Lifeskill or Life-long Guideline of the week: Organization

2 - Students continue to work with fractions this
week. We are designing flags using halves, thirds
and fourths. Students will also be designing a
whole pizza and a set of pizzas with different
toppings. Students will be describing both of these
real world situations using fractions. Take a stroll in
our hallway sometime next week and take a look at
their work.
Remember to have students study their
Mad Minute facts for 5 MINUTES each night.
Quizzes are on Wednesday and Friday.
3rd- We are continuing our geometry unit this
week. Students are learning to identify, classify,
and describe two- and three-dimensional geometric
figures by their attributes. Come on by the 300
wing and take a look at our “guess my shape”
riddles! We will be finishing our unit towards the
end of this week and will take a geometry
assessment early next week.
Don’t forget, multiplication mad minutes are
continuing every Wednesday and Friday. Please
help your child study for at least 5 minutes each
night.
Journey to the Center of the Earth
We have are continuing our study of the
Earth, inside and out. This week we are focusing
on how earthquakes and volcanoes change the
Earth’s surface. We are also learning about our
Earth’s landforms and each tribe will become
“landform experts” and will be presenting the
landform they have learned
about to the class.
Earth Challenge projects went
home on Friday. If your child
has chosen to participate,
please encourage them to work
a little each day so they do not
become overwhelmed. Projects are due on
Wednesday, February 17th.
Once Upon a Time…
We are continuing to work on our fractured
fairy tales. Students have been conferencing as
well as sharing their progress
during Author’s Chair. We will
be learning new revising
strategies through this piece
such as, Show-Not-Tell, and the
pair-share strategy, 2 Stars and
a Wish. Ask your child to tell
you about their fractured fairy
tale.

*Our Valentine’s Day Card Exchange
will be on Thursday, February 11th.
We prefer that you do not attach
candy to Valentine Cards due to our
recent changes in AISD’s policy on sweets. Please
refer to the note sent home on Monday for more
details.
