Tacoma Rainiers (17-23) at Iowa Cubs (19-19)

LHP Mike Montgomery (3-3, 3.73) vs. LHP Erik Jokisch (2-1, 3.00)

ABOUT TUESDAY: The Rainiers managed just four

hits in a 2-0 shutout loss to Las Vegas. Tacoma
starting pitcher Forrest Snow tossed a seasonhigh 7.0 innings, allowing two runs (one earned)
on seven hits with six strikeouts. Austin Jackson,
Ketel Marte, John Hicks, and Shawn OMalley each
recorded a single hit for the Rainiers. Relievers
Rafael Pineda and Andrew Kittredge combined for
2.0 innings of no-hit ball. 51s starter Duane Below
tossed a comlete game shutout, only walking one
and striking out two.
TODAYS STARTERS: Tacoma starting pitcher
Mike Montgomery makes his eighth start of the
season and fifth career start (sixth appearance)
against Iowa. This year, Montgomery has posted
a 2.57 ERA (8ERx28.0IP) on the road, compared to
a 6.23 ERA (9ERx13.0IP) at home. He has a career
record of 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA (8ERx28.0IP) against
Iowa. Montgomerys most recent start against the
Cubs was on July 8, 2012, when he tossed 6.0
innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven
hits with six strikeouts. He has allowed only 10.32
baserunners per nine innings pitched this year,
the fifth best mark in the league among qualified
starters.

SAVING TIME: Through the first 40 games of the

season, Rainiers games have been an average of 23
minutes shorter than games in 2014. Games this year
have lasted an average of 2:38 minutes, compared
to last years average of 3:01. Only six of Tacomas
first 40 games have lasted three or more hours,
compared to 20 of the first 40 in 2014 that lasted
three or more hours.
HITTING STRIDE: As a team, the Rainiers hit .250
(36x44) against Iowa. Stefen Romero led the way,
hitting .385 (5x13) with a double and three RBI in four
games. Ketel Marte, James Jones, and John Hicks
combined to hit .256 (10x39) with four runs and one
RBI against the Cubs.
FRIENDLY FACE: Raineirs manager Pat Listach
and Cubs hitting coach Brian Harper both played
together on the 1994 Milwaukee Brewers. That club
went 53-62 and finished 5th in the AL Central.
SHUT DOWN: Tacoma reliever Mayckol Guaipe
has surrendered just one run in his last 13.0 innings
pitched after allowing three runs in his first 3.0
Triple-A innings. In that span he has lowered his ERA
from 9.00 (3ERx3.0IP) to 2.25 (4ERx16.0IP).

Cubs starting pitcher Erik Jokisch makes his

seventh start of the season, and his second career
start against the Rainiers. Jokisch has made two
starts at home this year, and has posted a 1.50 ERA
(2ERx12.0IP) in those starts. His only start against
Tacoma came on the road on August 25, 2014,
when he went 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing two
hits. The left-handed Jokisch is facing a Rainiers
lineup that is hitting .287/.435/.332 against lefties,
and only .247/.390/.306 against righties.

POWER DUO: Tacomas Ketel Marte and Jesus

Montero are first and fourth in the PCL in hits,
respectively. Martes .346 (55x159) batting average is
tied for the best mark in the league. Their combined
average of .331 (103x311) is 91 points better than the
remainder of the teams combined batting average of
.240 (252x1051), and their 44 combined RBI account
for 25.9% of the team total. Tacoma has not had a
player lead the PCL in average at the end of the year
since Troy Neel (.351) in 1992.

MOVEMENT: Fifteen players currently on the Rainiers

roster have been with the team since Opening Day,
and 18 of the players on the Opening Day roster
are currently with the club. Six players have earned
promotions from Tacoma to Seattle in 2015.

ACTION JACKSON: Austin Jackson began his

rehab assignment with the Rainiers Friday night
and has gone 3-for-13 with two runs. Jackson was
placed on the disabled list on May 4 with a sprained
right ankle. In 25 games with Seattle before his injury,
Jackson was hitting .242 (23x95) with 11 runs, two
doubles, two home runs, and four RBI.

INTER-CONFERENCE: Today is the first interconference matchup for the Rainiers in 2015 - the
next 16 games on the Tacoma schedule are interconference opponents. In 2014, the Rainiers went
21-11 (.656) in inter-conference play, including
sweeps of Oklahoma City and Nashville.
