Course Description: This course primarily deals with the study of the principles
and strategies in translating the texts of English to another language, preferably to
Filipino or vice versa together with the applications of the rules of discourse and
rhetoric in editing various types of written materials.
General Objectives
At the end of the school term, the students shall be able to:
1. Learn the proper application of the rules on punctuation, capitalization,
italicization, numbering, syllabication and abbreviation.
2. Observe properly the principles and strategies in translating the
vernacular into English or vice versa.
3. Apply correctly the proofreading symbols with respect to editing written
works.
4. Apply the rules of written and oral form of discourse and rhetoric in
English and in Filipino.
5. Get acquainted with the nature of heteronyms, homonyms, homophones,
antonyms, and synonyms.
6. Translate appropriately and functionally the common idioms and idiomatic
expressions into Filipino or vice versa.
7. Translate with propriety the common figures of speech and other English
terminologies into Filipino or Vice versa.
Grade for the semester will be computed as follows:
