INTRODUCTION
NTC 1082 NETWORK FUNDAMENTAL

2NTC 1082 NETWORK FUNDAMENTAL

GMI provides a comprehensive and well-balanced training of practical and

theoretical. The institute offers a broad-based engineering education, with opportunities for
specialization and self-directed learning and development. GMI offers diverse training
programmes and services comprising full time diploma programmes, a pre-university
programme (A-Level), skills upgrading technical courses, train-the-trainers programmes, and
industrial consultancy and services.
GMI offers 3-year full-time diploma programs in Industrial Electronics (Electronics &
IT, Mechatronics, Process Instrumentation & Control, Network Security, Sustainable Energy
and Power Distribution, Industrial Plant Maintenance) & Production Technology (Mould,
Tool & Die, Product Design & Manufacturing, CNC, Sheet Metal Fabrication & Product
Development, Manufacturing System), German A-Level Preparatory Program (GAPP) and
Technical Teacher Training Program. Other services include short-term technology-related
courses, industrial projects and consultancy.
All GMI programs are industrial-based, and result-oriented. Throughout the years of
operation, GMI has graduated students in various fields namely design, manufacture,
operation, maintenance, fault analysis and complex production plant repair, machinery,
equipment, tools and manufactured products.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
NTC 1082 NETWORK FUNDAMENTAL

3NTC 1082 NETWORK FUNDAMENTAL

German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) plans to restructure the assignment of IP address

for all labs and rooms in each department. GMI has 3 separate departments which are
Industrial Electronic (IE), Production Technology (PT) and Research Development Centre
(RDC).
In IE, there are 5 computers labs that can be occupied with 60 computers in each lab.
There are 3 other labs that are used by all research students that contain 40 computers in each
room. Furthermore, there are 30 TTO rooms with each room needs to be assigned with one
IP address. All these IPs will be grouped into one subnet.
In RDC, 2 research labs contain 10 PC in each lab needs to assign an IP address. It
also has 5 PC for administration staffs. Both labs and administration office need to be
assigned in one subnet.
In PT, there are 3 computer labs need to be connected to the network as well. Each lab
will contain 20 computers. Use one subnet for all these three labs.
IE department and RDC department are connected with point-to-point Router
connection. From RDC to PT the connection will use Frame Relay connection.

GMI is given this private IP network address 10.10.0.0 by CICT. Starting with
subnetting the original address block of 10.10.0.0/16, fill up the following table for all
possible subnets using VLSM. Please show your workflow on how you get the answer.

CONCLUSION

In this PBL, we learned how to do subnetting with using the given address block
with using VLSM. We also learned how to use only one subnet for each department, which is
3 separate departments which are Industrial Electronic (IE), Production Technology (PT) and
Research Development Centre (RDC). We also learned how to use point to point router
connection and also Frame Relay connection while doing this task.

We have learned a lot when doing this task. We know that using subnetting can
assign IP address to each computer that needed the IP address. Then, we use VLSM to make
sure that we divide the IP address to the fullest and dont waste too much IP address, which is
costly in an institute that uses Internet connection, which is very expensive, considering that
how many computers in the institute are using the Internet connection. Thus, GMi can save a
lot of money.

Thanks to our beloved TTO Miss Melah for giving us an opportunity to do this task.
Thanks also to our friends that helped us to do this assignment together as a team to get these
results. Their contribution will not be forgotten.
