March 2010 World of Wheels in Indianapolis from February 12th-14th,

6th Chapter Mtg. @ 9:00 a.m. Cycle World’s International Motorcycle Show in Chicago Feb 19th -21st,
Breakfast @ 8:00 Run for The Son now only three months away,
The daylight hours creeping ever longer each day,
April 2010 Ride Season is at hand!!!
3rd Chapter Mtg. @ 9:00 a.m.
Breakfast @ 8:00
Son Rise Riders we start meeting at Liberty Diner
16th-17th Seasons of Refreshing
this month, and before we actually made the decision to
make this our meeting home this year, Paula & I decided to
May 2010
“give it a try”. After living in Fort Wayne for 7 years we
1st Run For the Son
still had never been to eat at Liberty Diner, and I really
don’t know why.
Liberty Diner is snuggled right in between the
largest truck stop in Ft. Wayne, a couple of inexpensive
motels, and one of Ft. Wayne’s eye catching “Gentlemen’s
For more information on the events,
Clubs”. I guess it just didn’t come up on Paula & my “GPS
please contact: Jackson Lorence or
David Kirvan Date Night” listing. But, as Paula & I sat there on
Saturday morning, and read the paper place mat advertiser listing, We quickly noted that one
of the major Harley Davidson dealerships, and D & M Leather apparel were among the listings.
Then the owner of the diner came over, chatted awhile and told us how pleased he was that
CMA was going to be meeting there, & that when it gets nicer they will let us sit at the outside
tables close to our bikes. What more could we ask for,,, a biker friendly restaurant owner, one
of the busiest intersections in Fort Wayne, a truck stop, & strip club. Wow, what an immediate
ministry opportunity.
It also got me to thinking about CMA, and that we are not appointed to be a church, but
a ministry to bikers. God and our CMA leadership have charged us with “going out” on the
highways and byways to minister to the biker world. It also got me to thinking that at times
that may seem a little frightening to some of us that have always been raised in a church, or
church home for so long that we haven’t been a part of the rougher lifestyle for some time.
Are we ready, what will we say or do when we come in contact with that secular biker?
As I read Matthew 14 today, I looked at the storm we are about to enter, and that we
have two options.
Option 1: We can be like Peter and take that step of faith getting out of the boat. We may
even falter after a step or two, but if we really have faith we know that God will reach out his
hand taking us, lifting us, and will calm that storm.
Option 2: We can continue to sit in the boat, sheltered from the storm and watching the seas
crash around us but never really knowing what it feels like to test, strengthen and grow our
faith in God.
I ask for God’s hand to be on each of the Son Rise Riders this year, as we step out of
the boat and enter the storm. Let’s show the biker world the hand of Jesus, and introduce
them to him one heart at a time.

VICE PRESIDENT’S CORNER
As Christians we strive to do God‘s will. As a Chapter we need to seek God’s will also.
You don’t have to be a pastor or have a degree in theology. God tells us His will clearly in the
Bible. One such desire of Christ is found in John 17: 20-23

My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,
that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the
world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one
as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you
sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

Christ wants us to be in complete unity. This is hard with so many different

personalities in our chapter . Just a couple of things we can do to help us to be unified:
Communication is the key to keeping everyone on the same page. As Chapter officers we
will try to let everyone know what is going on, and if that is not happening let us know.
Having respect for everyone, the fact that we are all different is what makes this
chapter so great. Respecting ones differences will go a long way to making us one .
Love is the most important thing a Christian can have. They will know we are Christians
by our love for one another. Christ loves us even when we are not perfect; we need to do the
same.
I know this will be a great summer I can’t wait to spend it with everyone.

Yours in Christ,
Phil Brown

THOUGHTS FROM THE CHAPLAIN
Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In Genesis 2:21-22 we find: So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man,
and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place.
The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and
brought her to the man.
Valentines Day is February 14th. Don’t forget to remind the love of your life how much
he/she means to you.
A small child was caught on the 4th floor of a house that was on fire. At first there was
only a small amount of smoke but shortly flames began to erupt through the roof. As the
flames became higher and higher, the child came to a window and began calling for help.
A fireman started up the ladder of a fire escape to help the child, but the wind started
blowing the smoke and fire near the fire escape. It got so hot that the fireman started to
waver and it looked as if he would have to return without the child.
By this time hundreds of people were watching and their hearts started to quake at the
thought of the child dying in the fire, which he certainly would do if the fireman couldn’t
rescue him.
Suddenly someone in the crowd shouted “give him a cheer!” Cheer after cheer went up
and as the fireman heard them his courage and strength were renewed. He resumed climbing
through the smoke and flames and brought the child safely to the ground.
We may not always be the ones to rescue the perishing, but we can pray and cheer on
the ones who do. If we do, the Lord will bless the effort.

SECRETARY’S REPORT
I recently read the story of the Good Samaritan. I’m sure you are familiar with the
story. It made me think of the ministry CMA has to other motorcyclists. There are a lot of
“religious” people in this world who say they love the Lord, but will judge or look the other
way when a biker comes across their path. Dismissing them because of the way they look or
act. This story illustrates the way CMAer’s needs to respond when we come in contact with
other riders. Accepting them for who they are and showing them the love of Jesus anyway
we can. I would like to encourage you to be like the “Good Samaritan”, to be the hands and
feet of Jesus by attending the events we have an opportunity to serve at.
I just got back from CMA officer training. One of my duties is completing a quarterly
report for CMA National. The only way I can do that is if you provide the information
needed. Please let me know what activities you attend, how may people you pray with, if you
are involved in bible studies, if you visit someone in the hospital, or anything that is related
to ministry to others. You can do this on-line using the Event Form link on page 9, or filling
in the information on the sign in sheet at chapter meetings, or sending me an email. Thank
you for your help, I appreciate it.

Road Captain’s Report
A little over a third of winter is over, riding season is approaching fast. Will your bike
be ready when it is time to ride? Have you taken the steps necessary to ensure that it is well
protected during its hibernation season? Performing some minimal maintenance tasks, will keep
your bike ready to ride when the wheather permits. For me, I keep the gas tank topped off
with the appropriate amount of stabilizer in it. I keep the trickle charger plugged into the
bike’s electrical system and keep the tires off the cement. Taking care of your bike ensures
that you will have a safer ride and less repair costs.
We are having the mileage contest again this year so take a picture of your odometer
and send it to me. Send me your current mileage on the last Sunday of each month and I will
post the top mileage riders each month. So far, Hollywood is leading as of the end of January
with 40 miles.
We will be heading to the International Motorcycle show in Chicago on Feb 20th. Let me
know if you are interested in riding with the chapter to this event. Some will be going up the
night before and some of us are leaving Fort Wayne very early so we will be up there around
9:00 AM. We will spend several hours there and then head for home with a stop for a bite to
eat. The cost to get into the show is $15 at the door, you can purchase entrance tickets on line
and save $3.00. See the link below for add additional information on the bike show.
I hope to see all members at the chapter meeting this Saturday. Remember the new lo-
cation is Liberty Diner at the corner of Goshen & Coliseum. Bring along a friend — everyone is
welcome.

Do you know your MC Hand signals?

While riding in town, another rider comes up from behind you and repeatedly opens and closes
his hand, What are they trying to tell you? Answer: on Page 9
Update from Matt Sell
Do you know that our Chapter has it’s very own international
missionary? Matt Sell is a missionary to the Canary Islands.
Matt was home on furlough in part of 2008 and 2009 and be-
came a chapter member and a back patch wearing member of
the CMA. Let’s keep Matt, his family and his ministry in our
prayers.
From Matt: We arrived back to the field, Canary Islands, in
July and have jumped back into the work we have been a part
of for the last 10 years. We are focusing our energy in partner-
ing with the small number of established churches that there are
in outreach, discipleship and leadership training to reach new
areas and establish congregations.
Around a tenth of 1% know Christ as their Savior here. We
work mainly in a university town of 100,000, but connect up
with churches in 5 of the Islands.
The Vespa Club of our Island just formed in the last 6 months -
VESPA FRIENDS OF TENERIFE. We have a dozen plus members
so far and have a Saturday morning ride once a month. None of them
know Christ ... yet! Members own vintage to new Vepsas. Though
we have a Ducati & Harley dealer 5 minutes from our house, the ma-
jority of motorcycles are 125-50cc scooters ... and they buzz around
all over the place here. Mine is the #53 Herbie version Vespa with
the world's tallest windscreen! I want to develop a Herbie tract using
the 53rd Psalm.

Guys are making jokes & talking about the day's ride ... an hour
trip through the mountains to a seaside town. They do not have
any concern (or maybe any idea about!) safe riding in
groups. They would switch leaders, ride side by side, see who
could pass each other on the curving mountain roads, etc.! They
thought it was comical that I would leave braking space between
myself and the other riders. It is not boring! The Vespa Friends
of Tenerife took a break for a coffee before heading back home
together. Two or three espressos in a morning keep your senses
alert when riding.

Keep this club and each rider in your prayers. They are "nice guys"
who are so far from the Lord and show so little interest in spiritual
things. Pray that the Lord will use conversations with them (or even
calamities in their lives) to bring them to the Good News of Christ.

RUN FOR the SON
Yep, May 1st will be here before you know it. That means RFS is right around the cor-
ner. We need your thoughts and help in getting this years’ event planned out. We are in need
of an RFS secretary and people to help plan this very important CMA event. There is a planning
meeting the evening of February 13th. If you would like to help with this event there will be a
sign-up sheet at the chapter meeting this coming Saturday.

You say, you don’t know what RFS is:

Run for the Son is the CMA’s yearly fundraising
event to provide monies toward missionary
outreach. This is accomplished by each chapter
putting on a RFS 100 mile motorcycle ride. The
purpose of the ride is to bring awareness for
RFS and to raise money for the missions
supported by the CMA.

A Special Thank You to Ellen & Dave

We want to thank Ellen and Dave Hiatt for all of their

work with the RFS in the prior years. You have done an
outstanding job and we love you both.

What is CMA?

C.M.A. (Christian Motorcyclist Association) is a nonprofit organization that has more than 950
chapters chartered in the U.S. and is in 25 other countries around the world. The main purpose
of C.M.A. is to share the love of Jesus with other motorcyclists. This happens by attending
motorcycle rallies, races, and rides, etc., where the gospel is shared.
Once a year CMA (Christian Motorcyclist Association) on the first Saturday of May, all across
the USA and Mexico have a fund raiser. Each chapter plans a 100 mile motorcycle ride and all
the money raised goes to Missionary Ventures, Open Doors, the Jesus Film Project and
ministry to motorcyclists right here in the U.S.A. CMA is not a Christian Club or riding group
designed to segregate Christians from the influence of the world, but rather to help send each
person into the world by spreading the light of Jesus in dark places

For more information about CMA you can contact a chapter near you by locating them on the
CMA web site at www.cmausa.org

Son Rise Rider Event Form

The CMA National requests that members let them know what ministry they are performing
each month. Each Chapter secretary compiles the information and forwards it on to CMA
National. This helps the CMA to retain its status as a not for profit organization. So your
cooperation in recording your ministry activities is greatly appreciated. You can copy and paste
the following link into your computer browsers address line and fill out the information there
or print out the form and manually fill it out and turn it in at our monthly Chapter meeting, or
send it to our chapter secretary.
This link is for Son Rise Riders only invented by our very own Ben H.

Would you like the chapter to visit your church???

We would welcome the opportunity to come to your church and share what the
ministry of the CMA is about or just be there to show support for our fellow
bikers. If you would like us to come and visit your church please contact Jackson.
