It is the 22nd of December. 16 years have passed since the revolution and
Christmas is once again about to come. In a small town, Pişcoci, an old
retired man, is preparing for another lonely Christmas. Mănescu, the his-
tory teacher, tries to keep up with his debts. Jderescu, the owner of a local
television post, seems to be less interested in the upcoming holidays. For
him, the time to face history has come. Along with Mănescu and Pişcoci,
he is trying to find an answer to a 16 year old question: “Was there or
wasn’t there a revolution in their town?”

During the 80’s, Radio Free Europe was the secret relief and confidant of
its Romanian listeners. The Radio was Ceausescu’s most important en-

More than three years ago, Alexandra, Maria and Alexei’s mother left their
poor village in Moldavia to go looking for work. She was supposed to re-
turn two years later, but she still hasn’t come back. Things are hard for the
children’s father Costica. Running his modest farm is trouble enough, but
he also has to play the roles of both father and mother... Flower Bridge fol-
lows the motherless family over the course of several months. Their daily
life is affectionately captured and interspersed with footage of the tranquil
farming village and the hilly surroundings, where winter slowly is making
room for spring.
