Dreis & Krump proudly offer the Series C, L, M and R CI-IICAGO Mechanical Press Brake
lines for intermediate range work. We call them TH 4 WITH MORE. These machines provide
maximum production of shcet metal and plate work at modest cost. Each embodies the most
advanced design, backed by almost 50 years of Dreis & Krump ingenuity and experience in
press brake construction. Series C, L, M and R press brakes bring you the ultimate in easy
operation, reduced maintenance, smooth, quiet functioning, and unfailing accuracy. On both
produetion and jobbing work, you gain the added economy of using the ideal machine for a
panicular range of work, instead of slower machines of hcavier capacity. All these machines
are similar in design and construction-the C's and L's long known for unexeelled performance
throughout industry
the M's and R's now bigger, heavier, incorporating higher tonnage
capacities. With grcater tonnage, extra dcsign features, an expanded line of optional features,
and a history of standout p{~rformance in hundreds of plant installations, Series C, L, M and R
CI-IICACO Press Brakes merit your serious consideration. Remember, they're THE 4 WITH MORE
more advan tagcs for you!

OF ENGINEERED POWER!
Double Reduction
Gearing and
Twin Drive
Double reduetion gearing is a
feature usually found only in
heavier capacity press brakes.
High speed g-earing is of thc
herringbone type for quiet op
eratioo and more efficient
drive. Thc twin dri"e, which
consists of two eccentric gears
rotating on fixed, alloy steel
pi ns, assures equal applica
tion of power over the full
length of the ram. Multiple
V-belt to flywheel is standard
equipment. Drivc motor is
standard on Series C and L
press brakes-ean be pur
chased separately for Series
M and R. Flywheel and drive
shaft arc mountcd on self
aligning antifrietion bearings.
Reversing control permits reversing the motor and ram in the
event of jamming or sticking due to improper ram adjustmen r.
Housing and
RaID Gibs
Tough, resilient non-metallic
housing gibs are bolted to the
frame. Abrasion resistance and
low eoefficient offriction make
these gibs praetically non
scoring. Wear is redueed to a
minimum, maintaining gib
tole ranees longer. The ram
gibs are of substantial length
and have highly polished con
tact faees. They are readily
adjustable for proper clear
ances and accurate alignment
of the ram.

"Bending capacity is based on 90' air bend on miid steei oyer a V-die opening eight times me/al thickness and with an inside radius approximately equal/a the
metal thickness, Any machine in the indiYidual series can make the bends giYen for the series, proYided bed and ram haye sufficien/leng/h. Tonnage of mids/roke
only is reduced on machines with greater than standard stroke.
Air Counterbalance
Air cylinders can be attached to counterbalance the ram.
These eylinders may be required when heavy dies or attach
ments are added to the ram. Counterbalaneing assures smoother
brake operation with less wear on bearings and gears. It takes
up backlash in the gear teet.h, and play in bearings, adjust.ing
screws and ram connections. \Vhen machine is used for punch
ing, air counterbalance relieves shock load.

Special Stroke
'vVhen extra clearance is required at the top of the stroke, or
for deeper forming, press brake can be built with a longer
stroke. With inereased length of stroke, capacity at mid-point
is redueed, while near-bottom capacity remains the same.
Requirements for special stroke should be submitted to factory.
10
Extensions to
Bed and Ram
(Horns)
Press brake can be or
dered with bed and ram
extended beyond stand
ard dimensions on one
or both ends. These ex
tensions give increased
die surface for longer
bends on lighter gauge
material. The extension
"horns" can also be
used for forming tubu
lar sections.
11
OPTIONAL
FEATURES
WHILE THE PRIMARY FUNCTION of the press brake is the bending and
forming of sheet metal, the die space, stroke, eapacity and width are ideal
for a variety of punching and notching operations. Multiple punching
on long work, or progressive operations on short work, are both within
the scope of the modern press brake. CHIC,\GO Press Brakes in all sizes are
available with several modifications in design which extend the advantages
of press brake punching to a variety of work beyond the range possible
with the standard machine. Some variations are shown in the accom
panying illustrations.

Permanently flanged bed and ram with the flanges confined to the
distance between housings. In this construction, extralong housing
gibs can be provided to give full bearing surfaces to the ram
throughout the entire stroke. This is especially important for off
center loading.
12
Special Applications
Various modifications in design can be made to adapt CHICAGO
Press Brakes to continuous production for many different spe
cial operations. The accompanying illustration shows a modi
fied Series C press brake with special bed and ram length .
