Discussion Questions

1) In Acts 4:1-4 we know that Peter and John were apprehended. This was
the first act in the persecution of the Church since the resurrection of
Christ. What was significant about who apprehended them and their
reasoning?

Should we be experiencing persecution here in America? Should we

respond like Peter and John did?

2) Peter and John were questioned by the Sanhedrin being required to

explain their purpose and authority of their public teaching. Compare
his response to the previous chapter when he preached to the men at
the afternoon worship. How does the text describe Peter before he
started speaking (v8)? Was he submissive, authoritative or both? What
kind of message was this (v12)? 1 Peter 4:12

3) In v13-15, what does it say about how Peter & John were perceived
among the Sanhedrin? What did they conclude in v14 about what the
Apostles had done?

How do others perceive us when we speak of our faith or share the

message of the Gospel?

4) The council leadership admitted the whole city of Jerusalem had

witnessed the miracle. As a result of persecution, what was happening
(Read also 1 Peter 4:12)?

5) What was the response from the Apostles (Peter & John) after being
told by the Sanhedrin to cease speaking and teaching in the name of
Jesus (v18-22)?

What would you do, if today, if you were apprehended by the state or
federal authorities, thrown in prison and were told not to ever speak
about what you know of Jesus and the Bible? Are you a man of resolve
or indecisive waywardness?
