The Parrot is a common and favorite bird.

It is found in all the


warm countries of the world. It is caught in trapes or in its nests
and kept as a pet.
There are various kinds of Parrots. The African are grey.
Indian Parrots are often greenish yellow in colour. But hilly parrots
are often green. Their colour is like that of vegetation and so they
remain hidden beautiful. It has a long round tail. It has a sharp
claws and fleshy tongue.

Tea is now a day a common drink in India. It is produced with the


leaf of a plant. It is an evergreen wild plant and in plantations it is
grown to a height of not more than 10 feet.
The plant requires hot and moist climate. It grows well in
light soil. The rainfall must be well distributed all through the
year, but the water should not be collected at the roots. So, a
slopy nature of the ground is suitable for the cultivation of tea. It
is chiefly grown on the hill slopes of India, China and Japan. It was
first introduced in China, so it is called chai in India.

The camel is very ugly but useful animal. It lives in dry


countries. It is called the Ship of the desert because riding on
these animal travelers can pass through a desert.
It is a tall animal, eight or ten feet high. It has a long and
small head. Its feet are not cloven but each foot has two largepadded toes. When the camel walks, the toes spread out and do
not sink in the sand. Its body is covered with ash-coloured hair. Its
upper lip is large and divided. The Camel carry heavy intelligent
and hardworking animal. It can carry heavy loads. It lives upto the
age of 40 or 50 years.

Railway trains are now common in every civilized country. Before


the invention of the steam engine people used to go from one
place to another by carts or carriage or on horse-back. It took
much time to cover even a short distance.
The railway train consists of a number of carriages drawn by
an engine. Carriages are joined together in a line and they run on
two iron rails running parallel to each other. The train is a safe
and comfortable means of journey. It helps in trade and business.
It carries food and takes soldiers to help in war.

The snake is a creeper of reptiles or crawling animals. It is


generally found in warm countries. It is the most dangerious of all
reptiles, because it has venomous many varieties of snakes.
There are many varieties in Africa and America.

The snake is like a creeper. It has no legs. It has large


backbone which extends which extends from the neck to the end
of the tail. It is so formed that it can bend or coil as it likes. Its
body is covered with scales and with their help the snake can
move rapidly on its breast. Some snakes have hoods which they
can spread when angry. The snake has two sets of teeth and its
tongue is forked. There are two venomous teeth in the upper jaw.
Behind these, are two poision bags. It has no eyelids.
There are many kinds of snakes. They are of various lengths.
The cobra and the krait of India are very dangerous. There are
marks of horse-shoe on the hood of the cobra. There are many
kinds of water snakes also.
The snake lives in holes of rates etc. It cannot dig holes in
the ground. It feeds on frogs, birds, eggs, fish and insects. It can
live without food for a long time, sometimes months. When
without angry, it runs at its victim with the head erect and hood

expanded. It makes a hissing sound when teased. When it bites,


the poison flows from the poision bag into the fangs and then into
the wound. The poision spreads over the body and the victim
dies.
