Quick Configuration Guide


for
Altai A8 WiFi Cellular Base Station

(a) INTRODUCTION
This manual is to introduce a quick way to configure ALTAI A8 BTS through web-admin interface.
It is applicable for the following model, hardware and firmware version:

: WA8011A-A
Hardware Platform : R2
Firmware version
: 1.4.0.11
FPGA version
: 0x3e

(b) GETTING START CONNECTING TO A8 BTS


CONNECTING A8 BTS (PHYSICAL CONNECTION)
A8 BTS can be connected with your PC through Ethernet cable or wireless.
Through Ethernet Cable:
A8 can be connected using either the following table of cable:

Connecting A8 to a switch or a hub with RJ-45 Straight-through Ethernet Cable.

Connecting A8 to Your Computer with RJ-45 Crossover Ethernet Cable.

For the details, please refer to the Altai A8 WiFi Base Station Cable Configuration Guide.
Through Wireless:
The default SSID of A8 BTS is Altai WiFi Network 0. You could associate to this SSID when
you turn A8 on.
SETUP LOCAL AREA CONNECTION ON YOUR COMPUTER
For Windows XP user,
1. Click the start menu and choose Control Panel.
2. Click Network Connections.
3. Right-click on the Local Area Connection and select Properties.
4. Marking the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties.
5. Type in an IP address, for example, 192.168.1.2, which is under the same subnet as the
Default IP Address of A8 BTS (192.168.1.222).
6. Using the default Subnet mask (default: 255.255.255.0) setting at the first time.
7. Click OK when you finish setting and close the Window.

CHECK THE CONNECTION


This section is to run ping utility in DOS mode to check the connectivity between A8 and computer.
1. Click start, Select Go to DOS mode by typing cmd in Run.
2. Type command:
ping 192.168.1.222
The A8 BTS shall respond to your ping request if the connectivity is fine.

(c) CONFIGURATION WITH WEB-ADMIN


LOGIN
The A8 can be accessed through a Web Browser, for example, Internet Explorer (IE).
1. Open an IE session and type the default IP address of the A8 BTS as http://192.168.1.222
2. Click Yes in the security alert pop-up window.
3. A window will pop up. Input the default username and password. Please be reminded that
username and password are case sensitive.

4. A Menu Bar is located on the left hand side of the front page of web-admin window.
PARAMETER CHANGE
5. Click 2.4GHz Radio under System, you could configure IP address, Subnet, Gateway, etc
You need to click update to save the change (but the change has not been effective yet).
6. Click 2.4GHz Radio under Configuration, you could configure Radio Frequency (i.e.
Channel), SSID, transmit power, etc Again, you need to click update to save the change.
7. Click Reboot under System then click Reboot Base Station to make the change to be effective.
The A8 BTS will take about 20 seconds for startup.
