Andover couple's kindness to help homeless victim of

thieves

WHEN a homeless man had his one and only bag of possessions stolen by heartless
yobs in Andover, he thought he would be spending the night cold and hungry.
But one kind-hearted young couple decided to go the extra mile, rushing to his aid and
providing him with warm clothing, sleeping equipment and a freshly cooked Dominos
pizza.
The good 1 Samaritan act took place on Saturday night after pregnant carer Charlene
Dance and her fianc Daniel Evans, who live in Knoll Court, had ordered a weekend
takeaway treat.
As the couple went to collect their pizza, Mr Evans, who works at Andover Nursing
Home, noticed a woman assisting a man who appeared to have been mugged.
The 24-year-old ran over to see what had happened and was told that two youngsters
had stolen the homeless mans bag from outside Mecca Bingo and were running away
towards Weyhill Road.
Although unable to catch the thieves, the caring couple, who are expecting their first
child in June, instead offered the man their recently-delivered pizza.
Mr Evans said: I asked the man what had happened and he pointed to the two youths
running away with his bag.
I felt really bad because he was blaming himself for putting his bag down and he said it
had all of his belongings in it, so he had nothing else.

I wanted2 to chase after them but I was in my slippers at the time so I went back in and
told Charlene and we decided to take him one of the pizzas.
However their generosity did not stop there. Much to the shock of the man, the couple
also offered to provide him with 100 worth of warm clothing and a spare sleeping bag.
Miss Dance, 25, who works in the same care home as her fianc, said: He was shocked
but really grateful. He kept saying he
would give them back, but we told him
not to worry.
He was really good about it though.
We whinge about all the small things in
life but he goes through things like this
every day and still remains positive.

POLICE have been forced to close a road after a blaze broke out from a thatched
cottage this afternoon.
Emergency services have closed both lanes of the B3048 between the A303 and
Longparish after they received a call about a thatch fire in the Middleway.
It is not yet clear when the road will re-open but Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service are
advising that drivers avoid the area.

Andover fire station records hundreds of false alarm

calls.First published 11:20 Wednesday 1 April 2015 in News
by Mike Sims, Head of Editorial
MORE than 650 false alarm calls were made to Andover fire station over the last three
years, the Advertiser can reveal.
The majority were made with good intent or were due to automated alarms going off,
though 13 were deemed to be malicious.
Between April 2011 and March 2014, the Andover area recorded 657 false alarms, 74
per cent of which were due to alarms automatically sounding despite there being no fire.
Dad-of-three Martin Hanchant lost his family home in Longparish in February due to a
devastating blaze and urged people not to make false calls to the service.
The electrician said: No matter what people think of the emergency services in general,
that is exactly what they are, emergency services.
They save lives and so much more. People who waste their time are the biggest
timewasters of all.
The 657 false alarms were made in the Andover station ground area, which the fire
service said referred to the geographical area which Andover fire station covers,
including Wherwell, Weyhill and Ibthorpe.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: We respond to more than
3,500 false fire alarms each year.
These are mostly made up of 999 calls made with good intent and call-outs where the
alarm systems have activated when there is no real fire.
The service is working hard to reduce false fire alarm callouts and is working with the
business community to achieve this.
A very small percentage of the false fire alarm calls we receive are of a malicious
nature. False alarm calls divert us away from our primary role of preventing fires and
attending real emergencies.
