SEEKING GOD'S PRESENCE

21 DAYS OF PRAYER AND FASTING
5TH - 25TH JUNE 2014
Guiding scriptures: 2nd Chronicles 7:14; Psalm 139; Psalm 15
WHAT IS FASTING?

Matthew 6:16-18 says and when you fast, dont make it obvious, as the hypocrites

do, who try to look pale and disheveled so people will admire them for fasting.
I assure you, that is the only reward they will ever get. But when you fast, comb
your hair and wash your face. Then no one will suspect you are fasting, except
your father, who knows what you do in secret. And your Father, who knows all
your secrets, will reward you.

Fasting is a means in which we rid ourselves of distractions so we can concentrate

exclusively on God. We become more mindful of our dependence on God by presenting
ourselves to Him. Its a time to humble ourselves before God by acknowledging His
rights in all areas of our lives. This is a time we intensify our prayer life by getting into a
spiritual warfare as we face impossible situations. I would encourage you that during
this time you listen more to God as you spend time in His presence.

Key things to note as you fast

1.

Confess your sins, weaknesses and wounds before God. Tell God to forgive
you for areas you have not pleased God, to strengthen you in the areas of your
weakness and to bring healing in areas you have been hurt. This should be done
every day of your fast. Psalms 139
2. Pour your heart with its deep concerns for yourself and for others.
3. Ask God to guide you on how to pray regarding certain areas and to give you
directions
4. Wait on God. Dont be in a hurry. Tell God to teach you how to be still and quiet
before Him. Journal your thoughts down and anything you feel like God is saying
to you

WHAT TYPE OF FAST

We will be doing a partial fast, skipping two meals a day during the twenty one days.
You are free to choose which meal i.e. either breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner.
We however encourage those who can, to do a normal fast (6am to 6pm), as the Lord
enables them.

HOW TO FAST:
Set aside time each day for prayer. Remember to fast without prayer is nothing more
than a hunger strike that is not what we want to do before God. So gear up your
prayer times, maybe a little earlier each morning, and watch them. Instead, you may
want to go to work early each morning, lock your office door and spend 20 minutes
in prayer before work, another 20 minutes at lunch-break and a final 20 minutes at
dinner or before you slumber.

HOW TO MANAGE YOUR FAST

During the fast, you may feel somewhat weaker than normal, especially the first
few days; you may feel tired and irritable or even get headaches. Lightening your
workload and cutting down on strenuous exercises is advisable for maintaining your
health and morale.

Outline of the prayer guide

The first one week we will be focusing on our personal lives and family. The second
week we will be focusing on the church and the third week we will turn our focus on
the nation. We are basically going to seek Gods presence in all these areas because
they affect us in one way or another. The theme for this year as a church is evangelism
and so let us spend time calling our family members that do not know God in His
saving grace. Let us call this nation back to God, Ps. 33:12.
The great commission of the church was to make disciples of all nations Matthew
28:19. Somehow the church has forgotten that commission. Let us pray that we go
back to this place. Pray that God prepares your heart as you plan to enter into this
space of seeking God. May God hear us from heaven and forgive our sins and heal
our land. Amen

7.

Repent of denying Gods love for you and allowing the enemy, Satan, to mold you
into the image of this world, where you have denied the Cross of Jesus Christ.
8. Thank God for His forgiveness of your sin.
9. Pray that the LORD will bring back to your mind, areas you need to do more than
repent. Ask Him to show you where you need to restore returning that which
you took without permission, no matter how small. Pray for the restitution of
that which has been taken away from the nation restitution by leaders who
abused their position and have used national resources for their own gain. Ask
the LORD to cause restitution to be done to you where you were swindled or
someone stole what belongs to you, even what you are not aware of (spiritually
or physically). Pray that they shall return it back in full measure.

Day 3: Wednesday 7th May 2014 - Repentance for your

family members
1.
2.

3.
4.
5.

6.

Confess the sins your family members may have committed. Repent on their
behalf just as Job had done. Job 1:4-5
Deuteronomy 5:9-10: You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I,
the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the
parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love
to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Repent of any Spirit of competitiveness, resentment, greed and strife present in
the family that affects the peace and unity of the family
Repent, for areas we have dishonored our parents or guardians and turned our
backs on them. Ephesians 6:1-3
Repent against pride and rebellion. 1 Samuel 15:23 speaks of rebellion being like
the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Pray against these
things in your family that lead to rejection of the Lord.
Repent against spiritual doors that have been opened to the family through
various practices and mediums for example palm reading, witchcraft, horoscopes,
walking on fire, telepathy, cultic movies and literature. Seemingly innocent
cartoons are not godly and all innocence is lost as the young ones watch them.
Pray against these things. Ask the Lord to close any doors that may have been
opened and lead your family into new decisions that will honor Him instead.
Leviticus 19: 31 Do not practice divination or seek omens. Do not turn to mediums

or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.

Day 4: Thursday 8th May 2014-Breaking of generational

curses in your life and family
Deuteronomy 5:9-10: You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD
your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third
and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations
of those who love me and keep my commandments.
1.
2.
3.

4.
5.

Break generational curses or negative works spoken that may have been passed
down in your family
Renounce any negative word spoken over your life and your family members.
People are held back from fulfilling their purpose and achieving their destiny due
to generational curses, bondages and patterns that are evident from generation
to generation such as alcoholism, drunkenness, childlessness, poverty, addictions
etc.
Begin to identify these things in your family with the help of God and break them
through prayer. God is a mighty warrior and He is on your side.
