MULTIPLE INTEGRALS
13.1: DOUBLE INTEGRALS
Let f be a function of two variables that is defined on region R.
The double integral of f over R is defined by

Where dA dxdy or dA dydx.

Theorem: (Fubinis Theorem)
Suppose that f is integrable over the rectangle
R x, y a x b and c y d
Then we can write the double integral of f over R as either of
the iterated integrals:

Changing the Order of the double integrals:

To change the order of integration in a multiple integral, follow
these steps:
Step 1: Sketch the region of integration.

Step 2: Slice up the region according to the new order, and
determine the new limits of integration one at a time, starting
with the outer variable.
Step 3: Evaluate the new integral.

Sol:
It is clear that 0 x 1 and 0 y 2 x.
Looking at the graph, the lowest value of y
is 0 and the highest value of y is 2. Thus,

For x, the highest value is 1, and since
x 1 y , the limits of y is 1 y x 1
