products of combustion, but
have not operated, should be replaced
if they cannot be completely cleaned
by wiping the sprinkler with a cloth or

FASTFLEX FLEXIBLE SPRINKLER HOSE
INSTALLATION GUIDANCE
Installation
The TYCO FASTFLEX Flexible Sprinkler Hose as shown in Figure 1, must
be installed in accordance with this
section.
NOTICE
Flexible Hoses are intended only to
connect sprinklers directly to system
piping (Ref. Figure 1). Flexible Hoses
cannot be joined together to form
longer hoses. Joining Flexible Hoses
together creates an assembly with
unknown performance that has not
been accounted for in system calculations or safe product performance.
Step 1. Review the Design Criteria
section that applies to the Approval
agency recognized by the authority
having jurisdiction, as well as Figure 3
that provides installation guidance.
Step 2. Determine the approximate
place where the sprinkler will be
located. The Support Bar is 700 mm
long and shall be mounted on the
600 mm width of the ceiling grid. The
sprinkler should be located as close as
possible to the center of the distance
between ceiling grid T-bars.
Step 3. Slide the Reducer Bracket
onto the Support Bar. Loosely attach
the Reducer Bracket and the two Bar
Fixing Clamps on the Support Bar and
place the Bar Fixing Clamps such that
the Support Bar crosses the location
where the sprinkler will be located.
Step 4. Attach one end of the Flexible Hose onto the sprinkler reducer.
Applying the wrench to the Slip Nut,
and not to the Flexible Hose, tighten to
a maximum torque of 35 Nm.

Design
Criteria
Nozzle Placement
Where direct impingement of water
spray onto all of the protected surface
is required by the authority having jurisdiction, Type MV-R and MV-R Nozzles
are to be spaced and directed so that
their spray patterns will completely
cover the protected surface with the
minimum required average density.
Both MV-R and MV-T nozzles must be
installed at a maximum effective distance of 0,75 m (2.5 ft.) from the protected surface.
Type MV-R nozzles can be oriented at
any angle on pipe sprigs (refer to Figure
3).
Type MV-T nozzles must be oriented in
the upright position on pipe sprigs (refer
to Figure 4).
Spray Patterns
Spray patterns for MV-R and MV-T
nozzles are shown in Graphs A and B
and apply to discharge pressures of 1,4
(20 psi). Though the Maximum Working
Pressure is 12,1 bar (175 psi), discharge
pressures in excess of 4,1 bar (60 psi)
Installation
The Tyco Type MV-R and MV-T Nozzles
must be installed in accordance with
this section.
General Instructions
A leak-tight 1/2 in. NPT sprinkler joint
should be obtained by applying a minimum-to-maximum torque of 9,5 to 19,0
Nm (7 to 14 ft.-lbs.). Higher levels of
torque can distort the nozzle Inlet with
consequent impairment of the nozzle.
Step 1. With pipe-thread sealant
applied to the pipe threads, handtighten the nozzle into the nozzle fitting.
Step 2. With reference to Figures 1 and
2, apply an appropriate size adjustable
Crescent wrench to the wrenching area
and tighten the nozzle into the nozzle
fitting.

Frequent visual inspections are recommended to be initially performed
for nozzles installed in potentially corrosive atmospheres to verify the integrity of the materials of construction and
finish as they may be affected by the
corrosive conditions present for a given
installation. Thereafter, annual inspections per NFPA 25 are required.
