JOB POSTING
The Centre for Child and the Law (CCL), National Law School of India University (NLSIU),
Bangalore is seeking a Research Associate (Legal) Juvenile Justice Programme for a Full time
position) to work on the issues related to the child protection and juvenile justice.
About the Centre for Child and the Law (CCL), NLSIU
The Centre for Child and the Law is a research centre of the National Law School of India
University, (NLSIU), whose mission is to institutionalize a child rights culture in the society. CCL
works with the objective to empower and enable increased assertion from children as rights holders
in order to enable them to effectively claim their rights, contribute to policy, law and practice on
child rights, enable compliance with the Constitution of India, the UN Convention on the Rights of
the Child (UN CRC) and other normative standards. In addition, integrate Teaching, Research and
Direct Field Action on child rights law, build replicable demonstrable projects that will impact
policy, law and practice on child rights, and advocate, lobby and network, by working with the
government and other National and International Institutions to bring in the policy, law and systemic
reforms that are relevant and appropriate with the changing external environment/times on child
rights.
Thrust programmatic areas include Child Protection, Juvenile Justice, Universalisation of Quality
Equitable School Education, Right to Food, Child labour. The Centre also works on issues such as
Human Rights Institutions for Children and Child Sexual Abuse, as well as overarching activities
that mutually reinforce the interdependency of the rights frame work. CCL-NLSIU encourages a

Number and duration of position available:
One Full time position (1) - i.e. Research Associate (Legal) Juvenile Justice Programme is
available for a period of two and half years, beginning immediately post the selection process, and
ending in December 2017.
POSITION: Research Associate (Legal), Juvenile Justice Programme
Qualification
Essential: Bachelors in Law
Preferred: Additional qualifications in the area of child rights/research methodology
Experience
Essential: Experience in research and writing in any human rights issues
Preferred: Experience in research and or practice in the field of child rights law
Language and Computer Skills
Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
Proficiency in use of Computers, specifically MS Word
Basic knowledge of Kannada preferable

Roles & Responsibilities


Responsible for planning, overseeing and completing various research assignments assigned.
Responsible for undertaking short term and long term research work to assess and evaluate
various laws, policy programs and other related interventions at State and National Level on
child protection and juvenile justice
Responsible to undertake policy research on various laws, policies and programmes related to
child protection and juvenile justice programme
Responsible for maintaining all research records, reports and correspondence related to work
Assist in the development, organization and delivery of Capacity Building Programmes
Skills
Ability to develop, oversee and/or improve quantitative research procedures, including study
design, sampling, statistical procedures, minimization of threats to internal validity,
maximization of generalizability
Ability to guide and lead research projects at various levels
Ability to write qualitative Research Reports based on the research assignments
Location
CCL office at NLSIU campus in Nagarbhavi and the Observation Home premises, Madivala,
Bengaluru
SELECTION CRITERIA FOR THE POSITION IN ADDITION TO THE SPECIFIC
CRITERIA LISTED

The ideal candidate for the above position will have a combination of the following:
Excellent English writing and editing skills, and fluency in Kannada language is mandatory
Strong knowledge of web-based communication, including social media
Good interpersonal and teamwork skills
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with regular travel
Strong commitment to Rights Based approach and social justice

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Remuneration: Remuneration for the position will be a consolidated monthly payment in
accordance with qualifications and experience, upto Rs. 40,000 per month for full time work of six
days per week.
Duration: The above position is for a period of two and a half years till December 2017, including a
six months probation period.
