SUBMITTALS
Manufacturer's illustrated leaflets, catalogs and technical/photometric data for exterior and
street lighting fixtures to show that the proposed light fixtures are of the required type,
construction and quality.
Submit dimensioned shop drawings of lighting fixture installations, including but not
necessarily limited to, layouts and connections to panel boards. Submit fixture shop drawings
in booklet form with a separate sheet for each proposed fixture, assembled in luminaire type
alphabetical order.
Submit new lighting calculations if an equal alternative fixture (different from the specified
one) would be submitted. Additional lighting fixtures of the equal alternative fixture type
shall be provided at no extra cost to achieve the specified illumination level.

1.05
Project Specification
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Manufacturers: Firms regularly engaged in manufacture of the lighting fixtures of types and
ratings required, whose products have been in satisfactory use in similar service for not less
than 5 years. Preference shall be given to local manufacturers and suppliers/agents.
Installer: Firms regularly engaged and qualified with at least 5 years of successful installation
and experience on projects with lighting fixtures similar to those required for the project.
Exterior and street lighting fixtures shall comply with applicable requirements of SASO, BS
and IEC.
1.06
Deliver exterior and street lighting fixtures, lamps and accessories to the project site wrapped
in protective covering and store in a dry location free from dust or water, and in a manner to
permit easy access for inspection and handling. Lighting fixtures, lamps and accessories shall
be handled carefully to prevent damage. Replace damaged items at no additional cost.

Comply with the section 01 78 36.
SPARE PARTS
Supply as maintenance stock, additional ballasts, LV transformers, power supplies, diffusers,
lenses, covers and lamps amounting to one unit for every 20 units, but not less than 3 units of
each type, size and rating.
MUNICIPALITY COMPLIANCE
Contractor shall comply with specification and general conditions for lighting of streets,
roads and areas of the municipality having jurisdiction. The street and road lighting
specification of Madinah Al-Munawwarah municipality are attached with the contract
documents for guidance, however contractor shall obtain copy of all applicable specification
and standards from the concerned authorities as required on site or instructed by the
Engineer.
Any conflict found between this project specification and municipality specification /
standards shall be immediately brought to the notice of Engineer for final decision.

they will perform and the conditions they will meet in service.

Furnish all light fittings complete with internal wiring, lamps and lamp holders, all kinds of
control gear, LV transformers, power supplies, leads, trim, rings, frames, hangers and
reflectors.
Lighting fittings shall be of sizes, types, IP-protection degree and ratings as shown on the
drawings and schedules.
All wiring within the lighting fittings shall be suitable for the voltage, current and
temperature to which insulation will be subjected.
2.03
All exterior and street lighting fixtures including landscape, area, sports and faade lighting
shall be complete with all necessary accessories such as wiring, ballasts, lamps, sockets,
reflectors, mounting hardware, etc., to make a workable unit.
Exterior and street lighting fixtures shall be generally made of extruded or pressure die-cast
aluminum alloy housing with sheet aluminum, corrosion resistance type and top sealed with
fasteners and silicone sealant.
Optical systems shall be composed of polished aluminum reflectors allowing field adjustment to
the desired light distribution. Reflectors shall be adjustable and retained in position by a spring
loaded device. Lenses shall be clear flat tempered glass or acrylic. External surfaces shall be
smooth to minimize dirt accumulation.
All exterior and street lighting fixtures shall be dust and splash proof, conforming to protection
classification IP-65 or approved equivalent.
Any proposal for lighting fixtures, other than the fixtures specified, shall be accompanied by
complete lighting calculations and photometric data for the proposed fixtures.
Comply with the requirements of section 26 51 00 (Interior Lighting), for exterior and street
lighting fixtures, as applicable.
Any LED or linear lighting fixture used as exterior/street lighting fixture shall comply with the
requirements given in section 26 51 00 for interior lighting. All kinds of required control gear,
power supplies/drivers, LV transformers, dimmers, etc. shall be supplied as part of exterior/
street lighting fixture.
Ballasts and other components of the control gear of light fixtures shall be mounted on an inner
tray with a cover and retained in the closed position by two quarter turn fasteners. The entire
tray assembly shall be removable for replacement or maintenance. Some light fixtures may
require remote mounting of the control gear. In this situation, a detail showing construction of
remote control gear and distance from the light fixture is shall be submitted for the approval of
the Engineer.
Ballasts shall be of the ratings, types and makes as recommended by the manufacturer and shall
be capable of providing appropriate voltages and impedances for starting high intensity
discharge lamps at which lamps are designed.
All exterior and street lighting fixtures for use in hazardous areas shall conform to the
requirements of NEC chapter 5 and shall be appropriate to the classification of the hazard.

2.04
Project Specification
All lamps for exterior and street lighting shall be in accordance with the details shown on
lighting fixture schedules/specification sheets and drawings. The lamps shall conform to the
requirements mentioned in section 26 51 00 (Interior Lighting).
All accessories for exterior and street lighting fixtures shall comply with the requirements given
in section 26 51 00 as applicable and in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.
2.05
LIGHTING POLES/COLUMNS
Lighting poles/columns for exterior and street lighting shall have round, tapered, conical,
octagonal, or any other shape as indicated on drawings and manufactured of steel, with smooth
exterior surfaces. The height, bottom and top diameters and other pertinent information
regarding lighting poles/columns shall be as indicated on the drawings and schedules or as
required by the Engineer, subject to municipality approval.
Lighting poles/columns shall be supplied with steel plate base flange which shall include
earthing nut, handhole with cover and four galvanized steel anchor bolts.
Lighting columns of 20 meters height or greater shall be suitable to accommodate the mounting
of a movable head frame. The head frame shall have suitable slots which can accept floodlights
for the mounting of the number of floodlights shown on the drawings. The head frame shall be
raised via a portable lift. The lift shall use a motor device mechanism suitable for use in column
lighting. Power supply shall be from a single or three phase socket outlet, as required and
installed in the base of each tower.
Anchor bolts shall be smooth or threaded bars and shall be of a grade at least equivalent to the
grade use for the shaft and a minimum of 75 mm long. No welding shall be carried out on the
bolts.
Lighting poles/columns shall be capable of withstanding a wind loading of 130 km/hr blowing
at a height of 12 meters above ground level on the effective projected areas of pole, bracket and
lighting fixtures. Foundations shall be in accordance with the structural requirements contained
elsewhere in the specification.
Lighting poles/columns used for exterior and street lighting shall be unpainted. Poles shall be
provided with a wiring compartment at a height suitable for access and maintenance. Provide
fuse with fuse holder and an internal grounding lug inside the compartment.
2.06
Provide exterior lighting panels comprising circuit breakers, contactors, fuses, time switches,
etc. at locations as shown on the drawings. The panels shall meet the requirements of sections
26 24 13 (LV Power Distribution Boards), 26 24 16 (Panel Boards) and 26 28 00 (LV
Protective Devices).
The exterior lighting panels shall be provided with time switches and include a master ON/OFF
key switch with an indicator lamp located immediately above the switch to indicate the switch
is "ON".

Project Specification
The enclosure for exterior lighting panel shall have a degree of protection IP-31 for indoor
application and IP-54 for wet area and outdoor application.
In case suitable location is not available for wall mounting, the outdoor exterior lighting panels
shall be pad mounted. The cost of concrete pad shall be included in the cost of exterior lighting
panel.
All exterior and street lighting shall be either controlled through KNX system or a conventional
system employing mechanical timer as shown on the drawings and schedules. Photo electric cell
switch shall be utilized for continuously sensing the lighting level and triggering the operation
of exterior and street lighting as desired.
PART 3:
EXECUTION
3.01
INSPECTION

Examine the areas and conditions in which luminaires are to be installed and correct any
unsatisfactory conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of the work. Do not
proceed with the work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in a manner
acceptable to the Engineer.
3.02
INSTALLATION
Exterior and street lighting fixtures shall be fixed to columns on the ground prior to erection.
After erection of the columns and final cable connections are completed, each luminaire shall
be aimed in accordance with specialist lighting supplier's instructions.
The lighting poles/columns shall be erected plumb. Column locations shall be staked prior to
installation to ensure that there are no conflicts with other utilities. Conflicts that arise shall be
brought to the attention of the Engineer for direction in relocating columns at no extra cost.
Foundations for columns shall be based on manufacturer's data and shall be designed and
detailed by the contractor taking into account their location, corresponding soil bearing

capacities and wind loads. No construction shall be done without the approval of the Engineer
and municipality.

Columns shall be erected onto the foundations using a sling to protect the surface finish and
plumb checked.
Control gear located in each column shall include a cut-out unit with sub-circuit HRC fuse rated
appropriate to the luminaire(s) served and shall allow the use of a reduced size cable within the
column where appropriate.
Install cabling on the head frames of columns in weatherproof trembling of XLPE insulated
copper cable. All cables shall have numbered ferrules fixed at each termination position. Other
single wire cables shall be PVC insulated stranded copper of sizes to suit the number of lamps
on the circuit and shall be installed in liquid-tight flexible or rigid galvanized steel conduits as
appropriate.
3.03
Clean dirt and debris from all lighting fixtures upon completion of installation. Protect installed
lighting poles/columns and lighting fixtures from damage during remainder of the construction
period.
3.04
Upon completion of installation of lighting fixtures and after building circuitry has been
energized, apply electrical energy to demonstrate capability and compliance with requirements.
Where possible, correct malfunctioning units at site and then retest to demonstrate compliance.
Otherwise remove and replace with new units and proceed with retesting.
At the time of substantial completion, replace lamps in lighting fixtures which are observed to
be noticeably dimmed after Contractor's use and test.
Test all luminaires functionally to prove that they operate satisfactorily as per control
requirements.
Check and record actual illumination levels and compare them with the design requirements as
per applicable standards.
In addition to above, perform any tests required to comply with the procedures of municipality
for handing over the street/road lighting to them.
3.05
EARTHING
Throughout each installation, all conduit, trunking and metallic armour of cables shall be
electrically continuous to form a complete bonded system with the column earthing system.
Each column shall be connected to the earthing system by a stranded bare or PVC insulated
copper wire.

3.06
Project Specification
TRAINING
Provide instruction and training to the Owners staff for the operation and maintenance of the
equipment. Provide a minimum of eight (8) hours training to be divided between classroom
and hands-on training as required by the Owner.
Agree the training schedule (dates, time, duration of each class, etc.) with the Owner at least
one month before the actual training programme is scheduled.
