This week, the motto was Your
People, Your Campus, Your
SCO as the Publicity Team
made its way around three
CPUT facilities to publically inform people about our branch.

less at the magnificent Hotel

School. Students of this campus were excited to greet and
hear about SCO as their campus does not pay host to such
activities.
Blue balloons were handed out
to Granger students each sharing a message of salvation with
an invitation to our services.

The first leg kicked off on Monday, May 26, 2015 at CPUT
Main Campus and saw at
least 95 new faces pose for the
camera. The team which innovatively decided to use a physical Facebook photo-frame,
making its way through each
faculty, including the Admin
Building, in seek

the hearts and
souls of our campus on its Facebook page. As
a launch of the

a number which increased
by 40 new likes since Monday

goal is to obtain 500 page likes

Balacing Lifes Demands

Lungiswa Langa
On May 15, 2015, SCO held
a combined academic and
time management service in
Room 2.70, Science Building
from 17:30 until 21:00. With the
theme Balancing Lifes Demands, the venue was covered with posters about encouraging members to utilise
their time wisely.
The service was designed in a
manner that both graduates
and academic giants were
recognised prior to the word.
Thandazwa Teketa also known
as Tash, who by grace, obtained eight distinctions during
her first year in Hospitality, was
awarded the branchs Top
Achiever on the night. Taurai
Muvunzi, Nathan Theunis and
Trinity Netshokotshoko accompanied her as well, as respective Academic Giant achievers
as they were all awarded with
certificates and medals for
their prestige. The Academic
Desk leader, Zandile Tys motivated members to do similarly
well in their studies.
Another agenda that took
place, was a talk show hosted
by Given Nkosi better known
as Mr. G. The show featured
former branch Honorary Presi-

dent (HP) and BSc Honours

graduate, Justice Ramakokovhu, our branchs most
enduring student and the
branchs top achiever each
discussing how they managed
to balance lifes demands as
a Christian student. Words of

encouragement like putting

GOD first and involving GOD in
our studies and while studying have passion with what
you are doing do not be discouraged by failure are a few
phrases used during this discussion. An attendee from Angola
also shared an unscheduled
testimony mentioning that the
discussion encouraged him
greatly as pursuing the right
career and succeeding in
ones studies was a challenge.
The talk show was a blessing

Its A Professional Thing

Joseph Bentil
On March, 13 2015 the Academic Desk organised our very
first academic service and
seminar, for the year 2015, with
the theme The Future Awaits.
Build Your Tomorrow, Today.
Members were requested to
dress up in their future work attire, as they did, ensuring that
we had a room full of young
professionals ready to take on
the world.

The service was divised into

two segments, the first being a
debate, this consisted of two
teams; the proposing team:
Puff and Nomveliso Qaqa
and the opposing team: Esethu Dlulisa and Sandisiwe Zito.
They argued on the motion
that says the success of an
individual is determined based
on the institution they attend.
It was a heated discussion and

Thaba, a UCT graduate and

Old Mutal-award winning
Actuary, graced us with the
Word, reading from Colossians 1:10-15. He reminded
the branch that everything is
about JESUS, even what were
studying. We should seek first
the kingdom of GOD.
both teams both fought good
points but at the end of the
day it was the opposing team
that had prevailed.
We also had a quick general
knowledge quiz after being
blessed by a testimony from
Melody Kanguru, who encouraged many in the room. After
all the fun was over we were
privileged to have two speakers of notably great success.
Our first speaker spoke about
the first steps to unlocking your
future career: the must knows
about a CV and an interview.
This was followed by our second speaker who spoke purposefully about the life of the
patriarch, Joseph (Genesis
37, 39 - 41) and all the trails he
had to overcome in order to
succeed in life.

SCOs Got Talent:

Puting the FUN back in Fundraising

Onesimo Rwexana

On Thursday April 30, 2015,

SCO placed the fun in fundraising with a fun service of
SCOs Got Talent. This initiative was

taken by the Fundraising Team

to raise funds for the organisation.
Fundraising is one of the
most important tasks an
organisation needs to be
familiar with. Part of the
fundraising was having

various cell groups perform

anything they are good at;
from singing, acting to even
dancing. This
accompanied
a spelling bee
and Bible quiz,
but before everything started
the event was
blessed with a
word by Taurai
Muvunzi. The
MCs Nathan
Theunis and
Solethu Saliso
then took the stage and
guided the crowed through
the rest of the program.
During the event, snacks
and food were sold. This
was done to assist in raising funds. People would
buy from outside, then get
in and watch. A great way

Worship Like None Other

Mvuyisi Jezile

On March 20, 2015, SCO Cape

Town branch held a spiritually
uplifting Praise and Worship service towards the closure of
the first term.

D i s tinctly composed of
mostly praise and worship, this
kind of service is needed once
in a while as we get to encounter the Holy Spirit in a different
way, as Psalm 95:6 says, oh

come, let us worship and bow

down; let us kneel before the
Lord, our Maker!
The program was rich with
a variety of performances.
We had a wonderful and
interesting poem by Joseph Bentil, our Publicity Coordinator followed
by a performance from
our very own choir, and
spiritual dance by Musa
Mahlombe. This would
then be followed by Worship Team leader, Nomveliso
Qaqa with the exhortation. Former chairperson and PEC Spiritual Growth & Transformation
coordinator, Mthokozisi Gwebu
then concluded with an uplifting prayer, a wonderful way to

was, if someone made noise
or wasnt participating they
were given a fine. As sad
as that sounds it was as fun
as well. People knew that
it was for the benefit of the
organisation and so they
participated whole heartedly.
I had a lot of fun, I knew
there was going to be a
show but I didnt think we
were going to pull it off like
that, said Nathan Theunis.
We normally have events
every now and then but because we know fundraising
will be of benefit to us it gets
exciting to partake in it,
Trinity Netshokotshoko said.

On
Saturday March 6,
2015, our branch took to Glen
Beach and Camps Bay for its
first ever Amazing Race. Traditionally known as the Annual
SCO Family Outing, the Projects
Team this year decided upon
making bolder, more creative
decisions by branding and designing this years branch excursion as an adventurous, beach
challenge, in which four teams
participated, each representing the colours: Green, Blue,
Red and Yellow.
Members arrived and were divided into various teams whereby a war-cry was required by
each team before the games
proceedings. Fruits and water

were
provided as supplements.

Rozina-Ann
Schroeder,
amongst five others, benefited
from a raffle held by the Projects
Team at the previous nights
service. She mentions her first
experience at the SCO outing
as an experience that made
her feel more welcomed. I
built friendships that day and
learned a lot about team building and communication.
Upon completion of the race,
her team, the Green team,
was awarded as the winning
team, leaving a gap between
the second-placed, Red team
and Yellow team which finished
third, whilst the Blue Team forfeited after moving off trail. Her

only comment in terms of victory was that respect is vital, [especially] when you try to overcome any obstacle with[in] a
group.
The day concluded with a
braai, this following a seated
session of introspection and reflection upon the days events.
Ive learned that two is better
than one cause there are things
you cannot accomplish on your
own and that our uniqueness
makes us beautiful according
to Spiritual Growth Coordinator,
Asandiswa Nkonyeni.
