From Room 26
Assembly
This term we have been practising a heap for our Room 26 Assembly. We chose the
theme Kid President. We did quotes in Club Smash Posters. We also sang two
songs, Titanium and Say Something, and a poem by Kid President called Keep
Going Keep Going Keep Going. It was really cool a the end as we got all of the
school to get up and danced to the Minion version of Happy by Pherell Williams.
We loved Kid President because he tells everybody to be Awesome and says a lot
more but my favourite is Dont stop believing unless your dream is stupid!.

Animations
When Mrs McIntosh showed the class a 450 slide animation all of the class loved it
and the class got to do an animation.. I thought of an idea to make a sun rise
and make it go down and then at the end it pops up with a scary face and show
everyone. Animations take a while to make because you have to move a tiny bit at
a time. Also Peter and I are planning a movie in slides.
Carson
Journaling
This year we have been doing journaling on a Friday, which is my favourite day of
the week!! We are allowed to use edicol dye, paint and pencils to do works of art in
our journal, with or without stencils. Today I am going to ask Miss Bunney if I can
collect leaves and spray edicol over them. It will look awesome. Back to journaling,
it is fun, exciting and creative, and I LOVE it!!

School Assembly
Congratulations to Room 26 for an AWESOME Assembly that was full of
fun and surprises and included: Working hard as an awesome team;
Some awesome lifelong messages for everyone; Awesome uniforms;
Singing difficult but awesome songs; Reciting an awesome poem; Using
the word awesome in an awesome amount of ways; Making everyone
dance an awesome dance; Having an awesome time together
entertaining everyone. Room 26 You are truly Awesome!
The next assembly is on Friday 12June at 9.00 am and will be hosted by
Room 15 Year 3. All family and friends are invited to attend.
K P Nature Playground
Thank you to the small group of parents and teachers who banded
together to develop our very sparse ECE playground into a wonderful
dynamic nature playground that boasts bumpy roads to ride bikes and
scooters on, bridges to ride over, shops to stop and buy from, a dry creek
bed (wet when it rains) to jump over, a water tank to supply the creek of
course, rocks to balance on or leap over, outside blackboards to write on,
a pirate ship to plunder and plants to add colour and greenery to the mix.
It has been a pleasure to watch our K P students explore, discover and

Disco
Last night the P&C ran a very successful Denim Disco Night using a new
format K6. A great time was had by all. Thanks must go to the
organising P&C Committee, Chaplain Steve Fisher (Music, Smoke
Machine, general ambiance), Mr Steve Freeman (BBQ) who all did their
bit to make this an very enjoyable event for all our Yakamia disco
dancers! Thanks a million.
Councillors
Kudos must go to our great team of Councillors and Faction Captains that
have set up and run a great soccer competition for the Year 4, 5 and 6
students over the last few weeks. They have been true leaders and we
commend them for their initiative. We also thank those students who have
spent their own time in making sure that each class
sports equipment allocations are in good order and in
the right classroom. Well done!

School News
Spotlight on Block 1
Block 1 (Yrs 2, 3 and some Yr 4 students) at Yakamia have been very
busy indeed over the last six weeks. They have been busily learning
about adjectives and writing compound sentences using adjectives they
have discovered resulting in some amazing writing. Rm 11 : Have been
writing about their favourite weather day and season to practice their
compound sentences and adjectives. Gwenith wrote. I love Spring
because it doesnt rain. Spring has beautiful trees everywhere and has
lots of flowers and birds.Rm 12: Have been exploring Picture of the
Week. So far they have done some outstanding work on celebrations,
pets and face painting and are soon to launch into Australian animals. Rm
12 parents have also enjoyed helping with these activities. Along with Rm
13, Rm 12 have entered an art competition called Families Working
Together. Rm 13: Have been investigating the Life Cycle of Frogs and
are soon to welcome some baby tadpoles into the classroom. They have
been concentrating on Persuasive Writing and have done some stunning

boab tree art work as part of study on reconciliation. Rm 14: Have been
working hard with Mr Fisher particularly on Sentence of the Day and
answering reading questions in full sentences. Hint: Did you know about
border punctuation? Protect your sentence with a capital and a full stop.
(border) They have also been studying Countries of the world starting with
Italy and Ireland. Rm 15: Have been playing the Silly Sentence Game
where each person selects four cards from a noun (objects), adjective,
verb, Noun (animals/people) pile and use each word to make a sentence.
Then they join their sentence with a partner to make a silly compound
sentence. Room 16: Drew a symmetrical picture of a face in art and then
used adjectives in simple and compound sentences to describe the new
face. They also wrote a journal identifying and using nouns, adjectives,
verbs and adverbs. Mrs MacIntosh showed Rm 16 students how to match
appropriate nouns to adjectives using the iPad Seesaw app.
