Harper and the Blues embarrass

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sydney,NSW | It was perhaps his best performance since
leaving the Auckland Pirates. Sydney Quarterback Peter
Harper sliced and diced the Adelaide Falcons on the Blues
way to a big 30-10 win at Allianz Stadium. "He was the type
of player we have been looking for. He has big game
experience. Not just game experience but winning
experience. He is not an Ian Youngquest, or Patrick Gill, but
he has improved the team by his play" Coach Graeme
Eadie said of his Quarterbacks performance.
The Blues ran the ball primarily on 1st and second
down. The did well gaining on average yards each time. But
it was on third down that Harper stepped in and showed his
class. Mainly working out of a spread formation, Harper
worked the pocket and was sacked just 3 times. He
converted 10 of 15 third downs into 1st downs and this
killed the Falcons. His main targets were to receivers over
the middle but rookie Aaron Gela really stepped up today.
He caught 4 passes, two of which were great efforts against
physical coverage. Gela also scored twice.
Some said after the game the 30-10 score line
flattered Sydney. Adelaide did have their moments
particularly before and after halftime. Long drives produced
10 points and when Fullback Ben Donnolley crashed over,
the margin was 13-10.
But Sydney were always on top and the Falcons
could only match them sporadically. Touchdowns to Dane
Leatigaga and Gela opened up the margin and Mike
Williams finished the rout off when he kicked a 41 yard field
goal with 3m35 on the clock. "That was not who we are and
a long way from where we need to be" Coach Wayne Sing
said of his Falcon's team. "We need to step up. We need to
meet the challenge and be physical" he said.
