IBPA DISPUTE RESOLUTION
A BENEFIT OF MEMBERSHIP

The Benefit:
IBPAs Dispute Resolution Program is designed to assist members who are in trade disputes with
printers, distributors, vendors, and others in the book-publishing industry, and who have made a
good-faith effort to resolve the dispute. The programs primary goal is to resolve problems faster,
and less expensively than a civil litigation. Its secondary goal is to educate members through
resolution of common problems.

DISCOUNTED ENTRY FEE

The Benefit:
Named in honor of Americas most cherished publisher/printer, IBPAs Benjamin Franklin
Awards recognize excellence in independent publishing. Publications, grouped by genre, are
judged on editorial and design by top practitioners in the field.
The Benjamin Franklin Awards are unique in that all entrants receive critiques with specific
advice on how to improve their publications. Awards are presented during an awards ceremony,
normally held either during BookExpo in New York City or IBPAs annual Publishing University
conference.

The Benefit:
The Benjamin Franklin Digital Awards honor achievement in electronic book publishing by
individuals and organizations of all sizes, including publishers, developers , designers,
manufacturers, institutions, and technology leaders.
The Benjamin Franklin Digital Awards are administered by the IBPA, with help from nearly 50
book publishing professionals representing all segments of the book industry.

The Benefit:
IBPA members can market their titles to librarians, reviewers, and booksellers through the mail
via cooperative book catalogs, both print and digital. Each option provides an effective,
reasonably priced sales tool.
About IBPAs Cooperative Book Catalogs:
The following opportunities are available:
Library Market E-Blasts Members present their titles alongside only 14 others in a special eblast to 5,000 qualified collection development librarians. Three options: Public Library, K-12
Library, or College Library.

Books for Review Catalog Members add information about their title (cover image, short
description, contact, and ordering information) to a four-color catalog. The catalog is mailed
to newspaper, magazine, and media book reviewers throughout the U.S.

Bookstore Catalog Members add information about their title (cover image, short
description, contact and ordering information) to a four-color catalog. The catalog is mailed

Bundle Catalog Members add information about their title (cover image, short description,
contact, and ordering information) to both the Books for Review AND Bookstore Catalogs.

value). No title limit applies.

INGRAM MARKETING PROGRAM


DISCOUNTED LISTING IN THE INDEPENDENT VOICE & ADVANCE MAGAZINE

The Benefit:
Ingram offers two distinct cooperative book catalog opportunities especially for IBPA members:
title listing in The Independent Voice and title listing in Advance. Your title must already be listed
with Ingram and in ipage (www.ingramcontent.com/pages/ipage.aspx) in order to participate in
this program.
About The Independent Voice:
The Independent Voice catalog offers the best in independent publishing. IBPA members are
invited to advertise their book(s) in this e-catalog, which is distributed bi-monthly to Ingrams
database of 28,000 customers: 10,000 book retailers, 14,000 librarians, and 4,000 international
accounts.
The 4-color e-catalog features a front cover image of each title, along with all the necessary
information buyers need to make their purchasing decisions. In addition, it includes a BUY NOW
button which connects directly to Ingrams ordering system. Cost is $300 per title. No title limit
applies.
Deadlines: Deadlines are approximately 30 days in advance of the mailing. For example, the
deadline for the March/April mailing would be February 1.
Fees: $300 per title, per program. At least a 3-time run per title is recommended. This
program runs 6 times per year.

About Advance:
IBPA members are invited to advertise their book(s) in Advance, Ingrams comprehensive title
catalog that reaches 11,800 domestic customers in print and 3,000 international customers in
PDF. Advance is the industry standard in terms of new and bestselling title information. Six titles
will be listed per page in a beautiful 4-color display. Cost is $350 per title. No title limit applies.
Deadlines: Deadlines are approximately 90 days in advance of publication. For example, the
deadline for the June issue is March 1st. The June issue mails to customers in late April.
Fees: $350 per title, per program. At least a 3-time run per title is recommended. This
program runs 12 times per year.

Titles are listed in the database and are Backorder Only until demand is established.
PREMIUM PROGRAM $350*
Same as above, plus:
Advertising for paid title(s)* in one of Baker & Taylors nationally circulated catalogs.
A one-time super annotation featuring the book description and cover image will appear in one
of B&Ts catalogs. A minimum inventory purchase is required upon acceptance. $350 is for one
advertised title and includes a one-time, non-refundable set up fee. B&T will accept up to four
additional titles if submitted at time of enrollment. The cost is $200 per additional title. Titles
must be no more than one (1) year past publication date to be considered.
PREMIUM PLUS PROGRAM $450*
Same as both programs above, plus:
One year subscription to Publisher Alley, an online tool for in-depth analysis of book sales
through Baker & Taylor which includes daily sales, demand, and inventory updates of title(s).

PARTNERS PUBLISHERS GROUP


62% DISCOUNT FOR ONE YEAR

The Benefit:
Partners Publishers Group (PPG) will
reduce the standard 65% discount
off retail to 62% for a period of one
year from the date an IBPA member signs a distribution agreement. At the end of the first year,
the member will have the mutual option to continue under PPGs standard terms.
About PPG:
In business since 1997, PPG provides broad distribution into the wholesale and retail trade with
Ingram, Baker & Taylor, American West Books, independent bookstores and chains such as
Barnes & Noble, B&N.com, and Amazon.com.
PPG will distribute single title publishers but reserves the right to reject publishers whose
production standards, formats, and genre categories are not an effective fit.

The form has several blanks for various key terms (including advance, royalty rate, first printing,
term, and territory) that will need to be negotiated by the parties, agreed upon, and filled in
appropriately BEFORE signing.
All blanks must be filled in or crossed out.
Although many of the terms and conditions in the sample contract are fairly standard, every
contract is subject to negotiation. In any case, you should satisfy yourself that the contract is
suitable for your purposes before using it. Please be aware that IBPA is not in a position to offer

About Domestic Book Trade Shows:


The focus of domestic book trade shows is to provide title visibility to buyers and to solicit orders.
In addition to onsite book display, those members who meet the submission deadline will be
included in IBPAs onsite book catalog, which will include book title, ISBN, price,
distributors/wholesalers, company name, and website. This information will also be listed on the
IBPA website for one year.
During BookExpo America some orders may be written for specific titles. At the American Library
Association (ALA) shows, orders are rarely written since librarians must complete purchase orders
unavailable to them at the show. Most buyers at these trade shows prefer ordering from their
normal channels of distribution.
Its important to note, then, that although IBPA will take orders for titles, the major focus of
domestic book trade shows is to:

Present information for future ordering by booksellers or librarians.


Talk with booksellers, librarians, and other professionals who stop by the IBPA booth.
Gather names and addresses for participating members use.
Discuss foreign rights with attending foreign publishers.

At the completion of each domestic book trade show, a report is sent to member participants.
Best case results: Orders and/or other types of sales.
Average results: Visibility and ordering information distributed to potential buyers.
Worst case results: Exposure to the market.
About International Book Trade Shows:
The focus of the international book trade shows is to generate interest in foreign rights sales.

ABAS ADVANCE ACCESS PROGRAM
50% DISCOUNT

The Benefit:
IBPA members receive a 50% discount off the American Bookseller Associations
(ABAs) Advance Access Program.
About the Advance Access Program:
Advance Access is a twice-monthly email sent by ABA to member bookstores containing offers to
receive galleys, reading copies, or finished books for review. After receiving the title from a
publisher, a store can decide whether to carry it. They could also decide to nominate the title for
the Indie Next List. ABA makes no promises, but the Advance Access Program has proved to be a
very effective way to get the word out about titles.
Fees:
Due to the volume of offers and the staff time it takes to process and aggregate them, ABA
charges $150 per title. IBPA members pay only $75 a savings of 50%.

should send a check for $75, payable to American Booksellers Association, to:

The Benefit:
Through the NetGalley Book Review Program, IBPA members can
share galleys electronically and securely with 175,000+ reviewers, media professionals,

To participate in this program, all you have to do is provide your digital files to IBPA. This is
especially helpful and convenient if you have neither the time nor the inclination to deal with the
technological aspects of adding your own title to NetGalley. IBPA members save the expense of

Six-Month Title Listing:
Efficient, effective, and affordable electronic galley distribution.
Galleys will be available to all NetGalley readers for 6 months.
IBPA will:
o Process your title set-up
o Approve requests to view your galley
o Provide you a widget you can use to invite your contacts to view your galley online
o Provide reports related to galley downloads when requested
When your title page is added it will be featured in NetGalleys recently added titles
section, in addition to being listed under IBPAs members titles.
All titles listed on NetGalley via IBPA are automatically approved for all readers, this is found
on the site under READ NOW. This section is one of the NetGalleys most popular because the
titles can be immediately accessed without waiting for manual approval from the publisher or
author.
You will receive a widget that leads directly to your galley in the NetGalley system. The
widget is a hyperlink that allows the recipient quick access to the galley. The widget can be
included in all communications developed to announce that your title is available for
electronic review on NetGalley.
You can register on NetGalley as a reader to view your title page, but your access as a
publisher is through the IBPA office.
Six-Month Title Listing, Plus IBPA Round-Up Email:

1. Your title will be featured in one dedicated IBPA-branded mailing, targeted to NetGalley
