LUDHIANA: At the time when the entire country is debating treasure hunt by the
Archaeological Survey of India, beneath a fort in Dhaundia Khera, in Uttar Pradesh's
Unnao district, following the dream of Swami Shoban Sarkar, city police has busted a six
member gang that has allegedly duped many people in the country selling them fake gold
polished ancient coins claiming these to have been dug out of historical places.
Ludhiana deputy commissioner of police Harsh Bansal informed that the six accused
who also included two ladies have been identified as Ishwar alias Rakesh, a resident of
Mange Ram park, New Delhi, Lalit Kumar, a resident of Deepak Vihar, Uttam Nagar
New Delhi, Devi from Jodhpur Rajasthan and her son Suresh Kumar, Ramesh Solanki,
from Budh vihar, Sultanpuri, New Delhi and Babli, a resident of sardar colony in Rohini,
New Delhi.
Bansal informed that all the accused who originally hail from Rajasthan are uneducated
and have been working together for last over 5 years. These accused used to pose as if
they are laborers involved in the digging work at historical sites. They used to approach
people directly, stating that while carrying out digging work they have found gold coins
and gold jewelry. They further used to tell them that they have very less time and wanted
to sell these coins and jewelry at whatever cost possible so that they can get some money
and thus used to dupe people by selling fake gold polished coins and jewelry.
On being asked as to from where the accused used to bring these fake coins, Assistant
Commissioner of Police GS Bains informed that the accused used to buy these coins and
also get them gold polished from Karol Bagh area in Delhi.

Police has recovered Urdu imprinted gold polished coins weighing 5 kilograms, 550
grams and a gold polished necklace weighing I kilogram 900 grams from the accused.
The accused have accepted before the police for having duped a lady doctor working at
an optician shop on Ferozepur road of Rs 5 lakh by selling similar fake gold polished
coins and jewelry.
These accused who were arrested on a secret information and have been booked at
Salem Tabri Police station have targeted some 25 people in Punjab duping them of Rs 25
to Rs 30 lakh by selling similar fake coins and jewelry. The accused have also targeted
innocent people in UP, Delhi, West Bengal, Uttarakhand and West Bengal as well.
