Intensive English Program

To Matthayom parents,
My name is Thom DeMarcky. I am from Berkeley, California in the United
States of America. I have lived in Thailand for a total of about 8&1/2 years, and I
hope to continue to enjoy this pleasant land of kind Thai people for years to come.
Before I came to teach in Thailand, I was an English teacher to native English
speakers in several high schools in California for a total of about 10 years. In
Bangkok, I have taught at 3 other schools at the mattayom level as well as briefly
teaching graduate students at Mahidol University. This is now my fourth year at
Bangkok Christian College. In the US, I have also been a gymnastics coach at a
couple clubs over the years, and I ran the gymnastics club at the University of
California in Berkeley, California for about 10 years. I still practice gymnastics
three time a week here in Bangkok.
I enjoy teaching Thai students, especially when they are attentive and willing to
work, and thus enacting proper care in advancing their education. I also attempt to
provide a pleasant and supportive learning environment for students who have not
yet seen the full value in improving their English skills. Generally I have found Thai
students to be very polite, although their shyness can limit their participation in
class. Please encourage your son or sons to be comfortable in energeticly engaging
in every learning opportunity offered.
I look forward to a productive school year with your sons who are in my
classes, and I believe Bangkok Christian College as a whole will prove to be an
experience that will enrich the lives of students here now and for the rest of their
lives.
