DIVERSITY NETWORKING MIXER


The Career Planning & Placement Center (CPPC) invites you to attend our spring Diversity Networking

fu comes into play. Must be working towards B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related

 Office of the Under Secretary of Defense – Summer Intern


The Director for Industrial Policy is offering a select group of interns the chance to work with senior
staff of the Department of Defense and the defense industry this summer. Make the most of your
summer. In the Office of Industrial Policy, you'll get to do meaningful, paid work in a unique place
where business and national security converge. The Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) is the
principal staff element of the Secretary of Defense in the exercise of policy development, planning,
resource management, fiscal, and program evaluation responsibilities. The Office of Industrial Policy
is a sub-element of OSD. The Office of Industrial Policy’s mission is to ensure that an adequate
defense industrial base exists and remains viable to meet current, future, and emergency military
requirements for goods and services. Intern projects will focus on activities related to the defense
industrial base, including but not limited to assessments of mergers and acquisitions. Industrial Policy
interns will be integrated into the office and get to work hand in hand with senior civilian and military
members of the Department. In addition to challenging and fulfilling work, Industrial Policy interns
may be given opportunities to learn about the Department of Defense and the defense industry

 Transportation Foundation of Los Angeles – Landscape Student Associate


This is a paid internship with the Los Angeles City department of Public Works, Sanitation division.
The intern will work on the city's stormwater management program and an interest in hydrology is
desired. The intern will assist with drafting, research, field surveys, writing, and general office tasks.
This position is for architecture students, and landscape architecture students are especially
encouraged to apply. To qualify you must be a currently enrolled student in your junior or senior
years or a graduate student. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA as well as the following skills:
Ability to draft; Good knowledge of Landscape Architecture site surveys; Good written and oral
communication. Applicant needs to submit a resume, unofficial transcript, and a 500-word personal
statement expressing interest in the internship, expectations of the internship, and career interests. To

 So. Cal. Minority Business Development Council – Film Production Intern ($15/hr)
We are in search of an up & coming, entrepreneurial-minded film production student intern to help
train staff members in the "advanced fundamentals" of lighting, sound, camera placement, direction
and using a green screen. Selected intern must be able to train staff on how to light a background.
How to light multiple subjects with varying skin tones in an "interview/news anchor" setting. How to
light a green screen. How to light a subject in front of a green screen. How to use video screen

looking to enhance the production quality of similar confirmed future projects. Must be proficient in
lighting, sound, camera placement, directing and using green screens. Must be EXTREMELY detail
oriented! Solid written and verbal communication skills. Must be available to work 5 hours per week

 Americans for Tax Reform – Summer Intern


We believe in a system in which taxes are simpler, fairer, flatter, more visible, and lower than they
are today. The government's power to control one’s life derives from its power to tax. We believe
that power should be minimized. ATR was founded in 1985 by Grover Norquist at the request of
President Reagan. Americans for Tax Reform offers the chance to work alongside some of the best
political advocates in Washington, as well as the opportunity for increasing responsibility. Interns are
assigned to work on policy issues side by side with members of our staff. As a key part of the ATR
team, interns work on projects such as the Taxpayer Protection Pledge (both federal and state
candidates pledge not to raise taxes), the American Shareholders Association (focusing on
eliminating the Death Tax, expanding Lifetime Savings Accounts and Retirement Savings Accounts,
and social security reform), and the Cost of Government Day, a report identifying and calculating
government spending as a cost to taxpayers. Duties include, but are not limited to, legislative and
political research, drafting policy briefs, writing press releases, blogging, attending meetings, and
assisting with events. Applicants must be organized, responsible, independent, and effective under
deadlines. ATR accepts applications from undergraduate and graduate students of all majors. Full-
time and part-time interns are paid hourly. The positions can be taken for credit through the
applicant's home university or college, coinciding with spring, summer, and fall semester dates. : Our
offices are ideally located at 722 12th Street, NW, in the heart of Washington D.C. ATR is Metro

UNPAID INTERNSHIPS
 Fingerprint Communications – Intern
Fingerprint Communications, a full service fashion and lifestyles firm specializing in Publicity,
Events, Marketing, Branding and Talent Relations, seeks part-time intern to assist in their fast-paced
Beverly Hills office. The ideal candidate must be detail oriented, independent, personable, and have
a strong interest in the world of public relations. Duties include, but are not limited to, talent relations,
compilation of contact sheets, organization/updating of press kits, assembling press clips, and
mailings. This is a truly unique opportunity as Fingerprint Communications has several upcoming
projects that candidates will be able to gain firsthand experience from through the preparation and

 USC Corporate & Foundation Relations Office – Student Intern (2 Openings)


The USC College of Letters, Arts and Sciences’ Advancement Office seeks two USC student interns
to assist the Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) staff in its Downtown Los Angeles office.
The Office of CFR is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of
gifts from private foundations and corporations in support of the Dean’s highest priorities. This is a
wonderful opportunity to gain experience in a robust development office of a major research
university. Our intern will enjoy a professional working space in a fast-paced office in the heart of the
Downtown financial district! The two interns will play an integral role in CFR— including
foundation and corporate prospect research, clipping reports on corporate industry trends, heavy
prospecting research trends on foundations, grants management and stewardship. This position
supports three CFR development officers, and responsibilities include everyday tasks such as filing,
organization, data entry, errands, scheduling, and some phones, but will also include a fair amount of
research and some writing. Course credit only. Work hours are flexible, but student must be available
at least 2 days a week for Summer 2010. Position starts after graduation, and start date can be flexible
based on your course schedule. Strong organizational skills, written and verbal communication,
ability to work independently, attention to detail, and proficiency using internet tools for research are
a must. Previous work experience in an office setting or performing administrative duties are a plus.
Graduate students and upperclassmen preferred, but will consider other applicants. Please submit

 Mayor’s Office of Economic & Business Policy – Undergraduate Student Intern


Mayor Villaraigosa recently named Austin Beutner First Deputy Mayor and Chief Executive for
Economic and Business Policy for the City of Los Angeles, a newly created position established to
revamp and retool the City’s approach to economic development, business attraction and retention
and job creation. Mr. Beutner’s appointment is the first step of a total refocusing of economic
development and job creation in Los Angeles. As Mr. Beutner assembles his team, he has identified a
need for smart, energetic students to assist in managing the office and supporting key projects and
policies. This internship is an opportunity for students to gain hands on experience working in a
political office and a real world understanding of the economic issues facing businesses in the City of
Los Angeles. The Intern will provide project support for economic policy initiatives. Provide
administrative assistance to senior staff of the Office of Economic and Business Policy. Work with
staff specialists in international trade, real estate development, small business growth, clean
technology sector, creative industries, banking and finance. Conduct research and synthesize findings
on an “as needed” basis on overall economic conditions, key industries, and local business news.
Must be undergraduate. Preferred majors include, but are not limited to: business, economics,
political science, public policy, communications, English, history, sociology and journalism. Must
have an interest in working with elected officials, government agencies and/or community based
organizations. Must be technological savvy relating to web publishing, social networking, and
graphic design a plus. This internship carries an expectation of 12-20 hours per week on a regular
schedule for a minimum of one semester. Potential for full time schedule during summer months.
This position is based at City Hall in Downtown Los Angeles. Convenient to transit, and parking can

FELLOWSHIPS
City Hall Fellows
City Hall Fellows is a non-partisan nonprofit national service corps training the next generation of leaders
for America's cities. Our 12-month, paid, post-college Fellowship integrates hands-on experience
working within the highest levels of local government with intensive training in how cities work. For the
class of 2011, we will be placing cohorts of Fellows in 3 cities: Houston, Texas; San Francisco,
California; Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Fellowship is open to students of ALL majors. A detailed
overview of the Fellowship, as well as application materials and instructions, are available on our

Class of 2011 are due March 10, 2010. The Fellowship year begins August 2, 2010 and runs through July
