Introduction

American football was invented in 19th century.

It's a very popular sport in USA. From professionals to
young children, it is played by a lot of people in
America.
American football is a sport played between two teams
of eleven players.
The main objective of the sport is scoring points by
moving the ball forwards into the opponent's end zone.

History

The origin of football may have been an ancient Greek

game called Harpstan.
It evolved in USA from the sport of Rugby.
The first game of American football was played on
November 6, 1869, between two college teams, Rutgers
and Princeton. It was played under the combined rules
of Rugby and Soccer.
In 1880 Walter Camp, also known as father of American
football, introduced the new rules of American football.

Field
The matches are played on a rectengular field. It
measures 120 yards long and 53,3 yards wide. Lines
marked on the ends and on the side of the field are
known as the end lines and the side lines.

Equipment
Players are protectively equipped. Their equipment
includes helmet, shoulder pads, gloves, shoes and thigh
and knee pads.

Duration
A Football game consists of four quarters of 15 mintes
each. There is a half-time break after the second
quarter. If the scores are tied after the end of the four
quarters, then the teams played an additional period of
time that is of about 15 minutes.

How does a game start?

A coin toss determines who will do the kick off to start
the game. Each half begins with a kick off. Teams also
kick off after scoring touchdowns and field goals.

How to score?
Doing a Touchdown is the most valuable as it's worth
six points. A touchdown is scored by runing into the
opponent's end zone. After touchdown, the scoring
team attempts a try( one point) or a conversion (two
points). Another way of scoring is a field goal which is
worth three points. A field goal is scored by kicking the
ball through and over the crossbars of the defence's
goal posts.

played his entire career as a linebacker for the New York
Giants in the NFL. He has been ranked as the greatest
defensive player in league history.
