1. Drum
There are three performances: corrosion, stress, vibration. Corrosion is
affected by material property and the condition of operation like:
temperature and detergent. Stress is also a performance of drum affected
by three factors: load, height and diameter. Mass, angular velocity and
dynamic stiffness impact on vibration performance.

2. Start button
The performances of start button are stress and conductivity. The design
parameter of stress is the contact area and the scenario is force applied

on the button. Besides, conductivity performance has resistivity for design

parameter, and voltage and current are two scenarios.
3. Transmission
DPU of transmission component has two performances: friction and
rotational speed. Friction has two influenced factors: mass and coefficient
of static friction force. Rotational speed is also the same the number of
impacted factors: diameter and force from belt.
4. Belt
There are two performances of DPUs belt: elastic and friction. Friction has
two influenced factors: mass and coefficient of static friction force. Elastic
has one design parameter is section area and one scenario is Young
modulus.
5. Motor
Motor is the main component generating the rotation. Three performances
of DPUs motor are electric power, torque and angular velocity.

Strategy:

1. The torque is the most imporant requirement and is the

first performance parameter to be determined as well as
the vibration. Then determine the angular velocity and
calculate the motor power needed to provide the torque.
2. The motor provides the angular velocity and transmit the
torque to the transmission and also rational velocity
through belt. Therefore, transmission is the second
component for design with calculating the mass (m) and
diameter (Dt) of the transmission. Furthermore, voltage at
the motor is transferred from the button, but it does not
locate on the line of main component.
3. The rotation speed of transmission is transferred to the
drum because the drum is linked directly on the
transmission. The design parameters are assumed, so we
can calculate the vibration (f), corrosion (C), and stress
((D))
4. Usability is not a component. The next candidate for
design is belt which connect between motor and
transmission. Force is transmitted from torque of motor,
and coefficient of static friction () and design parameters

have to assume to calculate friction (F f) and elastic () of

belt.
5. The fifth component chose to design is start button
because of the relevance to motor through Voltage (U).
From the assumed value of resistivity ( t) and contact area
A(s), Ampere (I) can be calculated.
6. The last component is water valve. We can calculate the necessary force
through the proportion of distance (X) and characteristic (K) of spring
