ENGINEERING ASSISTANT
Fiji Ports Corporation Ltd (FPCL) aims to be the maritime gateway in the Pacific region
through facilitating waterborne transport, trade and commerce. FPCL owns two major ports
of Suva and Lautoka and secondary port of Levuka. Also oversee the operations of other
local wharfs and declared ports. The company is currently seeking to recruit a suitably
qualified and experienced individual in the role of Engineering Assistant.
Duties
The Engineering Assistant is responsible for the ongoing satisfactorily state of maintenance of
all port facilities and other Fiji Ports Corporation Limited (FPCL) property in Suva, Lautoka and
Levuka port, reporting to the Port Engineer.
Job Description:

Preparation of schedules for inspection and preventative maintenance.

Direct, monitor and report on maintenance activities for FPCL assets (wharves,
buildings, roads, etc) in the port facilities of Suva, Lautoka and Levuka. Also monitor
maintenance expenditure.

Supervise external contractors for maintenance and capital construction works.

Develop, implement and improve quality and performance standards
maintenance work.
Design minor work.
Attend to breakdowns.
Reconcile invoices received from suppliers against company orders given.
Relieve Ports Engineers administrative matters when PE is away.
Assist with preparation of service and capital works contracts.

Essential Qualifications

Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering.

Minimum 6 years project management experience in the construction industry,
experience in maritime/port industry an advantage.
Has a good understanding of local and international construction requirements.
Good customer interaction skills.
Efficient and attentive - complete all tasks accurately and within given time frame.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Computer literate: MS Office (Word, Excel, Project), familiar with AutoCAD.

Qualification & Experience

Minimum qualifications include:

Advance Diploma in Civil Engineering or at least 6 years project management

experience in the construction industry.
Experience in maritime/port industry would be an advantage.
