Preparing, Training, and Recruiting High Quality Teachers
Preparing, Training, and Recruiting High Quality Teachers
Motto: No
matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the
Teacher quality matters. At a time when tinkering with school structures and changes to
accountability frameworks appear to be having diminishing returns to outcomes for learners,
nations around the world are placing a forensic focus on how to improve the everyday
practices of teachers.
On a general view, we understand that teachers preparation is reflected in students
results, and, of course in their future lives results.
There is no doubt that some systems and many individual schools are moving in the right
direction, paying particular attention to the power of collaborative professional learning.
As a good example of measure that has been taken, we can talk about the law No child
left behind, that demanded that by the end of 2005-2006 school year, all teachers will be high
qualified. Some of the most important requirements are the following:
1. To possess at least a bachelors degree
2. To pass a state test to demonstrate their competences in their field
3. To possess necessary skills for teaching English, Reading, Writing, Art,
Mathematics and other basic fields
4. To pass a test for each subject they teach and to obtain a masters degree in their
fields, equivalent in high schools
To increase the quality of teachers, U.S. General Accounting Office confirms the
existence of 28 programs in the Department o f Education which allocates funds for
training. In this concern, there are 81 programs that provide improving their preparation .
Implementing methods
Another problem that has been identified is reffering to students low interest in Maths and
Science. In this matter, American Education proposes the following solutions:
I.
II.
PROGRAM PLANNING
Where are my
students now?
Reporting
What do I
want my
students to
learn?
ONGOING
EVALUATION
How do I know
where my
students get
there?
Classroom practice
As a conclusion, we understand that the matter of preparing, training and recruiting high
quality teachers is one of the most important on which we should pay a very special attention.
Teachers represent an important part of the future, as they are creators of the future society,
or, as its being said: "Teachers are the first learners."
