THE 21 CENTURY NEEDS
In the last half a millennium, the role of a teacher has remained more or less the same teach a lesson, give out assignments, conduct tests to
see if the student has understood properly what they've learnt. But the question is Is that enough in today's world?
The other industries are getting disrupted radically, largely on the back of digital technologies, while the education processes and structures
have barely changed. We need to recognise the fact that Indian education system will simply become 'obsolete', if it does not meet the needs
of the present and future generation. The classrooms, whether preschool or K-12, needs more collaborative or participative approach with
teachers playing an interactive role that will humanise learning for the 21st century.
If they say that change always begins from the top, well then our PM Narendra Modi's Digital India & Skill India Mission has thrown up a great
growth opportunities for the Indian education system and also for the 500 million Indians to get skill training in order to prepare themselves
for a New India.
When we work with an adaptive education system to meet the needs of the 21st century, we need to ask questions such as What skills and
knowledge will be needed in the transition to sustainability? This year's theme for the Indian Education Congress 2015 is 'Innovation by
Uniting Change with Sustainability' Imparting practical learning that not merely educates but fulfills the needs of Indian youth, whether it is
for employment or self-employment. The objective of the Congress is to develop or re-energise existing educational institutions. It reflects all
three dimensions of innovative sustainable development i.e., Economic, Social and Environmental.

Organised preschool sector comprises 20% of the entire
education industry, with penetration rate expected to rise to
25% by 2015, due to the rapid growth of preschools in
Tier-III and Tier-IV cities.

Preschool business is expected to touch Rs 13,300 crore by 2015-16, out of which branded pre-schools are expected to
contribute about Rs 4,500 crore.
The number of pre-schools in India will reach the 33,000 mark by 2015 end, reporting a growth of 26% annually.
The revenue of the pre-primary education and childcare industry is expected to increase at a CAGR of 23.2%.
Preschools are a relatively new concept in India and represent only 1.5 per cent of the total education industry, although this is expected to
grow to 2 per cent by end of 2015.
The current market is clustered with the concept of next door playschool, making the industry highly unorganised.
Increasingly preschools are forming joint ventures with builders. Partnering with builders helps in imparting flexibility in the business against
high lease rentals.
Leveraging infrastructure and economic viability for maximum space utilization, preschools are leveraging the existing infrastructure to
generate additional revenues.

India needs to raise workforce participation from 58%
to 80% to be at par with China. Over 50% of India's
population under the age of 25 will lead to an increased
demand for quality skilled workforce
A VET Business Overview: There is need for advancement of VET business towards innovation
for future skill and business longevity. E-learning & delivering quality
teaching with new aids is the call of innovation in VET.
Government has set a target of preparing 500 million skilled workers by 2022.
Around 75-80 million jobs will be created over the next 5 years and 75 per cent of them will require vocational
training.
Over 50% of India's population is under the age of 25 will lead to an increased demand for quality skilled
workforce.
Currently, the market for vocational training is estimated at Rs 90 billion and the same is estimated to grow with a
