Purpose
This document covers guidelines and instructions for installing Oracle 11gR2
x32 Client and Oracle 11gR2 x64 Client.

Installation Guidelines
There are two versions of the Oracle 11gR2 Client: a 32 bit client and a 64
bit client. The following table lists which operating systems these Oracle
11gR2 clients can be installed.

Other considerations:
It is possible to install both the 11gR2 x32 and x64 Oracle clients
on Windows 7. This will give you the ability to run the Oracle x64 bit

client for applications that can use it, and you can run the Oracle x32 bit
client for applications that cannot run in x64 bit mode. For example, you
want to run XYZ application queries with the x64 bit Oracle client, and you
also require the x32 bit client to run DeskI queries. You may need
instructions from your application product owner for switching from one
Oracle client to another.

1. The installer for Oracle 11gR2 is located on the ISS web site. Launch
Internet Explorer, and go to the URL http://iss.intel.com.
2. Do a search for Oracle 11gR2.

NOTE:
The text shown above is an example, and that it will be slightly different
when installing on your system.
5. Next the Oracle 11gR2 installer command window pop up. It will display
for several moments, as shown below. Be patient.
6. Within a minute or so, the Oracle 11gR2 installer display text, as follows:

8. As shown above, press the Enter key to exit from the command
procedure.
9. To verify that Oracle 11gR2 has been installed
a. Click Start, Programs.
b. Look in the Programs list for the Oracle group. The Oracle home
name is determined by whether you have installed the x32 or x64
version of Oracle.
c. If you have installed the x32 version, the Program group name will
be Oracle_11gR2_x32_1. An example is shown below:

d. If you have installed the x64 version, the Program group name will
be Oracle_11gR2_x64_1. Within Windows 7, the x64 bit version of
Oracle 11gR2 will display as follows:

This section contains issues, workarounds, and solutions that Oracle users
may run into during or after the install of Oracle 11gR2. If you have any

Desktop Intelligence for Xi SP3 is not compatible with Oracle x64 bit drivers.
DeskI will display the following error message if you have the x64 Oracle
drivers installed, but not the x32 bit drivers.
If you are having connection problems with DeskI, make sure you have the
x32 bit version of Oracle installed. Should you have another application that
requires the x64 bit Oracle drivers, note that it is possible to have both
11gR2 x64 and x32 bit drivers installed at the same time.

Removes most files and folders under the root Oracle folder.

Launching deinstall.bat

If you are using an XP system, right click on the file deinstall.bat file, and
select Open.
The deinstall.bat file will start up as shown above. After a few minutes it will
prompt you to continue with the uninstall, as shown below.

Enter y to continue with the uninstall. The following text will be displayed in
the Windows command window.

Before removing all other Oracle 11gR2 files, you will need to reboot your
system to remove Oracle access from the remaining Oracle files. Otherwise,
you will not be able to remove the files.
After the reboot, click Start and select the Windows command prompt. Enter
the following commands:

CD \
RD /s
