Labour Criticise Mayors Re-launch of Council Newspaper

Just 11 months from the Mayoral Election

Labour councillors have criticised the Mayor of Bristol for resurrecting the
old council newspaper Our City just one year from the Mayoral elections in
May 2016 and without telling any councillors that he had plans to do this.
The glossy magazine will cost 34,000 and features the Mayor in five
photographs.
Labour originally started the magazine to help local people find out about
welfare benefits, local services, school places opportunities, housing
information,
Funding Our City was cut entirely by the Lib Dems as a saving years ago,
and was not re-instated in this years budget. The idea seem to have come
from nowhere The idea has just come from nowhere though clearly the
magazine has been worked upon by council officers for some time.
Several critics are suggesting that its re-launch less than a year before the
Mayor seeks re-election looks like more than a co-incidence. In fact political
campaigning using council taxpayers funding is simply not allowed. I have
to say the justification for launching a magazine promoting the Mayor looks
pretty thin, says Cllr Helen Holland, Leader of the Labour group of
councillors.
